Fall Vibes: What I’m Wearing this Weekend

This post is sponsored by Nordstrom & Collective Voice.

If I were to pick out my “typical” daily fall uniform, it would consist of something like warm, comfy boots (bonus points if they’re waterproof!), cropped jeans (with a hint of stretch), an oversized, cozy sweater, and a long, light jacket to layer on top of it all. Which makes the combination I’m wearing below a pretty spot-on example of my ideal fall outfit.

How I Build A Cute Fall Outfit That’s Also Super Practical

These Sorel boots are waterproof. Just add these go-with-everything cropped jeans.

This look embodies the essence of autumn with its earthy tones, and I love the unexpectedness of the light grey jeans with the green jacket and camel colors. And while the individual pieces are super practical for colder, wet weather, there’s also something about the way they come together that exudes the perfect fall vibe—a mix of comfort, warmth and style.

1. Start With Waterproof Boots & Cropped Jeans

If my feet are cold or wet I am not going to be comfortable, so it all starts with the boots. I recently tried on a TON of waterproof boots and these Sorel boots were far and away my favorites. I should have guessed because I’ve loved Sorels for years…like since I was a little kid (and I buy them for my kids now as well!). They’re always super comfortable and warm and I love that these are also waterproof. They come in a number of different colors (I was torn between these and the lighter beige), and the lug sole and higher shaft make them perfect to pair with cropped jeans.

The jeans have an 11" rise + the cropped leg opening means they fit over almost all of my boots (even the taller ones).

These jeans were one of my favorites this summer and they’re perfect for transitioning into cooler weather. I love the fabric — made from mostly cotton, but also has Lyocell and elastane for a hint of stretch and softness. The 11″ rise is the perfect mid-to-high range and the leg opening means they fit over almost all of my boots (even the taller ones). The color is probably my favorite, though — the charcoal grey goes with everything.

2. Add A Cozy, Oversized Sweater

No one does oversized cozy sweaters like Free People does.

No one does oversized cozy sweaters like Free People. I want to live in them every year when the weather gets colder. I love them with everything from jeans to leggings to tall boots and tights, and this one is especially soft and cozy. It feels like wearing a blanket (in a good way)! It runs big — I’m wearing a small here and it’s obviously oversized in length and overall fit. (I could size down to an XS, but I like the way the S fits.)

3. Finish With A Lightweight Jacket

This fall jacket is a lightweight top layer shell that's perfect to throw on over anything.

My mom and I both loved this jacket the minute we tried it on… and we both ended up buying it. I was actually surprised by some of the negative reviews, but I think most of them stem from a misunderstanding of what this jacket actually is. It’s not a heavy duty, waterproof-and-windproof, protect-you-from-all-the-elements kind of rain jacket. It’s a super lightweight, comfortable top layer shell that’s perfect to throw on over anything from leggings and a tank when running to the gym or sweaters and jeans when the weather is iffy.

I especially love that this jacket has
 a detachable (quilted) hood.

I love the longer length and all of the pockets, and I especially love that there’s a detachable (quilted) hood. Sometimes I wear just the jacket without the hood, but when it’s drizzling I like adding it to throw on over my hair.

This jacket does run a bit big, but I actually sized up because I liked the oversized look.

The jacket does run a bit big, but I actually sized up because I liked the oversized look (and the fact that it would fit over big cozy sweater!) while mom stuck with her usual XS.

Bonus: Thin Winter Socks

Finally…these socks. They’re made from a cashmere-cotton blend that’s oh-so soft. I bought them because of the reviews (“cashmere dream,” yes please!). They’re thinner than I was expecting, which actually makes them perfect to wear with my Uggs (I usually don’t wear socks with Uggs) and dressier boots. They might be perfect to layer under heels, too! (In the colder months, I’ll probably wear my Sorels with thicker socks like these…but keeping these thinner ones for other shoes!)
