I don’t have much need for actual snow boots here in Portland (though the rumor is this year perhaps we will!,) but I have a definite need for good, warm sneaker boots. I love that this has become more of a trend over the last few years.
I had some Kinetic Caribou boots previously (that I discovered in a former search like this) but wound up finding the colorway I chose to be less versatile with my wardrobe. (It was this shoe if you’re interested in Camel Brown.) I’m still not sure what it was about them, I just didn’t wear them a ton. They were super-comfy though!
Comfy. Warm. Cute. A Weather-Resistant Winter Boots Try-On Sesh
Anywho, here I am again hoping to find a cozy, comfy weather-resistant pair of boots to take those neighborhood walks in, as well as run errands in, etc., (A few of these boots may work with our code at Backcountry for 15% off! Use THEMOMEDIT)
This is my current shoe addiction. I just keep trying them all, and spoiler alert, so far the best are Sorel (with a last-minute addition of an awesome Merrell boot!) It’s not really a surprise, but there are some other adorable options, too, so let’s get to it!
Sorel Explorer Joan – Waterproof
at Amazon | at Zappos (this color) | at Backcountry (all the colors!)
These are so so cushiony and warm-with-felt-lining that I die. I wound up keeping this option because they’re just so toasty. I love this color combo best (khaki II,) but these come in a TON of options! True to size here, but perhaps go up by half if you plan to wear thick socks. I won’t need to here, and the felt lining keeps them warmer than most, but if you’re somewhere really cold, probably size up.

Merrell Alpine Tall Polar Waterproof Boot
at Merrell (white only) | at Zappos | at Dillards
These are a new favorite of mine that arrived after the rest. SO comfy, warm and awesome. They work great with my favorite black jeans here, as well as leggings. LOVE! True to size. I have an outfit post coming soon, but here’s a little preview!

Chaco Borealis Ledge
Allbirds lovers, I think you’ll adore these! They’re like Allbirds but with a wedge! These are super-comfy and as a longtime Chaco sandal fan, I’m excited that they’re delving into the world of sneakers and boots. Wool and suede upper with more of a wedge than the Sorel Explorer Joan above.
Teva Highside 84 Mid (In 2 Colors!)
at Nordstrom | at Zappos (addt’l colorway)
I loooooove the retro vibe of these…so much I tried them in two colors. These are so cool. I think I may revisit in the late winter/early spring as they seem better suited for spring and fall, but gosh, so good. They run true to size and have a nice wide toe box area, but they are less cushiony than all the other boots I tried.

Sorel Kinetic Conquest
Ok, if I didn’t already have some Danner boots, I’d have kept these. So good. Less hiking boot than the Danner though, and definitely a comfy sneaker boot. I am actually trying out the black version because they’re so good. Super-cushiony and the quality you’d expect from Sorel. True to size, and somehow the laces are amazing. They are cute and kinda grippy. Rad. Sold out alllmost everywhere, but I’ve linked to two places that have them in stock below!

UGG Highland Suede Hi Heritage
I truly wanted to keep so many of these. I adore these, but thought they might not be quite as versatile. They are so rad though, aren’t they? They’re like a hybrid between UGG slippers and high tops.

Sorel Lexie Wedge
At first, I thought I’d keep these. The deep green color that reads almost black with the pale peach laces is just a gorgeous combo. I’ve just realized I’m kinda over the wedge boot though…just for myself. But as far as flattering and well-made and seriously comfortable especially for the height, you can’t go wrong with these or any Sorel wedge.

You should check out the Gore-Tex Chucks! I posted about them on the MomEdit Facebook page (on Black Friday they were 50% off].
Ah will def check those out! Thank you!
I recently bought the Sorel Joan boots after a TME post on them and I am ~OBSESSED~! I call them my ‘snoots’ because they are half sneaker, half boot, and because I am obviously really cool. I convinced my mom to buy a pair too! LOVE.
Nice!! Sorel just does such a fab job!
Something about Chaco sandals don’t work for me so I wonder if the footbed is similar in their boot?
Also I have the Sorel Joan and look the look and feel but they don’t keep my feet warm enough (Midwest). Maybe I needed to size up and put on a thicker sock?
Anyways they are all so cute and very timely. Thanks Laura!
THanks so much! This was a fun post. Ah yeah I think perhaps a size up and nice thick wool socks would do the trick! The Chaco boots are much different and more sneaker like than the sandals, if that helps. The sandals are so inflexible on the soles, but these boots are more flexible and cushioned, for sure!
So nice to see C
amper and good job coordinating your outfit to your dog. Here is a VERY serious question that I need the TME team to answer: What footwear does one wear in the winter with all the great joggers I bought in the fall? My Seattle ankles are cold and my feet want to stay dry.
Haha thanks, Lois! I know you love Camper! Hmm. Good question! I think some of these could work great with joggers if you coordinate the color of the jogger to the shoe ie. light jogger with a lighter boot, dark jogger with a darker.
Hi! Just wanted to tell you I really appreciate your posts. Your reviews are relevant, consistent, thorough and for the most part pretty applicable to my personal style/lifestyle (maybe it’s a West Coast thing…). Plus, you regularly post 🙂 Perhaps you might consider starting your own blog….. just saying! Thanks and keep up the great work!
What a lovely comment, thanks so much! I do have my own site, http://www.laurajansenstyle.com but I fear I don’t post there as regularly as I do here. Haha. Lots of irons in the fire. I’m so glad the posts are helpful. That’s always my goal!
I’m going to second this request. I live in SoCal, so no snow and not a lot of rain, but I am ALWAYS cold. What shoes do I wear with my cute work from home joggers??? Want to be warm and cute. I find myself just reaching for my good old Uggs.
