Chocolate, camel, rust, gold, wine and, of course, black: the colors of autumn. A curve-hugging knit dress in one of these harvest colors that lends itself to being layered under your coziest sweater (or shacket) and paired with your favorite pair of boots is just the ticket.
One budget-friendly find I love is this walnut-brown ribbed midi sweater dress from Amazon’s The Drop. Perfect to wear with sandals during the summer, but now that the seasons have started to turn, I’m wearing this tank dress with Frye’s equestrian-inspired boots, a cream-colored fleece shacket, and chunky (and affordable) gold-plated hoop earrings, plus my Portland Leather saddle bag.
Simple, cozy and chic.
A Cute Fall Outfit Perfect For Apple Picking, Ft. A Rib-Knit Midi Sweater Dress

A tip on sizing is to size down — this fall midi dress runs large. I also decided to size down because I wanted a more body-conscious look. I would recommend trying one size down from your normal size and see if you like the fit.

Personally, I like this look, and if you’re a curvy girl, I’m telling you: Wear the dress. There were way too many years of my life when I wouldn’t have worn something this curve-hugging, no matter what my size was. But here I am at 40, having fully divorced myself from diet culture, and wearing the dress. Join me, friends.

The Colors Of Autumn: A Cream Shacket, Leather Boots, Warm-Tone Accessories
I couldn’t believe how soft, chic and budget-friendly this shacket was when I was picking up avocados and sparkling water at Costco. If you’re a member, run, don’t walk. If you’re not a member, no worries — shackets are still on-trend for this year, and there are a ton of great options. Like this fleece one from Good American.

With the creamy warmth of the shacket, the golden warmth of the leather boots and bag, and the deep warmth of the chocolate-colored dress, I had to pull out some gold-tone jewelry to accessorize. The hoop earrings are a new addition to my jewelry box and an absolute steal. I can’t stop wearing this chunky style.
The link necklace is from Madewell, and while the exact style is no longer available, there are really cute similar styles at Nordstrom. To top it off, I couldn’t resist using Too Faced’s Melted Matte Pumpkin Spice Latte lipstick topped with my favorite Tower 28 ShineOn Jelly Gloss in Cashew.

I love to play with a gradient color palette. This cream/caramel/chocolate combination is giving me all the apple-picking, football-game-watching vibes that I love to cultivate in fall. I also can’t say enough good things about my beloved tall Frye boots (these are close), which are the most expensive part of this otherwise budget-friendly outfit.
However, I’ve had these riding boots for years, and they’re still going strong. So much so an 80-something-year-old gentleman who looked like he knows his way around a ranch stated succinctly and firmly, “Nice boots,” as he walked by me, and I think it’s my hands-down favorite fashion compliment I’ve ever received. Absolutely worth the investment in my opinion.
