10 Clog Mules I Like Better Than Birkenstocks

The uber-popular Birkenstock Boston mules, y’all. I tried them again (of course I had them in college!), but they now make my feet look super-stubby. That is not a look I’m ever going for. (Did I go for that in college? Heh.) SO, I’m on the hunt for a cuter but still comfy alternative mule clog…clog mule…a similar option.

So far, I’ve been eyeing See by Chloe clogs, some Free People options, Jeffrey Campbell, Clarks, Bernardo and, yeah, a pair from my fave designer, Isabel Marant (but those are probs out of my price range). But I thought y’all might be looking for some clog-mule alternatives too, so I rounded up a little collage post here so we can peruse them together. (Maybe one of these pairs will work for us, yeah?)

Cute Slip-On Mules + Clogs If Birkenstock Bostons Don’t Work For You Either

I’ve been a mule fan for years because they’re a chic-but-easy shoe to slip on and go, but most of mine are less chunky and sleeker than the options out there now. My latest finds are definitely easy to throw on, but are they chic? Maybe.

Maybe chic mules are what I prefer, but I’m always down to give trends a try, so here we are. I will admit, friends, shoe brands are banking on the popularity and price point of the Birkenstocks, and I had trouble finding much of a range of prices to offer here (save for the Jeffrey Campbell lug-sole mules at $60). That being said, there are some STUNNING options. (Can mule-clogs-clog-mules BE stunning?)

Let’s check out the finds below, and I’ve also included some styling ideas — or at least some thoughts — with each. (Oh, and here’s another Free People basic clog I found at the last minute, if you’re looking for super-traditional!)

Birkenstock Boston clogs are not it for me, so I'm on the hunt for a cute, comfy mule that's easy to slip on & go (think: lug sole, shearling & faux fur).

1. Shoe The Bear Siri Clogs

Shoe The Bear's Siri clogs give a nod to old-man slippers from the '60s, but I think that's A Look right now, friends.

OK, these clogs are a little sleek yeah? I can’t decide if the tan or black would be more wearable. They definitely give a nod to old-man slippers from the ’60s, but I think that’s the lewk right now, friends, and these at least are made to wear out-of-doors. I think these need a lovely trouser with some drape and a button-up silk shirt with them.

2. See by Chloe Gema Shearling Mules

These See by Chloe shearling mules say coastal chic, & if you live in a drier climate, you need them.

These shearling mules are ridiculous and I know it, and I still ordered them. They do not make sense for a rainy climate, yet I still want to try them on. They say chic coastal to me, and if you live in a drier climate, you need them. Wear with wide-leg jeans and a soft V-neck cardigan worn buttoned up by itself (a la Jenni Kayne.)

3. See by Chloe Viviane Clogs

The studs & buckle of See by Chloe's Viviane clogs are what get me, & while the height definitely sets them apart from the Birkenstocks, it's also why I'm a fan.

These See by Chloe shoes are beautiful. If you’re a clog fan, these. The studs and buckle are what get me here, and while the height definitely sets them apart from the Birkenstocks, it’s also why I’m a fan. Most of the jean styles this fall look better on me with a shoe with some height.

4. Isabel Marant Mirst Slides

I think these Isabel Marant slides would shine with any pair of distressed jeans & a fabulous white tee.

If money is no object, THESE. These all day, everyday. The studs, the buckle AND the slight platform. They are gorgeous. The studs take them up so many notches compared with the Birks. I think these slides would shine with any pair of distressed denim and just a fabulous white tee (rag & bone or James Perse are my faves). I thought Rebecca Minkoff had a version of these but can’t find them anymore. If anyone finds a version like this at a more reachable price point, please do share!

5. Co-Mule Leather Studded Slides

These Co-Mule leather studded slides are amazing... If money isn't an issue, get these shoes.

Again, if money were no object…gahhh.

6. Jeffrey Campbell Clogge Clogs

Leave it to Jeffrey Campbell to make a really funky-fun option. Not sure how comfy these lug-sole clogs are, but I LOVE the look. I’d definitely wear with the slouchiest jeans and a cozy oversized sweater.

7. Bernardo Suri Mule Clogs

I'd pair these Bernardo mule clogs with a monochromatic look of ivory pants + a blouse for work or light jeans + a taupe sweater for weekends.

These mule clogs from Bernardo are a pretty loafer-style option. They’d be great for the office if you can wear backless shoes. I’d pair with a monochromatic look of ivory pants and a blouse for work or light jeans and a taupe sweater for weekends.

8. Clarks Trek Faux-Fur Mules

I'd say these Clarks faux-fur mules are probably the closest option to the Birkenstocks in overall style + vibe.

I’d say these faux-fur mules are probably the closest option to the Birkenstocks in overall style and vibe. I think the bit of platform here and the front seam would be more flattering on the foot, though, but we’d need a try-on to see. Love this color! This is definitely a casual shoe I’d style like the Birks, with slouchy jeans or wide-leg sweatpants.

9. Jeffrey Campbell Wrkathome Mules

The Jeffery Campbell Wrkathome mules have that slipper-meets-loafer vibe that's easy + casual but also preppy chic.

No, that is not a typo; that’s the name. Heh. These suede mules are super-cute and perhaps one of my favorites. They have that slipper-meets-loafer vibe that’s easy and casual but also preppy chic. Love it styled casually with the slouchy khakis here or with more tailored pieces for the office. These are gorg and kinda selling quickly.

10. Free People Culver City Clogs

The Culver City clogs have a cool slit in the wooden sole under the footbed, which in theory seems like they'd be less clompy to walk in.

These Culver City clogs are the pair I said I’d been eyeing for a while. They are so cute if you’re a clog person, AND they have a cool slit in the wooden sole under the footbed, which in theory seems like they’d be way less clompy to walk in. Sweet!

I did pick these up in Free People last spring, and the leather is sooo soft. If you want a true wooden clog, these and the See by Chloe Vivianes are definitely my top picks. I’d style these with some wide-leg or flare cords and a cozy thick cardigan.

I hope this has helped out if you’re also shopping for a Birkenstocks alternative. Even if you DO love the Birks but just can’t seem to find them in your size or favorite color because of sellouts, I’m hoping this proves a good resource for additional styles to try. Let me know if you’ve found a fave, as usual! xo

For the Pinners…

Birkenstock Boston clogs are not it for me, so I'm on the hunt for a cute, comfy mule that's easy to slip on & go (think: lug sole, shearling & faux fur).
