It’s no secret that I can be a little over the top. (I’m still dying over one of my first posts — a sequin mini dress and faux fur stole, complete with 4″ platform pumps, that was “perfect for postpartum.” 😂 You early readers must have thought I was crazy!) But as I get older, it’s so much fun to just embrace it rather than try to fight it.
Channeling Blanche Devereaux In This Floral Matching Set
At our latest meeting I tried this 3-piece matching set on for the TME ladies. “Is this too much?” I asked. Em was like, “It’s very Blanche Devereaux,” but she meant that in the best way possible, of course. I mean if I had to pick a Golden Girl, it would be Blanche —100%.
Life is short. Embrace your inner Blanche!
The 3-Piece Matching Set Styled Countless Ways
I first fell in love with this pattern. And although I loved all three pieces together, my initial intention wasn’t actually to wear them all together, and I ultimately kept them because each can be worn a number of different ways. Here are a few ideas…
How I’m Wearing Volcom’s ‘Surfbird’ Floral Duster
I love dusters. They’re so versatile. I’ve been wearing them with jeans, with high-rise pants, and I love the way they look with distressed denim shorts. I’d dress down this exact outfit with a graphic tee and sneakers.
Dusters also work as easy cover-ups. This one is super-soft, made from 100% modal, and is washer and dryer friendly. I think this would probably look better with black flip flops, but the Birkenstocks are just so comfy (and waterproof)!
How I’m Wearing Volcom’s ‘That’s My Type’ Floral Camisole
This is the exact type of cami I like to wear in the summer. Loose and lightweight with adjustable straps in a fun pattern that can be dressed up or down. I love the ’70s vibe I get when pairing it with high-rise flares like Good American’s Palazzo jeans (a TME favorite) and wedges.
The cami works great with cropped jeans as well. I love these soft relaxed white jeans from Everlane — it’s so hard to find good white jeans that are cute and not see-through, but these are perfect. Of course, I know I’ll be wearing it with my cropped Levi’s and denim shorts as well. The possibilities are literally endless.
How I’m Wearing Volcom’s ‘Some Thyme’ Floral Print Shorts
These were a little bit harder for me. They’re a higher rise than I typically would wear in shorts that aren’t denim – they, ahem, move with my behind quite a bit when I walk…but my husband LOVED them. 🤷🏼♀️ I wanted to make sure I could wear them outside of the matching set and they easily go with denim jackets (of course), sweatshirts, and my favorite beach sweaters. And they’re perfect for a beach cover-up — with or without the duster! 😂
I love mixing the patterns of the Vans and the floral shorts; these Vans are definitely one of my most-worn pairs of sneakers in the summer (and Zack may or may not have a matching pair…and Shana…and Laura for that matter 😂). I’m doing a review of this half-zip sweatshirt from BP soon (it has matching shorts!), but suffice it to say, I love it! (Also, “fleece” isn’t really how I’d describe it…it’s a lighter fabric made from 100% organic cotton that’s perfect for summer.)
How I’m Wearing Volcom’s Cami & Shorts
Of course just the cami and shorts look good together! I love that it has the same type of look as a dress or romper but in separates. If you’re not much of a duster person, a soft moto like this one works for a look that’s a little less Golden Girl. Oh, and help me decide about these slides! I’ve always wanted a long-leg look and think these do a pretty good job of getting it, but I’m not sure about that material. The heel isn’t too high (2.5″), though, and they stay on really well. Reviewers love them, but I just don’t know if my feet would swell and then get marks on them…thoughts?
