Although I tried on a ton of fancy-schmancy designer pieces in my Sweaters, Denim, and Cardigans Selfie Post, many of the most exciting pieces in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale this year are actually in the Under $100 Category. GREAT denim under $50, the COZIEST sweatshirt-wrap under $60, my fav joggers under $40, and the TME fav basic tee under $13!
Build A Budget-Friendly Capsule Wardrobe: Best Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Picks Under $100
Scroll down to see selfies of the pieces I’ve tried, and as things trickle in from my order I’ll update you guys with more selfies and details of pieces. Many of these budget-friendly guys sell out fast, though, so I wanted to get my top picks out there quickly for those of you who are shopping the sale today (and if you keep scrolling, I included some alternative switch-out pieces in case pieces sell out or the one I selected isn’t your style).
I was blown away when I realized SO many of the budget-friendly pieces I love in the sale mix and match super well. This fall capsule wardrobe pretty much created itself with my top picks.

1. Beige Cardigan Under $80
I tried on some fabulous fancy-schmancy cardigans in my first selfie post, but this 100% cotton v-neck cardigan from French Connection looks great! I would wear it the exact same way I wear my fancy cardigans…with black denim and brown boots or blue bootcut jeans or flares and clogs.

2. Free People Tee Under $25
I got this Free People Tee in the turquoise floral print, but am going to exchange it for the one shown above in gray. I find this print much more versatile with my other fall neutrals. The tee fits TTS and is soft and thin, so great for wearing now or layering this fall.

3. Zella Sweatshirt Wrap Under $60
Remember this comfy cozy guy from this winter??? Well, he’s back and available in three colors, and all three are under $60! The sweatshirt wrap is ridiculously soft on the inside…my little guy crawled inside when I first put it on and didn’t want to leave. Runs big unless you’re wanting to wear thick layers underneath.

4. Fun Sunnies Under $40
I had been eyeing these fancy Pradas, but honestly…I am so in love with these fun budget-friendly sunnies (that are on sale for under $40) that I stopped looking at the fancy ones. The color is even better when the sun catches the trim. Details on the rest of the look I’m wearing above here (warning: not everything is budget-friendly).
5. Statement Earrings Under $25
AllSaints is killing it this year in the NSale! These statement earrings are pretty fabulous, but I just popped these little guys (under $25) in my cart as well.

6. AllSaints Sweater Under $75
This AllSaints Top is technically a sweater, but it feels more like a top/t-shirty/sweatshirt to me. It’s fairly lightweight, soft, not at all scratchy, and drapes more like a shirt than a sweater. The snaps take a bit to get used to, and it takes a bit of playing around with them to get them adjusted just right, but once you find the right snap arrangement it’s so good! Looks good with joggers, denim, or dressed up for evening.

7. Statement Jacket Under $100
I came home with a different plaid coat (see selfies here), but this one just came in and it’s SO super cute. This green jacket feels a little more playful, isn’t quite as oversized, and I adore the trim, buttons and pocket detailing. BUT….if you’re sensitive to itchy materials, this coat is NOT for you. I tried it on with a tank top and it felt pretty itchy. I tried it on with a long-sleeve top (which is how I would actually wear it) and the material didn’t bother me (but Shana hated it). So, just keep in mind my original one is lined and this one isn’t.

8. French Connection Sweater Under $80
I was so sad they didn’t have this sweater in my Nordstrom store to try. It’s 100% cotton and comes in three easy-to-wear colors. Zoom in to see the textured popcorn knit.

9. Lipstick Set Under $40
I have to admit…my top pick is actually this YSL lip set under $40 (that’s my fav lip brand), but this Mac lipstick set comes with five different shades and they all look really good. From affordability perspective…this one might be better. I like combining lipsticks until I get the exact shade I want for that day, and this set looks perfect for that with such a good range of pinks, reds, peaches, and browns.

10. Cat Print Bag Under $75
Okay….we are all going wild over all the Clare V’s in the sale, but I recognize they are ridiculously expensive and there are plenty of budget-friendly options that capture the same look. This leopard print bag from Madewell is pretty darn cute and at a much more wallet-friendly price than the $300-ish Clare V’s. Also check out this one at Saks Off 5th for under $30!
11. Sling Backpack Under $30
I found this sling backpack in the men’s section, but it looks pretty perfect for those days you have stuff to carry, but not ALL the stuff. I really like this colorway too.

12. Black Denim Under $50
It looks like the black wash in the Good American denim I brought home sold out, but I am frequently surprised by the fit and styling of Wit & Wisdom. The washes aren’t always as good as the designer brands, but they’re comfortable, fit well, and the cut is usually good too.

