Growing up, the most important stand you could take was which Spice Girl you identified as.
I? Was Sporty Spice.
Not because I was particularly sporty (or sporty at all) but damn, did I ever want to pull off a flip the way Mel C. did in that “Wannabe” music video.
Although I’m long past the point of “spicing up my life,” and I’m definitely not attempting a flip ever, I still love a sporty athleisure look. I’ve been on the hunt for a few months now to find an “exercise” dress (quotations are important here because, while some dresses may be designed for physical endurance, that is not why I am wearing said dress.)
After trying a few dresses that weren’t quite it, TME reader Shelly suggested I try Athleta’s Expedition Dress.
Thank God for Shelly, because Athleta’s version of an active dress is it.

I have a few requirements when it comes to an activewear dress: built-in shorts, a built-in bra (OR the ability to wear a normal bra), moisture-wicking material, and, of course, pockets.

The Athleta Expedition Dress checks ALL these boxes, plus the color is fabulous. Flame Orange is an aptly named color for this dress and manages to complement my skin tone without washing me out. It just feels spring and summer ready.
Plus, the dress has sun protection (UPF 50), is wrinkle resistant and made out of a quick-drying, recycled nylon fabric. Athleta suggests one can hike, climb, or “explore the trail” in this dress.
I, too, am doing a little exploring. Of a creek, technically speaking. Cherry Creek. This dress is versatile like that.
Sizing notes: The fit is pretty TTS. Just for reference, I am 5’7, short-waisted, long legs, broad shoulders. In Athleta clothing I tend to fit in an 8-10 or medium. I ordered this dress in an 8 and it fits perfectly. This dress is available in three different colors, and is available in plus sizes, too.

Will I be hiking fourteeners in this dress? Probably not, but I COULD if I wanted to. Can I safely chase my toddler, run errands and stay cool while doing so in Athleta’s Expedition Dress? You bet.
It’s not “too much of something.” It’s just right.
