Supporting small businesses has become increasingly more and more important to us here at TME — and especially now during a pandemic when small shops are really struggling. So if you are trying to shop small this holiday season, or if you are just looking for wildly unique gifts, this post is for you.
30+ Small Businesses With Really Great Style
(Think: Sustainable, Local, Black-Owned and/or Woman-Owned)
We have a (rapidly growing) list of small businesses that we’ve fallen in love with, and we reached out to a handful of them to see what their plans are for Small Business Saturday. Below is a list of sales for Black Friday Weekend/Cyber Week, along with a pick that we’re eyeing up from each brand. BONUS: many of these are sustainable and/or Black-owned.

1. ABLE
25% off sitewide with code FESTIVE25
This convertible backpack looks so sturdy & sleek. When you really can’t decide if you want a tote or a backpack, you get both! Has some AMAZING reviews and comes in two really good neutrals.
2. Alexandra Ferguson (Etsy Shop)
Up to 20% off
This pillow is such a good gift idea for someone who’s missing home a little bit more this year. A custom zip code pillow is genius and simply adorable. You can pick your base material color as well as numbers color, but I love this ivory & orange variation.
3. Amour Vert
25% off sitewide
Man, these lounge pants are calling my name. There’s just something about ribbed, wide-leg, cozy pants that appeals to me so much. Oh, and especially when the words “Cloud Rib” are in the description. Loving this Dove color, too.
4. Briogeo (Black-Owned)
20% sitewide with code HOLIDAY
This brand seriously rocks the haircare game. They have some of the best consciously made products with some really good scents & cute packaging. This kit is so well-priced for the volume of the two products that you get — I’ve tried both and can say they truly do wonders. 20% off their site is kiiiinda like a dream…
5. Boll & Branch
25% off orders of $150+
This cable knit hat & scarf set would be perfect for that someone who’s a little hard to buy for (or someone you don’t know that well but want to gift this holiday season). It’s made from 100% organic cotton and comes in two pretty staple colors to match any outerwear/outfit.
6. Bookshop.org
Free shipping all weekend
This book is both hilarious and highly inspirational. I can’t think of one person I wouldn’t gift it to (well, over the age of like 15).
7. ShopBuru
Free shipping over $101
Oooo…Golden Goose look-a-likes for under $100? Sign me up.
8. Etsy
Up to 60% off participating sellers 11/23 – 12/02. View holiday sales 20% off or more here.
These wooden trees are SO COOL. I love little handmade decor like this — it’s so gorgeous and rustic. Such a neat little way to make your own winter wonderland (maybe with some fake snow and twinkle lights) on a mantle or table.
9. Grant BLVD
There will be an ongoing Friday sale (today!) that aligns with Grant BLVD‘s efforts to create and share space for other Black makers, creators and small businesses. They will host a different vendor in their storefront every Friday starting on 11/20 and ending on 12/25, from 4pm-7pm for #shopblackfridays. During these Fridays, store/website visitors will receive 20% off using the code SHOPBLACKFRIDAYS.
Grant BLVD has such a good background story here that I think all should read. This Philadelphia-based apparel company is committed to sustainable sourcing, and is designed & made in-house. Their fashion collections are seriously SO cool. I’m dying over these contrast leg joggers.
10. Getz’s
Free economy shipping | 25% off select North Face, Columbia, Darn Tough Socks, Mountain Hardware, Arc’Teryx until 12/03 | 15% off all Carhartt boots until 11/30 | Get $20 in Carhartt bucks when you spend $100 in Carhartt gear
Carhartt makes some REALLY good hats & beanies for the whole fam. I’m loving this mint green pom pom beanie.
11. Kiya Tomlin (Black-Owned)
15% off site wide | For Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, you’ll receive a free infinity scarf with a purchase of $150 or more. After Friday, it will be a free infinity scarf with a purchase of $250 or more until Christmas.
