If 2020 was my Year of Stupid Pants, 2021 is definitely my year of Quirky Sweaters. After months and months of varying degrees of lockdown and social distancing…the rules of fashion have gone out the window. Wear what makes you happy! Anything goes, meaning sparkle dusters, flare jeans, and, in my case, a very haughty zebra sweater.
10 Quirky Graphic Sweaters To Brighten Up Your Fall & Winter
What is a quirky sweater? It’s a sweater that makes you do a double-take. It’s appealing, if not a tad unusual. And this quirk is out in full force this year. Disgruntled zebras, bulldogs, monstera leaves, mushrooms….you name it, there’s a sweater that has it. Here’s a roundup of 10 Quirky Sweaters I found whilst cruising the Internet Highway.
1| Maeve Zebra Cashmere Sweater from Anthropologie
Disgruntled zebra on a mustard-colored cashmere sweater? Sign. Me. Up. I couldn’t resist this Maeve Zebra Cashmere Sweater when I saw it online. It’s an entire mood. That zebra is channeling the way I’ve felt for most of this year. (Also available in a gorgeous royal blue.)
2| Frog Sweater from Anthropologie
Aptly named “Frog Sweater” is giving me a total vibe of “those frogs your mom ordered through a catalog that grew, hatched and died within six months, unless you were the across-the-street neighbors in which case your two frogs lived for TWENTY-TWO YEARS.” Anyway that took a turn. Love this sweater, love how it’s styled with a collared shirt underneath. Quirky prep-chic.
3| Matilda Blouson Sleeve Dachshund Sweater from Boden
Clearly on an animal kick right now. This is one of two Boden Matilda Blouson Sleeve Sweaters on the list because I legit couldn’t decide. Featuring (hu)man’s best friend, love how the pink pops against the purple. Supes cute.
4| Zoey Intarsia Flower Sweater from Nordstrom
Flower power! This Flower Sweater by Rails is subtly quirky with enough cheer to get you through those dreary gray winter days.
5| Cross-Stitched Fruit Sweatshirt from Anthropologie
OK, technically a sweatshirt, but what is a sweatshirt if not a sweater sans hoodie? And this doesn’t even have a hood, so there. I’m obsessed with this Cross-Stitched Fruit “Sweatshirt.” I grew up watching my mom cross-stitch…in fact I might get one for my mom (we’re about to find out if she reads this blog). And, omg, there are matching joggers (sorry, not sorry).
6| Green Monstera Hearts Sweater from Farm Rio
If you follow me on IG you know I’m now a proud mother of a Monstera named Mike. He’s a delicious boy and I can’t help but think I need this Green Monstera sweater from Farm Rio in his honor. It’s so dang quirky and I’m low-key obsessed.
7| Matilda Blouson Sleeve Bulldog Sweater from Boden
The second pick from Boden, this Matilda Blouson Sleeve Sweater features two Bulldogs (I’m convinced they are Frenchies). This is a more understated pick, but still adorable.
8| BDG Marri Geo Jacquard Ski Sweater from Urban Outfitters
I’m convinced Tai’s love interest in Clueless wore a version of this sweater. The BDG Marri Geo Jacquard Ski Sweater is a whole mood. I love the geometric patterns and oversized fit. Slopes (or Sunday’s on the couch) ready.
9| Pilcro Mushroom Cashmere Sweater from Anthropologie
Anthro has really cornered the market on quirky sweaters this season, and this Pilcro Mushroom Cashmere Sweater is no exception. You could pick up the colors of the mushrooms through accessories or a lively pair of pants or a skirt.
10| Relaxed Sweater in Shrimp Knit from ASOS
Who you calling a shrimp? This Shrimp Knit Sweater from ASOS is absolutely delightful, from the baby blue background to the cute crustacean in the middle. It’s also an under $60 quirky sweater option.
Quirky sweaters are a great way to jazz up an outfit and bring some sunshine to those long winter days. They’re an excellent example of how fashion can totally be fun and joyful and rule-breaking. Rules, who needs ’em anyway? I’ll just be sitting pretty in all my disgruntled zebra glory.

OMG a shrimp sweater?! Love!
RIGHT!?!? It’s so cute.
Love the boots but the links take us to the sweater instead. Can you let me know which boots these are? They look great on you.
So sorry about that! It’s fixed now. Here is the updated link: https://shopstyle.it/l/byMk7
Haaa, Meredith, your writing is so delightful, and so is this quirky sweater roundup. I don’t think I’m a quirky sweater kind of woman, but *maybe* I’m a disgruntled-zebra-on-mustard kind of woman.
Thank you so much! I appreciate it. Hey, ya never know till you try 🙂
