We’ve always loved us some elastic-waist pants over here at The Mom Edit, and our love is reaching new heights, now that a quarantine has been thrown into the mix. Since we consider ourselves to be something of a Panel of Experts On Elastic Waist Pants, we thought we’d share the exact pair of pants (joggers, leggings, sweatpants) we’re each turning to the most these days…as well as show a couple of options on styling said pant.
Obviously #TeamStretchyPants takes their job very, very seriously.
Joggers. Leggings. Sweatpants: Our Favorite Elastic-Waist Pants
Last note: If there’s any pair of pants below that you’d like to see styled up more ways (I find those articles especially helpful — hopefully you do, too)…let us know. I can *usually* strong-arm/verbally harass on Slack the contributors into submission.
Except for Cams. Obviously.
(Laura will also just nod at me and then do whatever she wants…but she’s usually up for this sort of thing anyway.)
LAURA: Athleta Joggers
If I had to be a pants style that wasn’t jeans, I’m pretty sure it’d be joggers. Comfy, sporty and not leggings is why I love joggers. Why am I pants though? Who knows? #quarantine. I love these joggers and I’ve raved about them forever. The ones I’ve linked below are also Athleta and super-similar (and best-sellers, well-reviewed!) I adore that they come in petite lengths, being my 5’4″ self and all, as so many joggers look bunchy and long on me. You can check out more of my current Athleta favs here in this post where, you guessed it, I link to even more joggers. Pop on a graphic tee and Vans OR a breezy blouse and white Birks with black joggers, and you’ll be cute and comfy wherever you don’t go right now. xo
SCOTTI: Lululemon Align Joggers
I recently found these joggers when I was doing my search for the best ones–these were hands-down my favorites. Super-soft and comfy and perfect for everyday, especially in quarantine. Dress them up (at least, to leave the house) with a denim jacket and sandals, and down with a basic hoodie. Or graphic tee. Or tank. These pants go with all the casual things without screaming SWEATPANTS! I can’t get over how soft the fabric is: I’ve washed (and air-dried), them and they held up perfectly.
CAMS: Athleta Joggers
TALL GALS, hey. I found the joggers that actually fit us…one of my favorite pairs being the ones below. At first I thought they were too long, but then realized, no. This is how joggers are supposed to fit. I’ve just gotten used to short ones. I like the chambray linen of these! I feel comfortable around the house and just have to do easy switcheroos to make it more errand-friendly. p.s. I have a full post coming with all of the tall joggers I found!
LINZI: Athleta Leggings
Those of you who subscribe to the TME newsletter know that the other evening I looked at my Fitbit and it read 802 steps. You guys…it is NOTHING for me during “regular times” to get 20,000 steps on any given day, so this is RIDICULOUS! These cute Athleta leggings are helping, though. I’ve started to wear them on outside walks and to exercise inside, but they’re also pretty darn cute with a casual sweater or a cardigan too. Soft, comfortable, and they come in a great blue and black colorway as well.
JULIETA: Olive Joggers
I wear olive joggers more than any black pair. The color has more spring vibes and is more universally flattering than black. If you’re on the warmer side go for one with more yellow. Cooler side? There are olive colors with more blue or grey in them like these. Mine are long gone, but I LOVE these from Athleta (very neutral color).
KAT: Champion Joggers
At this point, I feel like I pretty much live in some variation of stretchy pant… joggers, leggings & harem pants. If you watched my most recent TME joggers video, then you already know that I have a ton of options in my wardrobe. Lately I have been loving my Champion jogger sweats. Basically, if leggings and joggers had a child together, they would be these jogger sweats! They are super-soft, very stretchy and they have pockets! I am pretty sure that anything that has pockets is a winner in my book, and I am so much more likely to pick a stretchy pant that comes with a pocket. I love that these pants are more slim fit on me, while still having all the benefits of comfort and stretch. Ps. Stay-tuned for another stretchy pant’s video a’la my FAV leggings!
EM: Adidas Joggers
Lest you think your eyes deceive you…no, these are not the same joggers. But they are the same brand and fit — and I plead laundry day, guys. I just couldn’t get the striped babes out of the dryer in time to snap the second photo, so here we are. Two equally good pairs of Adidas joggers that I would style up exactly the same way, both SO comfy — mid-rise, slim but not skinny — and classic as can be. (I know what you’re thinking — really, you’d do stripes on stripes? And yes, yes I would. Also, yes, I’m still wearing the heck out of this Voloshin x TME top from last year. If it ain’t broke, friends.)
SHANA: NAADAM Sweatpants
I’ve been living in stretchy pants lately…which ones to choose?? Since I already styled up those wide-leg Athleta pants 11 ways here, I thought I go for something different. This NAADAM sweatsuit is one of my most-worn things inside the house, so I thought I’d play around to see if it could be something I’d be willing to wear outside, too. Sweatsuits On The Street often read Shana Is Wearing Pajamas Outside (at least on me) so I wanted to break past that barrier.
Turns out…the sweatsuit totally works. I think part of it might be the fit, but the monochromatic cream + slim fit (it helps that the hoodie isn’t oversized) makes it look more like a real outfit than pjs. And I’ve found straw bags to be the perfect solution when you need to bridge light colors with darks, leather sneakers, etc.,
Hmmm…let me know if you’d like me to try styling up cream sweatpants a few additional ways. They’re tricky, but I’m getting some ideas….
