A few weeks ago, a reader came to us with the following question:
“I need tops/tees for sneakers and jeans! Not just plain tees and not graphic tees.
Where do I find these?”
It’s so true that finding interesting T-shirts that aren’t just plain tees or graphic tees is a tricky task. It definitely takes a little bit of digging, but they’re out there. When I set out to answer this reader’s question, I ended up finding a ton of great tops that fit the bill.
5 Tops To Wear With Jeans & Sneakers That Are Actually Interesting
Whether it’s lace trim or eyelet detailing or metallic fabric, there are plenty of cute, non-plain tees out there to choose from. I put together five complete looks featuring my newfound non-plain tees, jeans and sneakers.
Keep scrolling to see what I came up with…
Outfit 1: Classic Striped Tee + Wide-Leg Jeans + Clean White Sneakers
One easy way to add interest to your tees is with stripes! And there are sooo many cute striped tees out there to choose from. I actually own this cropped V-neck tee from Madewell and these Good American jeans, and I’ve worn them together many times so far this spring.

Styling Note: Add some clean white adidas sneakers and boho-inspired jewelry, and you have a practically perfect casual outfit.

Outfit 2: Shiny Metallic Tee + White Straight-Leg Jeans + Retro Nikes
I’m obsessed with metallic tees right now, especially when paired with jeans and sneakers. This gorgeous silver shirt also comes in black and gold at Anthropologie. I actually found several other amazing metallic shirts, including this other great wide-sleeve tee also from Anthropologie as well as this blue-sequin option from J.Crew.

Styling Note: Don’t leave your Apple Watch at home! Try a cool metallic watchband to elevate the look. I really like how this whole outfit came together.

Outfit 3: Varsity Tee + Cropped Blue Jeans + Converse Sneakers
One of my favorite ways to get away from just wearing a plain ol’ tee = varsity stripes. Varsity tees have a classy, little-bit-preppy vibe, without being overdone.
Styling Note: Pair a varsity tee with other preppy wardrobe classics like a plain white baseball cap, some platform Converse sneakers, these cropped blue jeans from Madewell and a woven leather bag.

Outfit 4: Low-Back, Lace-Trim Tee + Barrel Jeans + Blue adidas
This lace-trim top from Anthropologie is probably my favorite T-shirt of the bunch. The detailed, deep-V back adds just a hint of sexiness.

Styling Notes: When the top is worn with Free People’s barrel-leg jeans, those retro blue adidas Gazelle sneakers and a Dodgers baseball cap, you have an outfit I wish I was wearing right now!

Outfit 5: Eyelet Puff-Sleeve Tee + Tie-Waist Jeans + Statement Accessories
It’s alllll in the details, baby! A tee with puff sleeves and eyelet detailing is an easy way of avoiding the Plain Tee. There are so many wide-sleeve and lacy T-shirt options out there right now, including this eyelet shirt from Gap.
Styling Notes: Adding in some statement accessories — like green Quay sunglasses and a super-cute metallic bag from Gap — helps create an interesting outfit, especially when you’re going for a more plain and simple top.

Oh, hey there, Pinners. *Adds to board*

Clearly Jess is not from Northern California. There is absolutely no love for the Dodgers up here in San Francisco. 🙂
I absolutely loved this article! As a mom who often finds herself reaching for plain tees, it’s refreshing to see some cute and interesting top options to pair with jeans and sneakers. The striped tee suggestion is classic and versatile, while the puff-sleeve top adds a feminine touch. I’m definitely going to try out these styling ideas!
LOL! you got me there KT! I’m from Michigan! ‘Cute blue cap meets cute blue Adidas sneaks’ was all I was thinking when I put together that look. 😉
I’m so glad you liked the post Zara!!
