Some people were born in the wrong decade.
I am not that person.
I have a deep appreciation for ’70s fashion, but I would have been the most uptight hippie. A hippie with an affinity for label makers and Excel sheets? I think not.
But dang, I love the groovy fashion. The return of flares, off-the-shoulder tops and chunky boots this fall is a whole mood that I am definitely incorporating into my fall outfit formula.
My ’70s-Inspired Fall Outfit Formula
Sweater | Jeans | Boots | Tote
What’s a fall outfit formula you ask? (I’m assuming you asked). It’s the simple process I use to select an outfit. Think of it as my own Build-a-Bear of sorts. I’m a jeans and a tee kind of gal, but make it fall fashion with a ’70s vibe, please.
1| Start With An Off-The-Shoulder Sweater or Top
In high school, whenever I wanted to feel good, I would throw on my favorite, off-the-shoulder top and strut my stuff (well as much as you can with a bright green L.L. Bean backpack slung low across one shoulder, back problems be damned, down the halls.) This AllSaints Elle Sweater brings that similar vibe except now I’m strutting the aisles of Target.
Fit Notes: The Elle Sweater runs TTS. I’m wearing a Large.

2| Find Your Perfect Flare Jeans
I’m with Shana when it comes to excitement over the divergence from another year of only skinny jeans. I am all about the ressurgence of flares and these FRAME Le High Waist Flares do not disappoint. High-rise to hold you in and enough stretch to not feel like a sausage — ’70s vibe with a modern twist. I love these flares.
Fit Notes: Size down in these FRAME jeans to account for the stretch. I’m wearing a 29.

3| Next, Chunky Boots
Nothing beats flares with a really good pair of boots. These Steve Madden Sloane Boots were one of my favorite purchases during the NSale and are the ideal length for my FRAME jeans.
Fit Notes: These Steve Madden boots run TTS. I’m wearing an 8.

4| Finish The Look With An Oversized Tote
I love a good Clare V. Midi Bag, but decided to level up to the Simple Tote for fall. This army green color was too good to pass up. I love that the bottom is structured and the rest is slouchy allowing you to shove all the errant poppits (just me?) into it.

Building a wardrobe for new seasons can be a bit overwhelming. But finding a go-to formula for fall has made it an easier transition. I’m feeling pretty groovy and ready for some totally tubular cooler temps.
