Sometimes, the only thing better than a good basic…is a slightly-more-interesting version of that basic. And while I’ve worn my fair share of t-shirt dresses over the years, that classic silhouette isn’t one that I’d necessarily describe as…exciting.
Better Than Bodycon: A Black Midi T-Shirt Dress With Cut-Outs & A Slit
So when I came across Good American’s Dreamy Cut-Out Dress (available in inclusive sizing), I was intrigued. It’s basically a comfy t-shirt dress with strategically placed cut-outs. But instead of being va-va-voom sexy, it has an almost tomboyish vibe that balances, making this very sexy dress one I do want to wear all day.
The dress is so freaking easy to wear that I took it on our vacation in Carolina Beach. Sitting in the sand, walking around all sweaty, and eating tacos (lots and lots of tacos) — it still looked great. And since the Dreamy Cut-Out dress might have been the most comfortable thing I packed (up there with my sweatpants)…I wore it on our 8+ hour road trip home, too.
If you’re leaning less Hot Girl Summer and more Eat The Tacos Summer…maybe get the dress. You’ll have both.
Why Good American’s Dreamy Cut-Out Dress Is So Comfy And Flattering
Bizarrely, the cut-outs are so strategically placed that even on my softer stomach, it’s wildly flattering. The length is a perfect midi-length with a slit that lengthens the legs, and the fabric is that soft, stretchy, jersey dress material that the best t-shirt dresses are made of. It’s not too thin or overly thick…just easy to wear and comfortable. I’m wearing and kept size 1. (psst! See this exact dress on Kat, here.)
I was very skeptical; I don’t really wear dresses that are meant to show off a stomach (like hell to the no on this one)…but the number of glowing reviews on this dress is why I ultimately pulled the trigger. Standing, sitting, eating…this dress is flattering. The cut-outs keep it fresh, without the complexity of a crop top. It also comes in white…which is tempting, now that I know how good the material actually is, and how strategically placed these cut-outs are.
But still….the tacos.
