There’s an outfit I’ve been wearing on repeat for the last several months. Most of it has been hidden away under layers of sweaters, hats, mittens and scarves, but I’m now realizing that if I strip it down to its basic components…this outfit makes transitioning to spring pretty darn easy.
My Early Spring Outfit: Bodysuit, Baggy Wide-Leg Jeans + Sorel Wedges
Loose, wide-leg jeans are a particular favorite of mine, as is this (surprisingly technical and hard-working) SAM jacket in sherpa. This jacket, of course, sold out almost immediately this fall, but I noticed that Saks has recently re-stocked it (and there’s currently a 20% off code, FORYOU, until Sunday). Highly recommend.
But the real winner here is the combination of loose fitting jeans (especially jeans with a wider leg) paired with a bodysuit. I had somehow forgotten that bodysuits don’t have to be skin-tight, and this looser version manages to walk the line of looking put-together while maintaining high levels of comfort.
This outfit fits my personal style perfectly: the jeans are slouchy and boyish, while the top is a liiiiiitle sexy (and yes…I’m wearing a bra with it, a pretty lace one, similar to this).
I love outfits that keep ’em guessing: Are you dressed up? Nah.
psst! You can’t see in these pics, but I am wearing earrings: my favorite, suuuuper lightweight hoops. Proof that I’m dressed up.
Anyway, the reason that I love this outfit for the shoulder seasons (spring, especially) is because footwear is not the star of the show. Late winter and early spring — with all of the mud and slush one day, or surprisingly icy sidewalks the next — can be really hard on footwear. These jeans just take the emphasis (and therefore the pressure) off of “good” shoes, making it reallllly easy to dress for whatever the weather.
I know what you’re thinking: yup, these jeans will drag on the ground, just a little bit. I don’t care. I did it back in the early aughts, I’m happy to do it again. Sometimes I do cuff these jeans (like here), but lately I’ve found that I like them a little slouchy. Feels fresh and modern (and works great with my tired old Sorel wedges).
Cute Bodysuits To Wear This Spring
Below is a short list of bodysuits I’d happily wear now and into spring. I tend to stick with looser options (I end up getting more use out of them), but I did find a few tighter bodysuits that could stand on their own now, or be great for layering when it’s really cold.
Baggy Wide-Leg Jeans
I’ve rounded up my favorite pairs of loose, wide-leg jeans, below. I’ve already tried many of them on — check out the article, Tried: 9 Pairs of Baggy, Loose Fit Jeans, if interested in more try-on photos. Also, Scotti tried on those rag&bone Miramar printed jeans, if you’re curious about those. Lastly, if you’ve been eyeing up those AGOLDE 90s Fit Jeans, not only are they in the try-on article I linked, but you can also see them on Scotti, Amy and Laura (scroll down).
In the time it took me to write this article, we went from 50+ degrees outside…to 2 inches of snow (and still falling). Hello, transition season!
