Sweater Dress, But Make It 2021 (Hint: Add This Epic Shacket)

My love for sweater dresses runs deep. In fact, one of my very first articles was about styling a sweater dress multiple ways. They’re just so ridiculously easy: comfortable and chic, easy to dress up or down, and work for everything from running errands to a night out.

I’ve been wearing sweater dresses for so long that I was looking for a fresh way to style them this year. Something different from my go-to, over-the-knee boots (although I regularly still rock that look, don’t get me wrong).

A Sweater Dress Outfit Update With ’90s-Style Vibes: Add A Plaid Shacket & Platform Boots

The pieces that made the difference this time around? A plaid shacket and platform boots. And the best part? This gorgeous shacket kept selling out…but JUST came back into stock at Social Threads. Woot!

The Tailored Plaid Shacket

This plaid shacket is sooo good, you guys. The cuffs on the sleeves make all the difference. Usually, shackets look weirdly oversized and way too long in the arms on me, adding volume everywhere. The tighter cuffs give this one shape and help it look a little more tailored.

I love that you can wear this shacket with mostly blacks OR browns, and it works either way. I also love the way the collar stands up without being totally in your face, and the pockets are cut in a way that doesn’t add extra bulk to the hips. Oh, and it’s warm. It’s pretty much the perfect shacket for cooler temps (and layers under a puffer for really cold winters!). This outfit is fancy enough for most holiday gatherings, too, yet comfy and warm.

The Perfect Platform Chelsea Boots

These ’90s-inspired boots give me a great boost in height without being uncomfortable because of the platform sole. The mid-length is so good — they aren’t ankle boots or tall boots, but somewhere perfectly in-between so I can wear them with all different kinds of jeans and pants — from cropped to flares to straight-leg. (They’re also a no-brainer for dresses in colder fall and winter weather.)

About That Sweater Dress…

This sweater dress is so easy. The trapeze cut is super-forgiving (my Thanksgiving outfit for sure,) and it’s incredibly soft and comfy. It does run big in the body and short in length — but that’s pretty much perfect for my 5’4″ curvy frame. Taller ladies, you might want to swap tights for leggings!

I kept the ’90s theme going with Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Heathers — it’s a browned oxblood and the formula itself is long-lasting and matte. It’s one of my favorites!

And finally, I have to give a MAJOR shout-out to these Sheertex tights! OMG, Amy was SO right…these “unbreakable tights” are crazy comfortable, and they really don’t rip, snag or tear! Unless you take a knife to them…I may have taken that challenge a little too seriously. They definitely rip with a knife. 😂

XOXO,

Scotti
