For anyone thinking about trying MOTHER denim (or if you already love MOTHER jeans and are itching to try a new style), I’ve put my MOTHER “habit” to use in creating The Ultimate Guide To MOTHER Denim. You can click on each of the links below to go directly to the section you’re most interested in. But first…let me answer a question for you.
Are MOTHER Jeans Worth It?
MOTHER jeans are expensive. I wish they weren’t. But they are. However, for my body type and preference for stretchy really soft comfortable denim, that looks good on the butt and doesn’t stretch out too much, MOTHER is hands-down my favorite brand of jeans and worth every penny.
After I tried my first pair years ago (MOTHER The Weekender Fray), there have been other denim brands I’ve liked here and there, but MOTHER denim still wins when it comes to what I actually wear on a daily basis. The real test for me is this: whether I could own just one pair of MOTHER jeans or four pairs of another brand. Answer: I would absolutely choose MOTHER every time. They get worn WAY more than the other denim brands in my closet.
And the best part? Many of my most-loved MOTHER styles tend to come back year after year — the brand tends to offer updated washes and maybe some tweaks to distressing. So, since this post has JUST been updated for 2022, keep scrolling for my most-recent thoughts and favorites…
1. My 3 Fave Pairs Of MOTHER Jeans
For those of you in a hurry, my three most-worn pairs of MOTHER jeans right now are: MOTHER The Weekender Flares | MOTHER The Tomcat Rollers | MOTHER The Insiders. Now that it’s been awhile since my original post, I’m adding MOTHER The Tomcats (regular) and the Tomcat Flared Leg Jeans too. Lots of other washes (and more sizing of each) are included in the “Selfie Section” if you keep scrolling.
2. MOTHER Denim Jeans Comparison With Measurements
As a little visual guide, we drew up a chart comparing the differences between all the jean styles in my try-on session. Most of them are cropped, but there are some full-length pairs in there, and even a pair of denim shorts (for Shana.)
3. Where To Buy MOTHER Jeans Online At A Discount
If MOTHER jeans are not in your budget, but you’d really like to try a pair, here are some suggestions:
Check Out Sales Posted On Social Media: We post on TME’s social media ANY time we find current styles of MOTHER jeans on sale, which is actually pretty often. Make sure you’re following us on IG, Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter.
Shop Discount Retailers & Sale Sections: Sizing availability is always an issue here, but some of the BEST deals on MOTHER jeans are usually at Nordstrom Rack and Saks OFF 5TH. There’s also often a decent selection in the sale section on MOTHER’s site, as well as the sale section at Saks, Nordstrom, and Bloomingdale’s. Most discounted pairs on these sites are older washes of current styles, and if you’re patient and willing to click around to find your size, there are some amazing steals.
Search eBay: In the Selfie section of this post, I provided links to used or discounted pairs of each style of jeans on eBay, which if you’re super-lucky, you can find your size at a deep deep discount. Additionally, you can search for your desired style and size in the eBay search bar.
4. Selfies: 10 Pairs of MOTHER Jeans, Tried & Reviewed
I’m not a skinny jeans gal, so you won’t see me covering much of that style (Shana’s a fan of these) but I’ve got wide-leg, cropped flares, full-length flares, straight-leg, and several variations of these totally covered.
Keep in mind that stock in MOTHER jeans annoyingly fluctuates a TON from retailer to retailer. I have, therefore, included several retailers for each style below, so you may have to do some clicking to find your size.
These Jeans Are Perfect For: Anyone who loves a comfy stretchy classic flare (and isn’t super tall). These would work as a nice cropped flare option for you tall ladies. I wear my Weekenders casual with a tee and sneaks, as well as dressed up with heels and a fancy top. MOTHER The Weekender flares and clogs are my go-to “fancy jean outfit”.
The Details: 9 1/2 -10 3/4″ Rise | 31″ Inseam | 20″ Leg Opening
Sizing Notes: I’m wearing a 27 (5’2, Pear Shaped, 135 lbs). Nice and stretchy, so the 27 is still good for me despite the fact that I’m more of a 28 in many styles. I had to hack mine off, but not near as much as I usually have to with flares.
The Shoes I Wear With MOTHER The Weekenders: Sneakers, low heels, sandals, flip flops, booties…pretty much EVERYTHING year-round. I have them hacked off JUST short enough to wear with sneakers but long enough to wear with a low heel.
MOTHER The Insiders Are Perfect For: That everyday easy-going, relaxed look that’s super-easy to wear. One of my most-worn pair of jeans. Not as flared as the Hustlers, but not as straight-leg as the Tomcats.
Details: 10″ Rise | 26″ Inseam | 15″ Leg Opening
Sizing Notes: TTS. Wearing a 28 here (5’2, Pear Shaped, 135 lbs) and they’re shown in original form–didn’t cut or hem this pair.
The Shoes I Wear With MOTHER The Insiders: Mostly sandals, sneakers and clogs, but could wear them with sock booties or clog boots in winter. They look good with flats too.
