5 Ways To Wear Athleta’s Stellar Flare Trouser

I recently snagged a few new things at Athleta and while I didn’t do a full try-on like Shana just did, I did find one stand-out piece: the Stellar Flare Trousers.

I already owned the super soft, lined Rainier Bootcut pant (Shana and I both love those) and they give a very nice booty, I must say. But when I glimpsed the Stellar pant’s trouser-like silhouette — a similar flare shape but with more ‘real pants’ details, if you will — I knew I had to try them out.

5 Everyday Outfits Because Athleta Knows Trousers

What I love about Athleta is that they always seem to have super versatile black pants in their lineup. And while like many brands, sometimes things are hit-or-miss, Athleta is my reliable go-to when I want a pant that I can wear both for athleisure and as a regular trouser that can be dressed up. Also, don’t judge: I took these photos last week, and yes, my tree was still up. I hate taking it down and also…I hate taking it down. You know what I mean.

1. Cropped Tee + adidas Superstars

I realize I’m starting out here with kind of a springy outfit, but I want to show the fit of these pants, so here we are. Plus, I tend to get toasty so I am actually wearing this look around the house.

The Adidas Superstars are just really…stars! — with these pants! Yet they have a way of making the pants the star. They go so well together.

My around-the-house outfit is comfy + cute with a cropped tee and these Athleta flares.

2. Camel Coat + White Platform Boots + A McQueen Scarf

Ok, so, not just any printed scarf. I blame Shana for my obsession with Alexander McQueen’s skull scarves. She helped me finalize an outfit in December that included one of these printed scarves and now I’m hooked. They’re warm but not itchy or hot, plus…SKULLS. Pop a thin black sweater underneath and this could easily be an outfit for the office. Granted, my offices were always design agencies, so take that with a grain of salt.

3. Boxy Sweater + Chunky Necklace + Sorel Brex Boots

This Everlane boxy cashmere sweater has become one of my true faves. I love the length for showing off a waistline (great for those of us with shorter torsos). Plus, the boxy cut is comfy and not as fitted or as hot as other cashmere sweaters. I have it in two colors. LOVE.

This cashmere sweater from Everlane is cropped perfectly to pair with these black flare trousers.

4. Moto Jacket + Graphic Tee + Nike Dunks

I love an oversized moto jacket. And this brown jacket switches it up from my typical black. This moto jacket is becoming a piece that goes with everything from dresses to a top layer for workout outfits. I love it. My exact jacket was a Poshmark find, but I’ve linked to options below that will give a similar look. The style looks especially rad with these pants.

Nike Dunks for the win!

5. FP Movement Poncho Puffer + Sorel Chelsea Boots

Pop this FP Movement poncho puffer on top of a colorful tee (or a long-sleeved hoodie) then finish the look with these fresh, white Sorel boots and you’ve got my new favorite everyday outfit. So easy. This puffer, if I haven’t gone on about it too much, feels like wearing a tiny comforter. I love it mostly for throwing on over bulky hoodies and sweaters. But honestly? It’s cute over every top.

For the Pinners…

These Athleta flares are stellar.

  1. What size did you get in these? Read they run long? I think we are about same height 5’6? Also what size in Ranier flare?

  2. I bought these based on this post, and I was on the fence about whether to keep them! Today I looked the post back up to get some style ideas, and this is super helpful! Wearing now with a boxy cashmere sweater, and I tried some boots, but think I like the sneaker look better (at least the boots and sneakers I have already). Thanks for the tips – they are super comfy and fit SO WELL.
