I’m not a cardigan girl anymore. As much as I try to find a cool version to throw on for cooler temps, I just can’t do it. No shade if you love them, but I’ll take a structured jacket (but make it comfy) any day instead.
I love the way blazers can take an outfit up a notch in one fell swoop. And they don’t always have to be for the office. This Halogen plaid blazer jacket in a longer length is a fun new piece that adds an elevated hint to an outfit while still being easy to wear and comfy.
Since this silhouette can be a bit tricky to style sometimes, I pulled together five outfit ideas, plus the one I’m wearing below. Fall weather is just around the corner, friends.
5 Fall Outfit Ideas That Prove The Blazer Is Better

Jacket Details: I missed this long blazer early in the sale, but when I went in again last week my Nordstrom had a great section of office wear from Halogen. Sometimes Halogen pieces are way better in person than online. I love the subtle black-on-brown grid print here that feels modern without being too tricky to style.
The fabric is a blend of poly, rayon, and spandex making this lightweight jacket comfy and easy to wear. It’ll be warm without feeling heavy. It fits true to size with a little room to layer underneath. Wearing my typical M. Offered in XXS – XL.
1. With Palazzo Jeans & A Graphic Tee
I think this combo might become a new fall go-to for me. I love the length of the jacket with the volume of the jeans. It’s chic but casual and feels like an updated silhouette — it’s getting me excited for fall outfits!
The J.Crew jeans I’ve linked look so awesome. I included a few more options for palazzo-style wide-leg jeans below.
2. With Slouchy Trousers & Platform Sneakers
My trick as a shortie to wearing any looser trousers right now is always a platform sneaker. These trousers would make great work pants and I love the sporty combination of pants with sneakers — I plan to find a pair of trousers like this for my fall wardrobe!

Style Notes: Try a puffer bag to tie into the sporty vibe.
3. With A Cream Sweaterdress & Boots
I think a monochromatic base outfit would look super chic under this blazer. Add some fabulous accessories and this could be a warm and really love lovely combination for fall for the office, a conference, or dressed up for dinner out.
Style Notes: I chose a fancy Chloe bag to compliment this look, but if you’re opting for a more affordable choice, this satchel style bag is very cute.
4. With Trendy Loafers & Black Pants
Speaking of office-ready looks, pairing a blouse (that has a collar line that compliments the jacket) with trendy loafers is an easy-to-wear combo that still looks sharp.

Style Notes: Swap in this pair of lug sole loafers from Vagabond (a true favorite of mine) if you need a warmer option.
5. With Black Jeans & Ballet Flats
Mockneck tops and ballet flats are definitely on-trend right now — with a fab pair of MOTHER jeans they become the perfect base outfit for any jacket.
Style Notes: You could even go with brown or black in the tops and flats here. Both would look great.
