When I truly wear something over and over, I know it’s a closet piece worth covering here.
My most-worn coat this fall and winter has been my beloved camel coat. It is a game-changer and magically goes with everything I try. It dresses up really casual looks and warms up all the black I like to wear. It looks just as good over a sweatsuit as it does over a dress. It’s become a real go-to.
Camel Coats: My Top Picks
I’ve been wanting to cover my exact coat for a while (Halogen brand from Nordstrom) but sadly, it sold out long ago. There are a few very similar options out there, though, (ooh like this one from Abercrombie or this one from Banana Republic) but they do tend to sell out quickly.
So, I’ve picked out those that I think are really worth it, and linked them here. I’ve done a more extensive roundup at the end of the article, too, but the ones featured here are my favorites. You can also typically find a great selection of camel coats at eBay.
8 Outfit Ideas Featuring A Wool Camel Coat
Below are a few of the (many) ways I’ve been wearing my camel coat. True to form, most of these outfits are pretty casual (jeans, usually), but I have worn this camel coat on dressier occasions as well — even with an actual dress. Whether heading out for school drop-off, running errands, or actually going out somewhere fun, this is usually the coat I’m wearing.

1. Camel Coat + Jeans, A Bright Tee & Sneakers
This was my most recent outfit combo and I love it. I jumped on board recently with the Very Peri Pantone Color of the Year trend by snagging this Clare V tee. While I’m typically a chick who wears mostly neutrals, I’m loving this for a bright pop right now.

2. Camel Coat + Jeans, A Track Jacket & High-Tops
This outfit I put together the other day…for school pick-up. Did we go anywhere else? No. Haha. But I love how it came together and plan on a repeat soon. It’s hard to see but I’m wearing my Adidas Track Jacket underneath, and I’m a sucker for layering slightly unexpected things. The zipped-up neck of the jacket looks great under the coat. Also, new favorite bag ever from Baggu. It’s the perfect size!

3. Camel Coat + Jeans, A Vest & A Blouse
You may have peeked at this look from our What We’re Wearing to Thanksgiving post last fall. I’m still adoring this layered up look with the rust and camel shades. Would totally wear this to a meeting, brunch or dinner out. And still loving all the pieces. The jeans I’ve linked up are the same cut, just a bit different wash. (Here is a similar sweater vest…this one sold out at Anthropologie.)

4. Camel Coat + Coated Joggers & A Half-Zip Sweater
This is one of my favorite looks. It works for chilly days or even bad weather (those are waterproof boots AND coated joggers) but also looks fairly chic and ready for a variety of occasions. I can’t get over my love for zip-up sweaters (as seen here).

5. Camel Coat + All Black & White Boots
A camel coat over all black would be easy enough and cute, but I love the pop the white boots add to this neutral look. These boots have been a real favorite this past season and worth the investment. My cost-per-wear is already low. They just offer a fresh look to every outfit I pair them with.

6. Camel Coat + Black Pants, A Striped Button Down & Flats
This is a great look potentially for the office…or for a wine tasting lunch like I wore it to last fall. That was such a treat. I love living near Willamette Valley where amazing Pinot Noir is just 45 minutes away. But I digress…I love this easy but polished look.

7. Camel Coat + A White Tee, Cargo Pants & Clogs
This might be one of my most unique combos here, but I have worn it a handful of times on slightly warmer days. This is my running errands look because I hate being too hot in stores.
So, I have my fav white tee on, and then the coat adds warmth without bulk and structure to the slouchy cargos. The clogs add nice height without being uncomfortable. Here’s another pair of clogs I love, too, with soft leather and a cute buckle detail.

8. Camel Coat + A Midi Dress & Knee-High Boots
I wore a similar look to an outdoor wedding last fall and it was perfect. It was early October but on a nice sunny afternoon-into-evening, so the dress and boots worked well until dark when the coat warmed it up.
Camel magically goes with both warm and cooler shades but this deep red and brown just pair so beautifully with the warm tan. My exact dress is linked below and still available in bright red. If you’re looking for a gorgeous deep red option, this one from Banana is really lovely.

Shop Camel Coats
As I mentioned, these rarely stay in stock. I always keep an eye out for them though and will keep this shopping widget updated with my finds! My top pick right now is the one from Banana Republic. They make really lovely coats.
If you have a favorite camel coat still in stock do let us know in the comments, friends. Ah, and I forgot to mention, I love that mine is unlined so it’s a little more wearable across a few seasons.
If you have been wanting to add a camel coat to your closet, I hope this has been helpful to give you a few ideas on ways to style it up. I can say it really does fill a gap in my wardrobe I didn’t even know I had. Such a great piece!