13. Bootcut Denim Under $50
I was SO disappointed that my Nordstrom store didn’t have the Frame flares or the MOTHER bootcuts I had been drooling over, but they DID have these Wit & Wisdom bootcut jeans and they’re GREAT! Not as high-waisted as I would like, but the wash is good, the fit is great, they’re comfortable, and look much more expensive than they actually are. Hello…under $50!!! Tons more photos of these under $50 jeans in my selfie post.
14. Gray Denim Under $50
These Wit & Wisdoms look like a really good gray denim option that’s under $50 and are a great alternative to the Gray PAIGE Cindy Button Fly jeans I’m waiting on to arrive. They might be too skinny for me…I like a good straight cut or flare denim, but as I said before… Wit & Wisdom is definitely my budget-friendly denim of choice for fit and comfort.
15. Chic Flats Under $60
I primarily wear Everlane Flats (super comfortable, in the $100 range, and tons of colors), but these chic Calvin Klein flats have a similar vibe, removable cushioned insole, a tiny stacked heel (sometimes adds to comfort to have your heel raised a bit), and are on sale for under $60! Worth a try for sure if you’re looking for new flats. Other colors available too.
16. Platform Boots Close to $100 (Sorry…I cheated!)
Fine…I cheated. These made the Under $100 post even though they’re not actually under $100, but $109 is pretty darn close. I wore these cool platform boots with EVERYTHING in my original selfie post, so if you want to see more photos of them with different types of denim go here. They have a cushioned footbed, a nice high shaft (helps for cropped denim), and because of the thick heel and platform, they don’t feel as high as they look. I’m a bit of a comfort shoe brand snob, so I don’t know if they’ll really hold up to my typical brands in terms of all-day walking comfort, but I wore them standing All.Day.Long for selfies and my feet felt fine. That’s gotta say something.

17. Ivory Platform Wedge Booties Under $100
The ivory wedges I didn’t know I needed and now they’re on their way to me. I wear my ivory Everlane boots a ton during the fall and winter, but they’re very sleek and I’m wanting something a bit more substantial. I think these might be my answer. The black with gray detailing looks even cooler, but I do not need another black bootie.

18. Platform Sneaks Under $45
I LOVE these! They’re Keds!!! Please tell me I’m not the only one old enough to remember wearing the little cute flat white ones paired with folded-over socks. These platform sneaks go perfectly with all the other mix & match pieces I’ve got goin on in this capsule and are such a fun addition for $45.

19. Zella Twist Tank Under $25
Nordstrom’s entire Zella section is a good buy right now. I in particular like this Zella Twist Tank. I’m wearing an XS and it sits just where I want it to sit (right at the top of my pants without showing belly). Several colors in this one.
20. Beyond Yoga Top Under $55
I picked up the Beyond Yoga pants because I thought they could be a cute new jogger, but they’re titled jogger-lounge pants for a reason. They are SUPER soft and the ultimate lounge pant. And the Beyond Yoga top is great with joggers, the matching lounge pants, or denim. A great print and super soft material.
21. Zella Live In Joggers Under $40
Perfect weight to wear year-round, comfy enough to wear around the house, and nice-looking enough to wear with “real clothes”. I got my first pair of Zella Live In Joggers last year in the sale and wore them year-round on repeat. I originally went with an XS and wore them more as leggings, but this year I got a S and am wearing them more as slouchy joggers. They’re on sale in four different colors (black, brown, burgundy, gray, and black/gray camo).

22. Nikes Under $50
I tried on the P448s this year but kept thinking about these Nikes. Much more budget-friendly and they come in a perfect pop of white, chiller off-white and a gorgeous rose. I’m wearing the “off-white” above, so I imagine the “white” are VERY bright.

The vince double v neck popover dress is my favorite sale item (slightly over $100). It has gotten zero attention from any blogger and it is FABULOUS (kind of in the unassuming way that most eileen fisher stuff is – blah on the hanger but feels and drapes like a charm on the body). Totally minimalist chic. I much prefer it to the vince tank dress that is in the anni sale. My fave super budget item is the basic caslon long sleeve tee shirt in the blue and yellow stripe and the nordstrom long sleeve micro-rib tee in black and white stripe that Laura featured on her post.
You are not the only person saying this!!! Thank you for the tip!
I brought that blue and yellow stripe top home and was so excited about it, but then it didn’t look good with my cardigans for some reason, so it’s going back. SUCH a good buy, though…maybe I just need to give up the cardigans….ha! NEVER! LOVE that you shared your finds…LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! Thanks for taking the time to do this, Chris. And send us a photo of you wearing the Vince dress! Linzi@themomedit.com!
The Converse yellow lug-sole boots are really cool. The yellow is surprisingly neutral and yet not, all at the same time. Waterproof, too, and I think they’re just under $100
What a fun find! How are you going to wear them???
The link for the sweatshirt wrap is not working 🙁 It directs to a blank page. I want to make sure you get credit for it, is there another link?
Oh my gosh, Veronica. So nice! Sorry about the link. Some of them have changed, so I appreciate you guys letting us know when you see this. This one appears to be working. https://shopstyle.it/l/bwo1W and this one for plus sizing https://shopstyle.it/l/bwo1Z. Looks like the black in straight sizing is sold out, but I keep seeing sizes pop back in stock, so worth checking back if that’s the one you were interested in. Thanks again, Veronica, for the heads up!
