For most of my adult life I’ve preferred neutral palettes: for my home, my makeup and my clothing. I’ve thrown in pops of color to my wardrobe over the years, especially during the summer months, but just a little bit to satisfy my need for change.
This past month, however, it feels as though I have jumped headfirst into the deep end of the color pool.
I mean it.
The item that started this madness? A fresh pair of my favorite leggings in one of lululemon’s new colors for the season, “canyon orange.”
Orange Leggings. Neon Fleece…This Athleisure Outfit Gives Me All The Spring Feels
I made a silly little reel on Instagram talking about these leggings when I first found them, and when my cousin (who’s Gen Z and unashamedly one of my favorite people to watch for upcoming trends) cheered me on to buy them, I immediately hit purchase.
And I am so happy that I did.
I became really invested in trying to put together some fun, funky outfits, and this one, in particular, became a favorite to repeat. It’s filled with some of my most favorite and most-worn pieces. It brings me hope for warmer weather, puts a spring in my step, and honestly just makes me super-happy.
For some reason, I find it easiest to take fashion risks in athletic apparel. Something about the sporty nature and intending to use activewear to work up a good sweat makes it feel like anything goes. Athletic apparel requires a lot less pressure than, say, an outfit for attending a friend’s wedding. If I’m confident in the gym wearing something, I’ll certainly be pumped wearing it to run errands or hang at the park.
lululemon Align leggings have been my most-worn for the longest time. I’m constantly trying other brands (because, frankly, I love leggings) but Vuori is the only other brand that has earned a constant addition in my closet. Those two fave brands of mine even seem to be on the same wavelength, because Vuori just released their Studio Pocket Legging in the color “grapefruit” that — other than being a really delicious name — is a similar stunning shade of orange. Seriously…go see it. I just scooped up their Performance Jogger in the same brilliant shade!!
If you’ve never tried lululemon’s leggings (or maybe haven’t found the right fit) I recommend trying a size down than what you normally would wear. This advice, “you want them to feel like second skin”, was given to me by a lululemon sales associate and it was spot on.
Within the same drop that they released my beloved “canyon orange” color, lululemon also revealed a “blue nile” and “soleil” (aka bright blue and yellow)…they are tempting.
These leggings have been going the distance in my wardrobe because while they’re super-fun paired with bright pinks (and blues, too), they are fantastic with a classic white tee. Throw on sneakers or a pair of UGGs and it’s a much more subdued, yet still lively, outfit for both the gym and lounging around. These Nikes in particular come in multiple colors and are so dang comfy (more options here and my color is well- stocked over here — I do suggest going up a half size, though!
Going Bold With This Free People Fleece
This Nantucket fleece is so good. I have owned it in black for a while and it has easily been one of my go-to items this entire winter. I had been wanting another one and once I had these leggings in hand, I suddenly felt the urge to go big or go home with the color.
The fit of the fleece is just right (wearing a medium). I swear nothing else that I own keeps me quite as warm and cozy. I love that it has a cinched waistband, and the side pockets are big and actually useful.
Layering On The Pink With This Puffer
The Pippa Packable Puffer from Free People has had a seriously large fanbase for a while now. I remember Kat mentioning her love for it last winter, which was what first sparked my interest. Once I tried it for myself, I immediately understood all the commotion. The puffer is really lightweight (and literally packs down into a tiny bag) which makes it extremely easy to throw over my large, thick fleece.
So many of the reviews suggested sizing down, but I tried on two different size smalls (in this zip up along with the pullover version) and they were definitely not right. The sleeves fell short and the waist was a bit too cropped for what I hoped. Once I tried my normal size (medium) it was perfection. I’m with Kat: I can’t recommend this one enough!
