I’ve been flirting with looser fit jeans for several months now, and, at this point, what started out as an innocent flirtation has blown up into a full-on affair.
Don’t tell my skinny jeans.
The Mission: Baggy, Loose Fit Jeans I Can Really Commit To
There’s just something about these slouchier, looser styles that keeps calling my name. And yeah…in the warmer summer months, I get it: looser denim is just more comfortable. But when I was still reaching for them in the fall…well.
At first I blamed global warming. But even as “second summer” turned into actual fall (which is now quickly turning into winter) I’ve started pairing my favorite baggy, loose jeans with chunky boots, hiking boots, and recently…genuine winter boots.
I’ll write more on styling these jeans later, but I wanted to get this try-on out there because, quite frankly, these jeans are either suuuper hard to find, or selling fast. And fingers crossed that some go on sale for Black Friday!
Nobody has time for me to properly build suspense, so here’s a spoiler: I kept the first two pairs of jeans, and sent back the rest.
If you are tall, the two with the longest inseams are GRLFND’s bootcut jeans (34.5″) and Citizen’s high-rise wide-leg jeans (34″).
1. J.Crew Point Sur High-Rise Boyfriend Jeans
Shop the jeans: J.Crew
THESE. Gang, these J.Crew high-rise boyfriend jeans have quickly become one of my very favorite pairs. Although they’re *technically* rigid jeans (they’re 100% cotton), they’re super soft. They just look so nonchalantly cool…I’m obsessed. I’ve been wearing them with low-heeled booties, chunky platform boots and sneakers.
Fit Notes: The rise is nice and high (12″), and the fit is TTS; I’m wearing my usual size 26. But they definitely won’t be full-length on really tall gals: the inseam is only 31″. (I’m just under 5’3″ for reference.)

2. AGOLDE Lana Straight-Leg Jeans
Shop the jeans: Nordstrom | Saks | Revolve
These AGOLDE jeans were another solid favorite. The rise isn’t quite as high as the other pairs, but for a looser fit jean, it works. The length might be problematic for the very tall (I’m just shy of 5’3″), but I’ve been wearing these with a low heel. And now, quite frankly, since they’ve loosened out a bit, I’m now wearing them with a low heel AND a cuff, too. In fact, you can see them styled like this in my Best Maxi Coats article. The bum is decent too, always tricky for the looser fit jeans. I’m wearing a size 27 in these jeans. They run a bit small.
Fit Notes: I’m wearing my usual size 26 in these jeans. Fit is TTS. They’re 100% cotton, the rise is 11″, and the inseam is 30″.

3. AGOLDE Criss Cross Jeans
Shop the jeans: Nordstrom | Saks | Revolve
OK. While I LOVE the slouchy, boyfriend-y vibe here, these jeans, ultimately, were more complex than I wanted to deal with. They look amazing with heels and tucked in, skimpy little tops. But when paired with chunkier winter boots and sweaters…they’re just too much jean for me. If I had a few more curves or a bit more height, I probably would’ve liked them. (Abby is wearing a pair in our Amazon live on effortless entertaining and they look GREAT on her. That’s actually what inspired me to give them a try.) I may give these another shot in warmer weather, but for now…nah.
Fit notes: I’m wearing the 26 here, although I also liked the 27s (they almost did that falling off the hips thing from the ’90s.) 100% cotton, 12″ rise, 28″ inseam. The exact wash I’m wearing is ‘suburbia’.

4. AGOLDE ’90s High-Rise Pinch Waist Jeans
Shop the jeans: Shopbop | Revolve | Nordstrom (different wash) | Saks (different wash)
It’s funny how different these jeans look on the model (actually…ALL of the models if you click through). They must have VERY tiny waists, because the whole point of these jeans is that “pinch waist”. You can actually see it on me: the waistband itself goes in, pretty dramatically. The good news is that the pinch waist makes these jeans VERY flattering, especially when worn with a tucked-in top. The bad news, at least for me, is that these aren’t the most comfortable jeans because of it. That said, they’re much more comfortable than the name implies, and might be great for those who have more curves than I do.
Fit notes: 100% cotton, rise is 11″, inseam is 29″. I’m wearing my usual, 26. Fit is TTS.