MOTHER The Hustlers Are Perfect For: Anyone who likes Madewell’s demi-boot denim. I thought I loved Madewell’s version of the crop flare, until I tried MOTHER and then I was hooked. The feel, the stretch, the perfect fit. It’s good.
Details: 11” Rise | 27.5 ” Inseam | 17 ” Leg Opening
Sizing Notes: TTS. Wearing an old pair of 27s here that have stretched a bit (5’2, Pear Shaped, 135 lbs), but the 28s fit me well too. I hacked them off myself for the above the ankle hem length.
The Shoes I Wear With MOTHER The Hustler: Sandals, sneaks, flats and clogs mostly…and sock booties and clog boots in the winter.
MOTHER The Tomcat Are Perfect For: Someone searching for a soft, stretchy, pair of straight-leg jeans that look “borrowed from the boys” as MOTHER describes them. I’ve never found a pair of straight-leg jeans that I would wear (I’m a flare gal pretty much all the way) until I tried these. I want to size up 1 or 2 sizes and attempt to wear them full-length for the current slouchier trend.
Details: 10 3/4 -10 7/8 ” Rise | 26 ” Inseam | 14 ” Leg Opening
Sizing Notes: Size up or size up 2 sizes if you like your straight-leg jeans on the slouchier side. I’m wearing an old pair of 28s here, but I’m squeezed in and a 29 or 30 would be better for me now (5’2, Pear Shaped, 135 lbs).
MOTHER The Pixies Are Perfect For: Those who hate skinny jeans, but need a skinny-ish/straight-leg style or those who love skinny jeans, but are trying to slightly branch out a bit and dip their toes in to a slightly more straight-leg cut.
Details: 11″ Rise | 27.5″ Inseam | 13″ Leg Opening
Sizing Notes: TTS. Wearing 28 here (5’2, Pear Shaped, 135 lbs).
The Shoes I Wear With MOTHER The Pixies: I wore these in the winter tucked into snow boots, as well as my clog boots, but they’re wide enough to be worn over a slim sock bootie.
MOTHER The Insiders Are Perfect For: Those who love a cropped flare, but want a more interesting hem. I love wearing mine with a casual tee and sneaks.
Details: 10″ Rise | 26 ” Inseam | 15″ Leg Opening
Sizing Notes: TTS. Wearing a 28 here (5’2, Pear Shaped, 135 lbs). I had them hemmed for above the ankle length keeping the step hem.
The Shoes I Wear With MOTHER The Insiders: Pretty much everything…sneakers, sandals, clogs or heels, and sock booties or clog boots in the winter.
MOTHER The Tomcats Are Perfect For: Anyone who wants to venture into baggier/slouchier jean trends, but not into the full-on ’90s straight-leg or mom jeans. A great full-length, wide-leg jean for us short gals…I can’t decide if I like them as much as cropped wide legs for the tall women. These are uber soft, uber stretchy, and are a dream to wear. I wear them primarily with crop-ish tops and sneakers.
Details: 11″ Rise | 30″ Inseam | 26 1/4″ Leg Opening
Sizing Notes: TTS. Wearing a 28 here (5’2, Pear Shaped, 135 lbs). Nice and stretchy.
The Shoes I Wear With MOTHER The Tomcats: Primarily sneaks. I wear flats if I want to dress them up.
MOTHER The Scrappers Are Perfect For: If you love the Tomcats, but want more wash options. SO many washes on MOTHER’s Site.
Details: 10 1/4′ Rise | 26″ Inseam | 14″ Leg Opening
Sizing Notes: Wearing a 28 here, but should have sized up for a slouchier look (5’2, Pear Shaped, 135 lbs).
The Shoes I Wear With MOTHER The Scrappers: I would wear these similarly to the way I wear my Tomcats….with sneakers or sandals, but Laura wears her MOTHER straight-leg jeans with boots and even heels.
MOTHER The Doozy Are Perfect For: You lovely tall ladies looking for the perfect soft, stretchy comfy flare jeans. I wear my MOTHER flares with clogs and a fancy top for date night or with sneaks and a tee for every day.
Details: 10″ Rise | 34 ” Inseam | 25″ Leg Opening
Sizing Notes: TTS. Wearing a 28 here (5’2, Pear Shaped, 135 lbs).
The Shoes I Wear With MOTHER The Doozy: Clogs, sneaks and sandals with a platform or wedge, heels.
MOTHER Denim Shorts Are Perfect For: Anyone who a likes stretchy shorter short and is willing to pay $$$ for fancy shorts.
Details: 10 3/4″ Rise | 3″ Inseam | 24″ Leg Opening
Sizing Notes: Size up. I’m wearing a 29 (my regular size is 28) and they’re still snug, so size up 2 sizes if you want them slouchier.
The Shoes I Wear With MOTHER Denim Shorts: Sandals and sneaks…or heels for you super fancy shorts-wearing ladies.
Alright, guys, what other MOTHER styles did I miss that you guys recommend or want to hear more about? Any other denim brands you’d like to see covered in depth? You know I always love to hear from you.
