Thank you to Backcountry & ShopStyle for sponsoring this post.
The weather has been unseasonably warm here this year and thank GOD because we’re all going a little stir-crazy. We had a TON of snow last year at this time, but this year we can actually sit around a campfire (that’s not buried under all the snow) without freezing. Which is a great thing because my sister-in-law (one of my besties, for sure) recently had a birthday and it was so nice to be able to actually celebrate with her after a year of celebrating holidays and birthday parties over Zoom.
We still wanted to make it a physically distant thing, though, so I booked a cabin at Rippling River Resort (a campground not five miles from our house that has a huge campfire area and multiple places to sit and visit in a socially distant-friendly way) and invited her over for drinks around the fire.
It was perfect.
What To Wear For Campfire Hangs With Your Bestie

I hate having to overthink packing when we’re doing a staycation so close to our house, so I packed some comfy cozy layers to wear by the fire and basically just wore them the whole time: my favorite leggings of all-time, these crazy warm and water-resistant Campfire Booties, a comfy hoodie and this cozy hat (for warmth and to hide my bed-head hair…pretty much a must for any cabin situation). My sister-in-law wore almost exactly the same thing (comfy leggings, hoodie and a hat), but with her favorite Blundstone boots. We were both warm enough by the fire–and I was comfy enough that I slept in the exact same outfit.

These Campfire Booties are SO comfy and warm, you guys! I wore them outside in the snow (thanks to the water-resistant material) and just pulled the tops tighter when I wanted more warmth and looser when I didn’t. I even wore them with just the hoodie over my swimsuit on the walk to the outdoor hot tub. They’re my new favorite indoor/outdoor slippers, and I know that I’ll be wearing them year-round around our campfires…even in the summer. They’ll keep my always-cold feet warm…and have I mentioned how comfy they are?
Campfire Essential: Rumpl Blankets
Aside from what we wore, it’s this blanket that was the MVP of the trip. Rumpl has a ton to choose from, and I literally can’t explain how much I love these blankets. I used mine every day at the campground (both in and out of our cabin) and have used it every day since while at home (it’s great for movie-watching/snuggling with the kiddos!). It’s the perfect lightweight-but-warm travel blanket that will pretty much go everywhere with me from now on.
I love the little travel bag it comes in…one that’s actually easy to fold it back into. There’s also a clip on the sides that can fasten it around your shoulders like a cape…and when I realized that (along with how warm it was), I basically decided I never need a winter coat again. OK, that might be pushing it, but this blanket is SO GOOD, you guys. I did spill a bit on it, but the water-repellant finish made it super easy to just swipe off. The “NanoLoft” fill mimics down but without the actual feathers…so it continues to trap warmth even if it does get wet. (And yes I totally bought the hat to match!)

sweatshirt: Burton Oak Long Pullover Hoodie (m) — I love the length of this hoodie…it makes it perfect to pair with leggings, but I’m sure I’ll be wearing it as a cover up at camp this summer. (It also comes in a pretty turquoise color and both colors are on sale!)
leggings: Free People FP Movement Kyoto Legging (m) — Hands-down my all-time favorite leggings/sweats, these are the only pair of leggings that I feel 100% confident in even if I’m wearing a shirt that doesn’t cover my bum. I love the high rise and they’re ridiculously comfortable. The best sweats ever.
hat: Coal Headwear Kate Pom Beanie — Lots of hats look silly on me, but this one had the perfect fit, and I love the color (also in grey or blue and all are on sale!). It’s not too tight and isn’t itchy at all…great way to cover bad hair days!
boots: Baffin Campfire Bootie — 30% off! I’m SO glad I found these boots. They’re perfect indoor/outdoor slipper-boots and I know I’ll get a ton of use out of them even in the summertime when we’re sitting around the campfire. They’re water-resistant and the sole isn’t slippery. LOVE.
blanket: Rumpl Nanoloft Fade 1-Person Blanket — I can’t explain how much I love this blanket. Shana got one for Christmas and loved it so much I thought I’d try it…I’m literally using it every day, now. Outside, inside, on my lap, around my shoulders…this is a new favorite that will get TONS of use.
drink: YETI Rambler 30oz Tumbler — Another thing I use daily. I keep it full next to my bed at night and fill it in the morning to get more water in during the day. The ice takes forever to melt and I’ve also used it for wine…ahhhmazing.
On Anne
sweatshirt: Burton Oak Pullover Hoodie (s) — This one comes in four different colors, but Anne loves her turquoise! (I’m loving that olive color myself…and they’re all on sale!)
leggings: Free People FP Movement Kyoto Leggings (m) — I told Anne how awesome these were and she bought some for herself. Not surprisingly, she loves them as much as I do.
hat: Mammut Sally Beanie — This color is sold out, but I’m loving the “evening sand” color for spring…and it’s on sale for 35% off!
boots: Blundstone Boots — Anne loves these boots…as do the 55 people who’ve reviewed them. They’re high-quality, well-made and can be worn in snow, rain, dirt…and still look and feel great. Many of the reviews say “favorite boots ever!”
drink: YETI Rambler 30oz Tumbler — Seriously, if you haven’t tried a Yeti, you’re missing out. (And there’s a ton of colors to choose from!)

(I have a feeling we’ll be back soon for another blanket!) And Abby, thank you so much for your awesome photography skills–always such a pleasure to work with you!
Love that the blanket has that little toggle- awesome!! Looks like a lovely outing.
I absolutely love my Rumpl blanket – it was my Mother’s Day gift last year, and the rest of the family has jumped on the bandwagon now too!
I love that you can wear the blanket as a cape!
My husband, dog, and I spent a night at Rippling River on our way through the UP last September and loved it! Only regretted not being able to stay longer and enjoy all the amenities. It’s a gorgeous property and I loved the little cabin we stayed in.
