There’s something refreshing about the month of September (at least I think so). Amidst all the back-to-school chaos and maybe some summertime blues, it’s hard to deny that something about this month feels like a fresh start. Maybe I’m just talking wardrobe refreshes here, but I for one am so ready.
With the weather being completely unpredictable most days (making dressing a tad bit difficult), we made five Nordstrom looks to inspire your September wardrobe. You might be familiar with these as Abby — the queen of fun, colorful looks — makes them weekly for our newsletter, Instagram and Likeshop.
Fall Outfit Inspo: 5 Cute Looks, All From Nordstrom
I’d say we’re mostly leaning into fall with all of these looks, but take off the top layers for most, and it’ll work for the rest of the hot summer days. Like these cargo pants would look so good with this collared sweater by Topshop, but they’re just as cute with a simple tee too.
1. The Best Summer-To-Fall Pants: Cargos
Cargo pants have kiiinda taken over this year, and there’s no doubt it’ll be a continuing trend for fall. If you’re not used to wearing super-baggy pants, these Treasure & Bond cargos are the perfect balance. (Here’s some cargos in extended sizing, too). Pop on a simple tee, and if it’s chilly enough, add this cozy collared sweater. It’s so good. I’ve been debating purchasing it for weeks. And if you haven’t yet gotten your hands on a pair of small, chunky gold hoops, I swear it’s outfit-changing. Just pulls the whole look together.

2. A Little Model-Off-Duty: A Cropped Blazer + Jeans
Cropped blazers are another huge trend for fall. It toes the line between corporate and casual in the best way. With the baggy-pants trend rising, I’ve found that cropped jackets and blazers pair with them best (especially for my short frame). There are so many things you could wear under, but I’m loving the way Madewell styles it with a cropped hoodie. That, paired with some sleek booties and straight-leg jeans? Oh, yeah — we’re so model-off-duty and just threw this little number on. Totally not trying.
3. For The Summer Lovers: A Fun Sweater
OK, summer lovers, this one’s for you. If you love the colors of summer, bring ’em into the fall with a fun sweater. This ombré sweater from rag & bone is so cool (definitely check it out in the purple colorway too). Keep the rest simple with some jean shorts and a white tee. If it gets too hot for a full-on sweater, wrap the sweater around your shoulders to keep that pop of color. That checkered Clare V. bag helps too.
4. Comfy Classics, Elevated: Chic Athleisure
I firmly believe you can look chic and put-together even in lounge and activewear. One thing I’ve found that helps is a pair of wide-leg sweats (giving less sweatpants and more pants) and a simple, cream-colored hoodie. As for what’s under? That Vuori tank has the perfect neckline, and the double straps make it just a bit more interesting than a normal tank. (Comes in multiple colors too). Also — can we take a moment for the Veja sneakers? Those colors are perfect for fall.
5. Girls Night Out: Leopard Print + A Leather Bag
We got a little funky with this one, but how fun?! I’ve been seeing a bunch of long, printed silk dresses, and I’m in love. I’m still on the animal-print bandwagon, and I don’t think that’ll ever change. (Updates to come.) Pairing a sexy silk dress with a utility-style jacket adds in a little badassery (Is that a word? I might use it more). Pop on some black heels, a leather clutch, cool gold jewelry and an effortless lip for a night out with the gals.
Hope you guys are feeling inspired for September!
