Splurge vs. Steal: Kut From The Kloth & AG Jeans

I recently ordered two pairs of jeans that are almost identical. One is a splurge at over $200 and one is a steal at under $90. And aside from a few key differences, they could almost pass for the same pair of jeans. That’s how similar they look.

Both have that perfect light wash and simple distressing that works so well for spring and summer. But let’s talk true differences below…because we LOVE to debunk some denim.

Kut From The Kloth Crop Straight Leg Jeans vs. AG Ex-Boyfriend Slim Fit Jeans

The pair on the left is 1/4″ shorter in the leg and one inch higher in rise in the front and 1.5″ higher in the back than the pair on the right. The length doesn’t really make that much difference, but the rise does: if you like a bit of a higher rise, the Kut From The Kloth jeans (left) are better, but if you like more of a mid-rise, the AG jeans are the way to go.

The other big difference between the two is the fabric composition. The Kut From The Kloth (left) is made from 93% cotton, 6% polyester and 1% spandex, while the AG jeans (right) are 98% cotton and 2% polyurethane. The Kut from the Kloth denim is stretchier and just a touch softer while the AG jeans have more of a rigid feel. Both are soft and comfy, but the extra cotton in the AG means they have a bit less give.

The Steal: Kut From The Kloth High-Waist Crop Straight-Leg Jeans ($89)

One is a splurge at over $200 & one is a steal at under $90. Both have that perfect light wash + simple distressing that works so well for spring and summer.

My favorites are the Kut From The Kloth jeans. I like having just a bit of a higher rise (although these weren’t crazy high like some high-waist jeans) and the stretch is so comfortable and soft. There’s no muffin top or breaking-in time at all with these.

I am 100% obsessed with this top, by the way. The back is open with two ties (one on top and one around the waist) and it would look good with either no bra or a lacy bralette.

Splurge: AG Ex-Boyfriend Distressed Slim Jeans ($225)

One is a splurge at over $200 & one is a steal at under $90. Both have that perfect light wash + simple distressing that works so well for spring and summer.

I really did like the AG jeans, but once I saw the two in photos next to each other, it didn’t make sense to keep both. The AG’s hve more of a rigid feel and the lower rise isn’t really doing my butt many favors. (And for over $200 I want the jeans to be amazing.)

Both Jeans With Heels

The fact that both pairs of jeans work with flats, wedges and heels is nothing short of amazing to me. (They’ll both look great with sock boots once it gets colder, too.)

These pictures probably do the best job of showing the difference in the rise from the front and side. You can see how the Kut From The Kloth jeans come up over my entire butt, while the AGs kind of stop just short. It’s like the Kut From The Kloth pair were making the most of my curves while the AGs kind of minimizes them. It really comes down to which one is best for your body!
