Express Dressing Room Selfies: Embracing Color For Spring

My favorite thing about Express’ new spring line? The COLOR. I recently had a color consultation with TME’s own Julieta and I’m not exaggerating when I say it was life-changing. I’ve never really been one for much color in my wardrobe. My closet is full – FULL – of blacks and allllll shades of grey with very little color. (Ok, mayyyybe a bit of tan.)

Looking back at my posts, I’m almost always in black and grey. I mean, my big color idea for spring was creamy whites with true blue jeans – a combination that I love, but not exactly the cutting edge of color inspiration.

Express Has All the Color for Spring 2022

My favorite thing about Express' new spring line? The COLOR. Bright, bold, look-at-me colors, vivid neons, & pretty pastels to mix & match for spring.

Which brings me to Express’ new spring line. Walking into the store alone just made me happy – the colors are SO perfect. Bright, bold, look-at-me colors, vivid neons, pretty pastels, all of which I would normally pass up for more black – but not this time (thanks, Julieta!). I’m happy to report that I did not purchase ONE item that was black or grey. Maybe for the first time…ever?

My Unexpected Favorite Color: Bonfire

My favorite color was bonfire, this bright red-orange color. There were so many pieces to mix and match that all worked seamlessly together for a number of different monochromatic looks.

1. Double Breasted Blazer

I love the strong shoulders on this blazer! And usually, if a blazer looks good open on me, it doesn’t also look good buttoned – but I think in this case it works!

2. Super High Waisted Cropped Straight Pants

I love the neckline on this cami/cardigan duo. They work separately and together, equally as well with pants or a skirt.

pants (m) | cami (m) | cardigan (s)

The pants are stretchy and have a high rise – high enough that I could wear a crop top without being afraid of showing too much skin.

I love the neckline on this cami/cardigan duo. (There’s also a matching high-neck tank if you want to show less skin, and the model is wearing the cardigan alone if you want to show more – but I’ll stick with my cami.) They work separately and together, equally as well with pants or a skirt.

3. Body Contour Sweater Pencil Skirt

This skirt is insanely comfortable and also comes in petite sizes. I was also loving it with more dramatic tops in that same red hot hue.

This skirt is insanely comfortable and also comes in petite sizes. (And if you buy the cardigan and skirt together, you get the cami free.) I was also loving it with more dramatic tops in that same red hot hue. (The puff sleeves on the left sold me and the one on the right is actually a bodysuit – with an unexpected open back.)

Shockingly Good Pastels

After checking out the power pastel outfits on Express’s website, I wanted them all. They aren’t the super girly kinds of outfits that come to mind when you think “spring pastels,” but bold, structured pieces that are more badass than sweet.

1. Monochromatic Lilac

I love the matching ruffle top and skirt (that can be mixed and matched), but even a basic top and shorts look updated in this hue.

I’m loving purple right now – lilac, lavender, periwinkle, whatever you call it, it’s surprisingly versatile and just so…pretty. I love the matching ruffle top and skirt (that can be mixed and matched), but even a basic top and shorts look updated in this hue.

2. Mix & Match Mint

I love the high rise on these pants - like the red pants above, they're high enough to wear with crop tops (I do hate having to tuck extra fabric into pants like this).

I love the high rise on these pants – like the red pants above, they’re high enough to wear with crop tops (I do hate having to tuck extra fabric into pants like this). But unlike the red pants, these come in petite and short sizes – so although the 6 regular below is too long for me, the 6 short would be perfect. Unfortunately, they only had an xl in the blazer in store, but I tried it on anyway – just to get the idea!

*Both the pants and blazer (and that that lace cami, actually) also come in lilac purple – I’m kind of loving the mint and the purple together!

3. This Coral, Knit Oversized Blazer

This flannel knit blazer is incredibly soft and I LOVE the color. It would be a perfect alternative for a cardigan for work - especially in cold air-conditioned offices.

This flannel knit blazer is incredibly soft and I LOVE the color (it’s much more vibrant in person than it looks in the photos on their site). It would be a perfect alternative for a cardigan for work – especially in cold air-conditioned offices. Unfortunately, they didn’t have my size in store (I’m wearing an xs here which pulls across my hips a little too much), but it’s fully in stock online! (And those strong shoulders are everything.)

4. A Little (Or A Lot) Of Yellow

Yellow is one of my colors, so I'm definitely trying to add more of it to my wardrobe - either in little doses or full-on COLOR. I love the puff sleeves - they help to balance out a wider lower half. I'm going to wear this one with high-rise wide leg and flare jeans.

I love the color of this dress, but I don’t think it fit correctly (especially after seeing it on the model 😍). It comes in petite sizes, though, so I think that would work much better – the slit on the model was much sexier.

A New Neutral: Puritan Gray

I had no idea this color was called gray until I looked it up online. I feel like it’s more of a soft mint or sage green…but in any case, these pieces are insanely soft and comfortable. They’re super easy to mix and match for different looks – perfect for work or travel. (And each of these pieces come in lilac if you’re still feeling that purple color!)

I love these two pieces together. The fabric is soft and stretchy so it feels like wearing loungewear but still shows shape. Oh, and I recently came across this button styling trick on Instagram (@conveythemoment has some amazing styling hacks) that makes cardigans look so good! Just loop the buttons into non-corresponding holes to nip it in a bit at the waist, shorten the length, and create those cool folds. Genius!

2. Double-Breasted Sweater Blazer

This double-breasted blazer is basically the softest one I've ever felt - looks like a blazer, feels like a sweater. I love the layering options and the structure.
