Summer Tops With Interesting Shapes

I recently fell in love with this boxy vest at Saks from brand NSF because of its unique shape. I’m all about cool tops with angled cap sleeves… It gives an edgy vibe with a touch of toughness I feel confident in.

This whole olive-green matching set from NSF is super-cool (find the awesome pants here), but instead of just raving about it by itself, I wanted to see what other interesting tops I could find out there that create unique shapes.

Turns out…there are some rad options for this summer, friends.

Shape Up Your Wardrobe: Unique Tops That Are Easy To Wear

This NSF vest sits away from the body, so it's great for warmer days.

Fit Notes On My Look: The vest is so comfy, and since it sits away from the body, it’s great for warmer days. It does run a little big. I’m wearing a small here, and I’m typically a S/M in tops.

The utility pants have a cool shape, pocket details, and a nice medium-weight fabric giving them structure but keeping them from being too hot. True to size and non-stretch, but the fabric gives just a bit with wear, making them super-comfy!

Tops With Unique Cuts, Organized By Style

This set I have on is amazing, and let me just say that I highly recommend it if you’re looking for a unique top and matching pants, but I typically hate to give just one option for achieving a similar vibe. Cool, structural tops that are still easy to wear are always my vibe, and it was fun to pull all of these together.

We could definitely call these statement tops, but since I’m not a floral- or flowy-top fan, we’re focusing mostly on shape here. These become almost like wearable sculptures in a way, and I think that’s what draws this designer + art-school grad in. I’m so here for it!

1. Sleeveless, Capped Sleeves + Muscle Tees

This style is my jam. I love the sleek, modern aesthetic that these tops give…with that added edge.

2. Crisscross + Wrap-Style Tops

Crisscross and wrap tops work similarly to the angled shapes above, but they present the interesting visuals in almost an opposite way. And some of these are just plain cool.

3. Puff Sleeves, Ruffles + Volume

I definitely wanted to include some voluminous options here because if we’re talking about shape, we can’t ignore that aspect. This category is just made for warmer weather, and these feel flirty and fun without needing to rely on the flowy fabrics I’m not in love with.

The fun thing about finding unique tops like these is that they can work with a variety of pants or skirts or shorts in your wardrobe, whether you want a matching-set look or not.

I hope I’ve offered some ideas for adding these interesting shapes to your own closet! Until next time…

Cool, structured tops that are easy to wear are *my vibe.* Crisscross halters, puff- & cap-sleeve shirts, wrap blouses...but w/ a li'l edge? I got you, friends.
