I often use the phrase “this isn’t rocket science” when I post an outfit formula. I do this to sound ‘cutely’ self-deprecating and whatnot. Well, friends…tell me to stop that! I mean, sure, this isn’t NASA, but many of us around here have tried on a bazillion things over the years, and all of that has added up to some real knowledge.
When it comes to holiday events — Christmas parties, Hanukkah parties, office parties, cocktail parties, family gatherings, and more — what I want is easy…especially when it comes to dressier occasions.
So, after many years of trying on lots of things, I am living for simple formulas that help solve the ever-present dilemma of getting dressed. It’s funny how getting dressed is something we have to do 365 days a year and yet almost every day it presents a new challenge…even when you do this for a living. But for now, I can still rely on an outfit formula I love: slip dress + faux fur jacket…and it’s full steam ahead for chic holiday outfits!

Holiday Outfit Made Easy: Quince Silk Slip Dress + Faux Fur Jacket
Let’s chat about this silk dress, friends. It’s from one of my favorite brands for quality pieces at great price points, Quince. You’ve seen me in their sweaters before (here and here.)
This dress is washable silk and has lovely lines. And it is under $90. I’m wearing the medium here and it fits great and feels even better. I have always loved a slip dress but haven’t found the right one in the past few years…turns out this is it. This is offered in a small range of other gorgeous shades in sizes XS – XL. Thankfully, Quince has now added it in plus sizes here in 3 pretty shades.

Then, pop on your favorite faux fur jacket (ooh or this one.)

It’s dressy yet warm and cozy. I’ll get a ton of wear out of this gorgeous yet simple slip dress, with so many color combos and accessorizing options…I can get away with something like this for a variety of cold-weather occasions, even beyond the holidays.
And the knee boots? They’re a big part of why I still love this combo. Not only are they gorgeous, chic and add texture, but of course, they’re warm. They’re also a little bit badass, which I always personally need when I’m getting fancy. These are from Schutz and I’ve had them for years. They’re such a phenomenal boot, under wide leg jeans, skirts or with dresses.
