Which Spring Jeans Should I Keep? A Try-On

I don’t know whether it’s the amount of stuff in my mom brain day-to-day, my age as things are shifting and changing, or just being alive during this era, but I am all of a sudden indecisive. Historically I have always had strong opinions on my clothes, especially jeans, and have had zero doubts about what I liked or didn’t like. But now I struggle. I’m sure it has something to do with changing jean shapes and trends, too…

Searching For My New Spring Denim: A Try-On

I’m not one to shy away from trends, though! Within reason, I always dip my toe into new styles. It all started with trying on a pair of cuffed wide-leg jeans (see that post here) but then kept going with more denim try-ons and alas, here we are. I confused myself a bit on which pair of jeans I would actually get the most wear out of for Spring, so I thought, let’s just make this decision together. Some of these are an investment and I want to consider the various factors.

The Contenders: 4 Pairs I Tried

What did I want when I began this search for new spring denim? Honestly, just some baggy jeans that fit and look good on me. Gray, black or blue wash weren’t really overly strong factors here, but baggy + comfy + jeans that suit my body, were.

Here’s a little run-down of the decision-making I HAVE done so far, on the pairs of jeans I tried.

1 | AGOLDE Clara Low Slung (aka Midrise)

Tee (M) | Jeans (29) | Sneakers

These AGOLDE Clara jeans were a great surprise, in more ways than one. I originally ordered them for a grey jeans try-on…well, turns out they are taupe. BUT the fit is amazing! They are one of very few pairs I’ve put on recently and thought “oooh” Mostly I put jeans on right now and think “ouch.” Heh.

I Like Lowrise Now?! But these lower rise (actually mid-rise) jeans are where it’s at I think for my midsection that doesn’t like squishing right now. They hit right below my belly button and are comfy without being actually low-rise. I love them. I’ve now ordered them in blue to try out, too.

True to size on these, and AGOLDE jeans always break-in beautifully without getting too baggy. They don’t have much stretch but are still comfy to wear since the waist doesn’t dig in. And that always seems to be the hardest part to break-in for me these days. The booty and thighs will mold to my body with wear. Love!

Versatile, But Do I Actually Like Them? So, these Levi’s Baggy Dady jeans that I know Shana loves were one of my first try-on pairs and I initially thought I loved them, too, but looking over all these photos I’m not sure they’re the most well-suited to my frame. But…I still kinda like them? I think it’s because I can wear them both long and cuffed.

But, I think I’ll stick with an actual barrel jean (I also adore the Moxie jeans) instead of the dad style. It’s a little too tapered at the ankle for my taste right now.

I have done a couple of months of Nuuly clothing rental to help get me out of a self-proclaimed fashion rut. This job requires me to always be on the up and up and sometimes that’s tough this time of year. So renting a few things for a few months has helped me play a bit. Highly recommend!

Tried, Re-tried + Tried Again. This first pair of CoH jeans came in my Nuuly for March. And I immediately fell in love. I took them to Palm Springs and wore them with a vest-as-a-shirt with sandals and a fun bag. I’ll put that below, too. FUN.

But then I got back, tried more jeans on and confused myself as to how much I actually loved the fit of these. I do think being from Nuuly these have been washed a lot and I could tell the length shrunk just a bit to the new pair I ordered in a size up (further down.)

(Color Note: They are the same pair but the lighting was so different on these two days! They don’t usually read this dark as they look here IRL.)

So, I proceeded to order them in a size up to see if I wanted a bit more slouch…

No To ‘More Slouch.‘ Turns out…no. I did not. I think it’s the rise + fit there that doesn’t quite work on me. It’s better in the 29 but more pronounced here in the size 30’s. I think I got confused because I love love the cuffs (cuffed twice here, once above) and the butt is cute on both sizes. But alas, back to the drawing board I went.

4 | Citizens of Humanity Ayla Baggy Wide Leg In Quartz Gray

See. Tried. Again. And when I say back to the drawing board, I mean, back to try them again in gray. Haha. I had ALREADY tried this pair in gray in this same size previously but I needed another go.

The 29 is definitely the right size, but hmm. I’m being really indecisive because these are an investment and I’m ok with that. But I do love the gray color. For some reason these feel (in both colors) just a little heavier than I want…but the color keeps drawing me back. I think that’s why I keep trying. It’s a perfect gray!

5 | Levi’s 94 Baggy Wide Leg Alt

I’m Just A Skater Boi. For the last pair in this round up, I went a little out there and tried this super wide leg 94 Baggy Alt jean from Levi’s. There was something about it online that drew me in even though I am not typically a fan of really wide legs on my frame.

But these are rad right?! My wannabe skater-girl self loves this cut. You can see by the odd look on my face something is going on in my head but the more I look at these on the more I want to try them again in the size up. These fit but just barely in the 29 and as we know Levi’s break-in beautifully with wear, but I still need to compare. SOMEDAY I’ll learn my lesson and order 2 sizes every time I order jeans. LOL. Maybe I won’t. I’ve been doing this for 8 years, y’all. haha.

In conclusion, the struggle with deciding on jeans is real right now. As we have witnessed. LOL.

But I’m stoked to try the AGOLDE Clara on in blue. I think they’re gonna be the pair I’ve been looking for. I’ll report back when I try those and if I reorder the Levi’s 94 Baggy Alt in the size up.

What baggy and/or cuffed wide leg jeans have you been trying out for spring? As always let me know what else I may need to check out! And thanks for your patience with me as I age and get way more indecisive. LOL.

  1. I have found that a belt is my new best friend. Most of the jeans/ pants I wear now are technically way too big in the waist, but feel great when I wear them with a belt. I wear alot of Tibi and have found their designer intent is perfect. For example I’m a solid size 4 with 27 inch waist but most of my jeans/ pants measure out as a 31-32 inch waist. I really abhor how free people super sizes up on their models- it’s like they think we can’t handle a bigger looking waist on our pants even though that’s really what we want!!!

    • Ah interesting! I like this idea! The problem sometimes is the range of sizes stops at like a 32 so for those of us already wearing a 29-30 we might not be able to size up quite as much, but I do like your thinking on this!

  2. The Ayla 29’s look fantastic and the Levi’s 94 in a size up could definitely work. I don’t like spending more than $100 on jeans so I got the Everlane Super Baggy Regular in the light wash on sale (the fit and feel is gorgeous, I love them) and then sewed in a cuff as my own version of the Ayla and I could not be happier with the results.

  3. I just bought the Joe’s Mia wide-leg (in petite), and they are lightweight, soft and just delightful. They are not baggy, however. I’m 51, 5’1″ and small– the whole baggy, wide-leg, cuff thing is just too much. I look like a toddler wearing hand-me-downs.

  4. I tried kut from the kloth Meg wide leg cuffs from evereve. Nope—not enough room in the hips for me. I love the CoH Ava (3a) on you!

  5. I took a chance on the Ayla CoH is light wash blue!! I LOVE them! My son came home from college and said I looked like all the college girls and they were really cool! 😍 He doesn’t always notice my clothes so I figure that’s a win! I love them on you too! Best of luck! Finding a unicorn jean that we feel like a million bucks in is fing hard!

  6. I really like the blue Citizens of Humanity pair. Looks great on you, and the slightly boho vibe with the vest and sandals is adorable.
