Modernize Your Office Style with Loafers

Loafers are the shoes I never knew I needed. They’re one of those trends I initially overlooked, thinking they weren’t really my style. But then? These.

Shiny, blue, with a platform lugged sole…and I started to think maaaaybe I could get on this loafer train.

As far as trends go, this one is pretty practical. I mean, I love my heels, but just thinking of wearing them all day long make my feet hurt. Thankfully, from ballet flats to Mary Janes to mules, flat shoes are everywhere right now, and loafers are my own personal favorites of all of them. They add a bit of polish to any outfit and can easily modernize a basic work uniform (like your classic black pants and a button-up). I love the unexpected vibe they add — especially ones in a unique color or with interesting details.

Elevate Your Biz Casual Office Style With (Edgy-ish) Lug-Sole Loafers

I love the navy of these Franco Sarto platform lug-sole loafers. It gives them a little bit of an edge without being too eye-catching, & the tassels are a fun detail.

Although these Franco Sarto loafers also come in black (and Putty, a pretty cream color), I love the navy. It gives them a little bit of an edge without being too eye-catching, and the tassels are a fun detail. My favorite thing about this particular pair is the platform lugged sole… It gives them a hint of a tough, cool-girl vibe. (Plus, at 5’4″ I always welcome the extra height!)

Complete The Look With Classic Black Pants + A White Button-Up + A Go-To Backpack

I think the loafers pair perfectly with black work pants — and the Perfect Pants from SPANX really do live up to their name. They’re as comfortable as leggings but appropriate for work. They aren’t skintight, and the faux pockets and fly give them more of a polished look. AND they come in regular, petite, plus, petite plus and tall sizes for the perfect fit. (I’m wearing a regular medium here, my usual size, and had to take up the length a bit on bottom, per usual.)

I want to talk about this bag too. I’ve actually had this nylon Tumi backpack for years now, and I’m seriously impressed by how well it’s held up. There are pockets for absolutely everything (including a laptop compartment), so it’s been my go-to daily bag whenever I need to bring my computer somewhere.

There's room for everything I need in this Tumi backpack, & I love the sleek look of the gold details.

The backpack is also great for travel! It easily attaches to suitcases that have a telescopic handle via the sleeve on the back. I’ve taken this on all of my road trips, and it’s the one that came with me on recent flights because it easily fits under the seat in front of me (I hate being that person who holds up the line when boarding a flight, trying to shove bags into spots they won’t fit into). There’s room for everything I need, and I love the sleek look of the gold details. (Ooh, and I’m loving that Beetroot color!)

The fabric of this Open Edit button-up shirt is crisp (& 100% cotton for breathability!). I tuck in the front & fold up the back, & it stays there.

I shared this white button-up top by Open Edit with you guys back in July, and I still think it’s one of my favorite pieces of this year’s Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I’m wearing it untucked and loose in this post, but it also works really well for tucking because the fabric is so crisp (and 100% cotton for breathability!). I tuck in the front and fold up the back, and it stays there. The sleeves are nice and long, so they’re perfect for rolling up without looking sloppy. (I fold the cuff up past the elbow and then fold that in half instead of rolling from the bottom up.)

Like the sneakers that slowly took over my closet, I have a sneaking suspicion that this pair is just the first of many loafers…especially with pairs in such cool colors and with awesome details. (See more favorites below.)
