I guess it’s safe to say summer is coming to an end pretty soon. Okay, yes it’s still August. But personally, I’m very excited about the cooler weather, fall clothes, and all the autumn candles. Sorry to burst the bubble of all you lovers of summer.
With that, comes the confusing weather. I was down the shore recently, and one day I was freezing in sweats and sweatshirts, the next I was pretty sure I would pass out from heat exhaustion. And then throw in the mix that I’m hungry for the refresh of fall fashion, and here I am with some end-of-summer outfit ideas.
End-of-Summer & Early Fall Outfit Ideas
So, here are ways to dress for weird, in-between temps, and a mix of fall and summer silhouettes/colors for anyone who’s just…over it – the heat, the shorts, the sweat. I did a little “choose your vibe” for each outfit (primarily due to my indecisiveness and love for accessorizing).
Outfit 1. Pop On A Button-Up
One of the go-to ways I dress for those days where I don’t need a full jacket, but might want to keep my shoulders covered — a button-up. It’s lightweight and flowy so it still works for that lingering summer heat. If it’s not too hot I’d go for the cowboy booties, but otherwise, Birks are a great summer-to-fall shoe. And something about black, white and taupe…I love.

Outfit 2. Summer Dresses + Tall Boots (Bring A Sweater)
This is the type of outfit I’d wear to a restaurant or indoor spot where I just know that the AC will be on full blast. It’s also a great way to wear your summertime dresses in the fall. There are two ways I’d go — a mini dress, knee-high boots and a longer sweater or I’d go with a longer dress, tall boots and a cropped sweater. Really though, I think you can totally mix and match. And if it’s too hot for the full sweater? I usually wrap it around my shoulders to stay the perfect temp. Still adds a little somethin’ that says fall.

Outfit 3: Go Monochromatic In Light Shades
I’ll forever love a monochromatic outfit, especially for fall and winter so naturally I had to include at least one. Usually, I’m a big advocate for all-black-everything outfits. But taking summer heat into consideration, I like how an all-white moment gives the same chic effect without absorbing the sun so much. I’d either go with a white tee (I kinda prefer the bodysuit for easy tucking) or a cream-colored knit top with white/cream jeans.

Outfit 4: Try A Knit Tank
If you’ve followed any of my posts this summer, you might know I’ve been looking at all. the. knit. tops. Like all of them. I actually wore a good number of them this summer and it felt like the perfect way for me to bring in the fall sweater fabrics I love without overheating. (And this comes from someone who overheats easily). I’d either pair it with a light-wash denim skirt or darker blue-wash jeans. (Those jeans from Everlane are the perfect fall blue).

Outfit 5: Style With Dark Accessories
The easiest way you can bring the feeling of fall into the rest of this summertime heat is with dark accessories. Keep the outfit cooling with a skirt, tee or tank. Then pair it with black leather, gold accents or maybe even a pop of red.
