When I hear the word “fall,” I think of a few things:

Hot apple cider, binge-watching “Gilmore Girls,” color drives (a term we use here when we literally take scenic drives to view the changing leaves), and pulling out my favorite fleece layers.

Fleece jackets, in particular, are a fall wardrobe staple for me.

Once the temps begin to cool off, I throw on a cozy fleece with any and every outfit. They’re casual, comfortable, and the sporty alternative to other cold-weather fabrics.

And casual + comfortable + sporty? Just so happen to be my go-to style words.

My Go-To For Fall Fleece & Sherpa Jackets? Backcountry

Backcountry has begun to roll out its fall and winter apparel, and when I took a look at the fleece options, I actually became a little giddy

Backcountry has so many fleece jackets that not only look cozy but incredibly unique. Gone are the days where we all wear the same fitted, rectangle fleece. Now, there are multitudes of styles to choose from based on our individual style preferences (which I LOVE).

Backcountry has begun to roll out its fall/winter apparel, & when I took a look at the fleece-jacket options, I became a little giddy.

I personally scooped up Backcountry’s GOAT Fleece ½-Zip Hoodie and the Basin and Range Sherpa Jacket. Both are equally comfortable but with entirely different shapes and purposes.

Backcountry GOAT Fleece ½-Zip Pullover Hoodie

Listen, when I ordered this delicious hoodie, there was only one color. Now that I see they have added new options, I’m simply tempted to snap up shade Fossil. I mean, how gorgeous are these shades for the new season?!

GOAT fleece, exclusive to Backcountry, is soft yet structured, & the inside is lined with a cozy polar fleece to keep you warm on blustery days.

GOAT fleece is exclusive to Backcountry. The fleece is soft yet structured, and the inside is lined with an amazingly cozy polar fleece to keep you warm on blustery days.

I was immediately obsessed with the shape of Backcountry’s GOAT pullover hoodie. The design is cropped and relaxed, perfect for both high-rise leggings and jeans, or even to throw over a bodysuit (my personal preference).

The hood is actually big enough to throw over my extra-large skull, and it stays up while hiking (all must-haves when finding a perfect fall layer).

I'm wearing an M, & the Backcountry fleece hoodie is the perfect amount of relaxed with long enough arms for my 5’9” body (they are even a bit slouchy which I ADORE).

Fit Notes: I’m wearing a size medium, my true size, and the hoodie is the perfect amount of relaxed with long enough arms for my 5’9” body (they are even a bit slouchy which I ADORE).

Basin & Range Mixed-Fabric Sherpa Jacket

Basin and Range is a brand that’s always doing it right. It mixes interesting colors, creates on-trend shapes that easily become classics, and often leans oversized in fit, which is my personal favorite.

I was drawn to the striking color combo of the Basin & Range sherpa jacket, & while I almost chose the more neutral option, I decided to try this brown-&-blue mix.

The sherpa jacket is no exception to all of the above. I was drawn to the striking color combos, and while I almost chose the more neutral option (Bog/Fennel Seed/Meteorite), I decided to be a little more adventurous and try this brown-and-blue mix.

While some fleece can act as an all-day layer, much like a sweatshirt, the Basin and Range fleece is truly a perfect jacket. This is the finishing touch to a cute outfit for the brewery, for picking up pumpkins at the farm, or for running any errand when it’s chilly outside.

Since I knew Basin & Range runs larger, I chose an M in this sherpa jacket, & it still fits perfectly oversized.

Fit Notes: I often switch between mediums and larges, especially in jackets. Since I knew Basin and Range runs larger, I chose a medium in this jacket, and it still fits perfectly oversized.

Don’t Forget The Shoes: HOKA Sneakers Are A Favorite

I would be remiss to not give a shoutout to these sneakers. HOKA has become a top favorite of mine over the past year, and its Bondi 8 shoe are so good.

The HOKA Bondi 8s are the perfect sneakers for wide feet. They have max cushion for my daily walks & are ultra-light + breathable.

This is the perfect sneaker for wide feet. They have max cushion for my daily walks, are ultra-light and breathable and, um, the color?! Honestly the main reason I bought them (the unbeatable comfort was just a bonus, *chuckle*).

Fit Notes: I wear both 9.5 and 10 in shoes, but I definitely go with a 9.5 in all Hokas. If in between sizes like me, size down.

Fall and fleece go together like pumpkin and spice, like apples and pie, like Lorelai and Luke. They’re just the perfect match!
