The HUGELY Popular Uniqlo Puffer Is Back!

Yes, you guys…this is the third year in a row I’ve featured the Uniqlo Puffer. Why, you may ask? Well…it’s lightweight, warm, comfortable, nice looking, reasonably-priced, hugely popular, gets great reviews, is an easy-to-wear style, and I wear it on repeat year after year.

Also, the Uniqlo puffer’s simple design is the perfect “canvas” for showcasing my obsession with the mix-and-match, pick-a-pom winter hats. So… it doesn’t really make sense NOT to get excited when these puffers come back in stock. Right? Warning: In year’s past, the navy and black have sold out pretty fast.

The Search For The Perfect Puffer Coat — A Review

I wrote my initial puffer post two years ago, and then wrote about the Uniqlo and Boden Puffers again in 2019. Briefly: I had been searching for the perfect puffer coat. I wanted: lightweight, not too constricting, nice lines that don’t make me look like a giant marshmallow…warm (of course), covers my tush, and most importantly, something fun…interesting…with some sort of oomph.

We're reviewing the Uniqlo women's down puffer coat — AGAIN😂 Lightweight, warm, comfy & affordable, it comes in black, lavender & cream. Let's go!

Uniqlo Puffer (2020 Version) | Boden Puffer (2020 Version)

I gave up my search for the perfect interesting unique puffer and bought what I thought (at the time) was the most boring coat ever from Uniqlo. It ended up being fantastic. Super-comfy, a pretty matte finish, nice lines, and a perfect neutral for all the pops of color winter accessories I like to add. I’m now on year three of wearing it on the repeat. AND — I keep getting compliments on my very basic (dare I say a bit boring?) coat.

Although I do still think the Boden coat is a fun fabulous option, this year I decided to change it up a bit and try ALL the colors of my beloved Uniqlo puffer. Per usual, I’ll continue trying other puffers throughout this winter, but come this time next year? My prediction is I’ll be talking about the Uniqlo coat yet again.

Although I’m obviously a huge fan of the Uniqlo puffer, my plan is to continue my search for more great puffers throughout this winter. Last year I took a look at AllSaints, as well as J.Crew and Everlane. I’ve also looked at the Amazon Coat and Alternatives to the Amazon Coat. I’m pretty excited to try this Athleta velvety short puffer and the Allbirds new puffer as well. Any other puffer jackets out there you guys really want the TME team to review? Let us know what brands you guys are searching!

Also…let me know your thoughts on the colors I tried. I already have the navy one from a few years ago, but kind of want another one. I won’t tell you the color I’m leaning toward, so I don’t influence your comments…ha! Thanks, guys!

  1. I love the olive and the natural. I had always wanted a cream colored winter coat, but never bought one until I moved to Florida. I figured when I lived in NYC it would just get filthy, but If I only wear it a few days a year when I vacation in cold climates, it would hold up. Alas, I don’t think I’ll be vacationing anywhere cold this winter.

  2. This looks like a really great coat! I love the matte finish! Blue would have been my choice, but since you have that already, I’d go with olive, too. My current favorite coat is the Kanda Puffer from Universal Standard. It’s kiiinda ridiculous and I love it all the more for it. I got it on crazy sale last winter and can’t wait to start wearing it soon!

  3. The information is very special, I will have to follow you, the information you bring is very real, reflecting correctly and objectively, it is very useful for society to grow together.

  4. I’ve been looking at the puffer coats that have that silver lining that looks like those silver emergency blankets. Do they work? I feel like my only social options will be outside this year, and I’m in the midwest where it is already COLD. I’d love to see more posts on how to look cute and put together while also not freezing!

    • Oooooooh….interesting! I haven’t tried any of the silver lining coats, but they’re now on my list. I had my first cold outdoor socializing this weekend (where it was close to freezing) and definitely need to think through my hang-out-outside-for-long-periods-of-time wardrobe. I basically just layered everything comfy I owned on my body and then sat under a weighted blanket…it wasn’t the best look I’ve ever had, but I did stay warm. Ha!

  5. Yes!!! I bought the Kanda puffer in the green! I didn’t need another coat, but the flash-sale price was so good! I live in MN, so I’ve worn it a few times already this Fall and have gotten compliments every time.

  6. I love the lavender on you! It suits your style so well!
I’m after a multi-use coat – I want to work outside (hauling branches, building a shed, going on a hike, etc.), to keep me WARM, not be bulky, have a hood *and* look cute/not enormous. Oh, and preferably less than $100. Our Missouri winter is short-ish but I can’t hang with the cold at all. 🙂

    • Thanks, Traci…I will be on the lookout for something that meets these requirements..and hopefully our readers might chime in too. 🙂

  7. Oh I have this in black short, bought in Singapore of all places ( how does one ever even think about a puffer in Singapore! 🥵), and I love it. I’ve lived in it for a few years. I also have the long Allsaints from last year, which is much warmer I think.

  8. I love the lavender on you! Gotta have a black puffer, but if you have two, why not go for something beyond the standard neutrals?

  9. Lavender! I got the short black one a few years ago and initially thought it was a little too plain…but, then, it turns out that is the one I wear ALL THE TIME!

  10. You inspired me to buy the green and honestly I couldn’t be happier! What a phenomenal coat, color, and price. Thank you ❤️.
