Sorel just pretty much nails the winter boot thing every year, right? I mean, if these inspo pics below don’t make you want to try on the Sorel Caribou line, I don’t know what will.
They definitely worked on me, because I recently ordered 5 pairs (plus a bonus style) to check out. Most of the pairs I tried are from a new line this year called Sorel Caribou X and they have some really on-trend details that I am LIVING for…lug soles, sportier vibes, new textures, fun colors…it’s good, friends.
Here are the styles I was inspired to try…
Clog | Cozy Chelsea | Royal | Chelsea | Lace
Note: All of these shoes say waterproof in the descriptions so I won’t continue to repeat that below each time, but that’s one reason we love Sorel so much! Also, I found I needed to size up 1/2 size in all of these boots, especially to accommodate warm socks.
The 5 Sorel Caribou Boots I Tried
I tried my best to cover the full range of this updated line of Sorel winter boots and hit a couple of styles –with and without the faux shearling– then one classic Caribou heavy-duty boot to compare to. Plus, one clog-style shoe by Sorel, for funzies. They’re a little funky but would be SO useful for running in and out of the house.
I also wanted to show a single pair of jeans here that have been my current go-to for boots so a slim, straight leg ankle length jean was my choice. This is typically what I wear when I need it to work with winter boots AND stay out of the mud, muck, rain or snow. These Risen jeans we keep raving about are my fav pick right now, but I also love Madewell Perfect Vintage straight.
Ok, let’s get into what seem to be our very favorite winter boots every year…Sorel!
1 | Sorel Caribou X Boot Lace WP Cozy
This Sorel Caribou X lace-up boot with the cozy texture of the faux shearling added was my favorite of the try-on. I love that it smacks of a cool combat boot but in a chic ivory and tan combo…it’s really outfit-making. Because everyone always asks (trying on this much stuff is hard when it comes to decision-making!) but I’m keeping these!
Boots | Jeans (28) | Coat (M) | Sweatshirt (S)
Fit + Comfort Details: Super cushiony insole, sturdy feel. Great ankle support. Cozy around top of foot and ankle, too. Size up 1/2 size.
Best For: Everyday, light rain or snow.
Side Note: This convertible coat from Halfdays is SO good! The cut is perfection, it’s cozy and warm without being too puffy AND it converts from a coat to a vest with zip-off sleeves! Slightly oversized.

2 | Sorel Caribou X Boot Lace WP
The Sorel Caribou X Boot Lace WP is the non-cozy version of the boot above. It’s probably better for rainy weather if you’re concerned about the faux shearling outer on that one and these are just as cushiony inside. They come in some fun sole/upper combos.
Boots | Vest (S) | Sweatshirt (S) | Jeans (28)
Fit + Comfort Details: Super cushiony insole, sturdy feel. Great ankle support. Size up 1/2 size.
Best For: Everyday, light rain or snow.
How To Style: This orange is very day-glo below, but in person, it’s not QUITE so intense. I think they’d be really fun styled even sportier than this, with sweats or leggings and a puffer. BTW, this long puffer vest from Free People is AMAZING. It’s just a little too long on my 5’4″ self.

3 | Sorel Caribou Royal
If I didn’t already have a pair of all-weather Sorel winter boots, I’d keep these Sorel Caribou Royal boots. I love the lighter color combo as a fresh option right now and these are so comfy and sturdy.
Boots | Similar Jacket (this year’s version) | Jeans (28)
Fit + Comfort Details: Cushiony insole, sturdy feel. Great ankle support. Size up 1/2 size.
Best For: Yucky cold weather, snow.

4 | Sorel Caribou X Boot Chelsea Cozy
If you need a Chelsea style boot that can handle a bit of weather, these Caribou X Boot Chelsea Cozy are SO cute. Reviews say they’re impossible to get on, but I totally disagree. I think you know if you have a high instep or not and whether pull-on style boots work for you.
I didn’t find them any more difficult than any other Chelsea boot I’ve owned. The lug sole and details are really cute and these would be a bit warmer than the lace-ups above, but give a similar vibe. I’d probably use this spray to additionally waterproof the sherpa. Obviously, this isn’t the shoe for super messy days, but super cute for cold ones!
Fit + Comfort Details: Sturdy feel. Decent ankle support. Size up 1/2 size.
Best For: Everyday, light rain or snow.

5 | Sorel Caribou X Boot Chelsea WP
I keep on trying and trying, but black boots just rarely seem to work for me. I thought perhaps this pair with the gum sole would be good, but they’re still just hard to style on my shorter legs.
Boots | Sweater (M) | Coat (M) | Jeans (28)
Fit + Comfort Details: Sturdy feel. Decent ankle support. Size up 1/2 size.
Best For: Everyday, rain or light snow.
How To Style: These boots would work with black denim or pants (which I don’t wear too often, honestly) but with the faded denim, they just aren’t my favorite. Honestly, I love the ivory color above so much more.

Bonus Pair: The Sorel Caribou Clog
Under $90, this Caribou Clog is the perfect shoe to slip-on and grab the mail, take the dog out, drop the kiddo off, etc. These slip-on shoes are so comfy…like winter’s pillow slide!
Clog | Sweater (M) | Coat (M) | Jeans (28)
Fit + Comfort Details: Sturdy feel, comfy. Not too heavy. Easy on/off.
Best For: Everyday, rain.
How To Style: I think I’d mostly wear the clogs with wide-leg sweats or regular sweatpants instead of jeans, but I love them with this long puffer so much. Yes, they are a bit funky-garden-clog but there’s something I love about them…probably the ease. They come in some really bright colors, plus a neutral gray.

Which is your favorite boot? I’m loving this sportier route Sorel is going this year…or for the past couple of years. It’s like sneakers meet snow boots and I’m here for it!