This sweatshirt puts all the other pullovers that I have in my closet to shame. It’s like a really stylish sweatshirt that you can dress up super easily. Kiya Tomlin clothing is handmade in the US with environmentally friendly fabrics (like bamboo — uhh, so cool). I love what they do with their asymmetrical styles, like these dresses. They’re so unique.
12. Mantra Mugs
20% off on Black Friday & 12/26
Yeah, I love this mug. The phrase is perfect. They have soooo many funny, sarcastic, cute sayings to choose from. You can also customize your own with a little inside joke or something uniquely you.
13. Moop
15% off everything with code WHIPPEDDREAMS
Oh dang, this shop is so neat. I love the quirkiness and charm of the bags & home decor. You can’t go wrong with a cute graphic tote, in my opinion. Especially if it’s this giant & gorgeously-rustic one.
14. NAADAM
40% off with code BLACKFRI40 11/23-11/29 online & in-store (some exclusions apply)
Naadam is nailing the cashmere game. They have such great quality pieces for both women & men, and even a $75 cashmere sweater. Yup. Shana did a review of the best of their cashmere (including the $75 one) here. I really love this space-dyed crewneck one.
15. NINOBrand
Receive a gift code equal to your ENTIRE purchase
I seriously love this tee. It’s so simple yet fun (and subtly optimistic). I love the black base with the little bits of colors. This unisex tee is made from organic cotton that’s produced without synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or any other agricultural chemicals.
16. NOOWORKS
Free domestic shipping all weekend
This jumpsuit is.. uh…. amazing. You may have seen Laura rave about nooworks on her IG… She’s fully addicted to their prints (done by different artists each time) and their amazing jumpsuits. Laura says; “The World Domination suit and the Magic Suit are my favs! LOVE love love this company!”.
17. PrintFresh
25% off sitewide with code CYBER
I can’t say enough good things about these pajamas. They’re sturdy, soft, cozy, and come in some of the prettiest prints you’ll ever see. The fabric is hand-screenprinted by artisans in India.
18. Queen City Running Co.
Free shipping over $25
I’ve heard lots of good things about Saucony running sneaks. If you’re in the market — take a look here for some really good pairs. Loving this coral color.
19. Social Threads
Black Friday – the first 400 orders will receive 40% off | Small Business Saturday – 15% off gift cards | Cyber Monday – buy more save more offer | Cyber Week – 25% off select gifts
Social Threads has a really good holiday gift guide on their site at the moment. I’m eyeing up allll of the cozy gifts like this mocha ribbed hoodie set and — oh my god — this fleece one, too. Shana is a big fan of their vegan leather messenger bag that you can mix-match straps with. A bag and a bunch of straps to choose from would make SUCH a cute gift.
20. Tender Loving Empire
Free shipping on orders placed 11/26-11/30 with code SMALLBIZHOLIDAY
This box would be such a fun (and delicious) gift to receive. “One of my very favorite shops in Portland is now offering custom gift boxes! They work with artists and craftspeople and curate the best gifts, food items and music to give. You can build your own or choose from their gift box items, for shipping nationwide or local Portland pickup. Love!!” – Laura
21. Tesoro Design
20% off of found vintage | 10% off site wide on Small Business Saturday
Goodness gracious, I’ve been drooling over this bag for almost a year now. The color is seriously beautiful and I looooove how you can customize the color of your chain strap. As a lover of color, this really excites me. All of the leather bags and accessories on the site are handmade by owner & designer, Brittany Reed. Her creations are simply GORGEOUS. She recently released a Mom Collection with an insane leather diaper bag and a clutch that clips onto strollers. Amazing.
22. Tracey’s Faceys (Black-Owned)
Black Friday – 30% off the entire site with code BLACKFRIDAY
Ooooo this denim mask is calling my name — it looks like it’d go with pretty much anything. Every Tracey’s Faceys mask is handmade, double-lined with breathable cotton cloth (with an insert pocket for a filter or tissue) and a bendable metal wire over the nose for that contoured, secure fit. They come in a bunch of fabrics and designs, like this awesome disco ball one.