5. GRLFND High-Rise Bootcut (Full-Length)
Shop the jeans: Revolve
These jeans are obviously too long on me (the inseam is a whopping 34.5″ inseam), but otherwise, I LOVE these jeans. They’re rigid but soft, and I really like the whole classic bootcut jeans vibe.
Fit notes: 100% cotton, 11.5″ rise, 34.5″ inseam, runs a bit small (I’m wearing a 27 here).

6. GRLFRND High-Rise Bootcut (Petite)
Shop the jeans: Revolve
It’s funny, although these jeans look better in the photo, I ended up liking the standard, not petite version of the jeans better. These jeans fit small overall, and have a lower rise. And while the drape of the leg is better (due to the shorter length), I can achieve that by hacking the extra material off of the longer pair. That said…I do have a pretty high rise, so petite pants don’t usually work well on me.
Fit notes: 100% cotton, 10.25″ rise, 30″ inseam. Runs a bit small (I’m wearing a 27P here).

7. Citizens Of Humanity Wide-Leg Jeans
Shop the jeans: Revolve | Citizens of Humanity
Now these jeans are SOFT. Deliciously so. Like most jeans, I’d need to hack them off to get the length right, but I loved the high rise, and easy (drapey) fit through the hips. If you are looking for denim with perfect slouch, this is a pretty solid pair to try.
Fit notes: 100% cotton, 12″ rise, 34″ inseam, fit is TTS.

8. AGOLDE ’90s Ripped Mid-Rise Loose Fit Jeans
Shop the jeans: Revolve | Nordstrom | Saks (also in a black wash) | Verishop (ooo…they have ALL possible washes listed here)
My sister Scotti and I have different body types, so therefore we almost never agree on jeans. This cute pair from AGOLDE, however, breaks that mold. Not only do I really like them (they remind me of my beloved — and v. destroyed — Levi’s 501s), but they look freaking ah-mazing on Scotti (seriously it’s one of her favorite outfits).
Fit notes: 100% cotton, fit is TTS (although it sounds like Scotti sized down), 12″ rise and 28″ inseam.

9. Re/Done Original ’90s High-Rise Loose Fit Jeans
Shop the jeans: Revolve | Verishop (other washes) | Saks | Shopbop
I know everybody loves these Re/Done jeans. But I’ve found that Re/Done is a little stingy with their rises (it’s only 10.5″), so on me…it breaks funny around my…ahem…area. Otherwise, I like everything else about these jeans: the wash, color, fabric. Alas, not for me. BOO.
Fit Notes: 100% cotton, fit is TTS (wearing a 26 here – and no, the 27 didn’t help the “situation” at all), rise is 10.5″ and inseam is 32″. These jeans look great on Amy who is tall (5’9″).

All in all, I kept the J.Crew high-rise boyfriend jeans, and AGOLDE’s Lana Jeans (also at Saks or Nordstrom). In addition to the beautiful low-heeled boots featured in the photos, I’ve been pairing both of these jeans with my chunky platform boots (both these Ganni boots in green, and these Sorels), as well as platform sneakers (mine are similar to this pair. Don’t worry, they come with non-glitter laces, too). My beloved (and much-used) Danner hiking boots also work!
More on these, soon.

Shana – I just bought a pair of these and am struggling with shoes. A post on shoes to wear with this style would be so helpful. Thanks!
Hey Shana, are you a 26 or a 27 in the Agolde Lana? Your notes on sizing are conflicting. Asking because we wear the same size in 501’s and I want to order the Lana’s online.
Ahhhhh sorry about that! My sizing has been all over the place lately. But I just confirmed: I have a size 26 in the AGoldE Lana jeans!
Really good to know that the Re/Dones are actually a slightly lower rise! I need that, and have been avoiding Re/Done because they always claim to be 11″.
Shana, what size did you get in the COH jeans to try on? I am so confused because you say TTS, the COH site says ‘size down’ and the Revolve site model is wearing a 26!