23. Valerie Madison (Black-Owned)
20% off on Black Friday
These earrings are GORG. I love that they have a stud base instead of being a hoop on top — it makes them a little bit more fun and unique, in my opinion. They’re hand-forged and come in 14K yellow gold, 14K white gold, and 14K rose gold. Go ahead, treat somebody that you love.
24. YOWIE (Black-Owned)
They will be donating a portion of sales to local organizations for the BF/CM weekend, and will be offering a free sticker sheet for all orders over $50, plus a free 6-pack of our seltzer for all orders over $150.
I love little trinket dishes like this pretty light blue one. The shape is super unique and kinda retro, which I love. Yowie has a cool collection of a bunch of different vases, glasses, books, trinkets, and oh, even strawberry lemongrass jam.
25. Yubi Beauty (Black-Owned)
Up to 50% off sitewide
Oooo this brush looks SO cool. Such an interesting shape & head for a makeup brush, but I’m seriously intrigued. It has 200+ five-star reviews and — well — it’s called the Miracle Brush for a reason, I assume. It would be an awesome gift for that beauty lover friend that we all have.
Support More Small Businesses We Love
Here are a few more of our fave local Small Businesses with some really good gift ideas — they’re just not on sale at the moment (but are totally worth the prices).
26. Shop Baleen
Laura is loving this double disk ring from Shop Baleen; a sustainable, affordable jewelry company right in Seattle.
27. Eli & Barry
How good are these pants? They’re so versatile & classy with that tapered leg & high waist AND they’re made from hemp & organic denim — which is seriously awesome. (Oh and yup, that’s our gorgeous Kat killing it as a model…) Kat says they’re a great, sustainable, slow-fashion brand that creates timeless pieces with high-quality materials. Love.
28. Lisa Congdon
Laura’s friend Lisa is a Portland-based fine artist, illustrator and author. Her work is bold, happy and gorgeous. She has a huge array of items to choose from and sooo many cute & beautiful great gift items.
29. MeritMade
These earrings are handcrafted in a metalsmithing workshop. That’s… so cool. “Each MeritMade Essentials earring is individually soldered, cut, sawn, filed, sanded, and polished in our Kansas City studio from recycled sterling silver wire and sheet. These are meant to be worn and loved everyday.” Ok, I love this brand.
30. Naomi Alessandra
This print is SO cool. “I am smitten with just about everything produced by Naomi Alessandra — the energy and emotion in her work is undeniable. Some of my very favorite pieces of hers are available as prints (we have the original Queen of Entanglements, pictured, in our bedroom) and I’m tempted to fill my whole home with her eerie, whimsical creations.” – Em
31. STUMP
sale
This plant + pot combo is my fave of the lot. “My favorite boutique plant store of all time! They started in Columbus, OH and now have expanded to Cleveland and Philly too! Most of the plants that I have and love I bought at STUMP. They are experts in helping you find ways for your plants to thrive!” – Kat
32. Sweet55
“Sweet 55 is an artisanal chocolate shop just down the road from our house (read: dangerously walkable!) that makes some of the most luxurious, delicious chocolate I’ve ever had, with super thoughtful flavor combinations and gorgeous gifting details. (The chocolatier, Ursula, sources the perfect red ribbon from France. She’s detail-oriented, to say the least). My favorite is the California Republic — a dark chocolate truffle with olive oil, meyer lemon and rosemary — but everything is totally craveable. This Dark Matter assortment is the perfect gift or personal indulgence.” – Em
Happy shopping (small)!
Xo, Abby
Pinners, this one’s for you…

Baleen is literally around the corner from me (it’s situated in a residential neighborhood here in Seattle) and I’m glad to see them featured here – they make truly great stuff! Can’t wait to stop by to pick up my own holiday gifts.
Ah so nice! I can’t wait to get up to Seattle hopefully next year and check them out in person. Such lovely pieces!
