I can officially say I’ve participated in a Nordstrom Anniversary Sale now, and it was way more fun than anyone led me to believe. In fact, I think it was too much fun, because I’m staring at some seriously drool-worthy clothes on my office rack trying to visualize the cold-weather-future and figure out what I will actually want to be reaching for on a daily basis (hashtag all of it).
The Perfect Flannel Shirt Jacket Styled 10 Ways
I don’t have to think hard about this shacket from Thread & Supply, however, because it’s the perfect piece to transition from summer to fall. I can already start putting some miles on it; it’s ideal for cool summer evenings and is lined with fabric that feels like your favorite worn sweatshirt. We’re talking curl-up-and-take-a-nap kind of cozy.
I initially snapped a few shots of the jacket in my#NSale Selfies post (over that wrap dress is what did it for me) and immediately was excited to see what else it would look cute with. Spoiler alert: anything. Truly, there wasn’t an outfit I threw it on with that I didn’t like, whether it was a cozy day-off look, some summer shorts, or something a bit dressier for date night. From summer bonfire nights to the pumpkin patch this fall, this is how I’ll be rocking the shacket!
1. Paired With Marc Fisher Boots
jacket (L) | tee | jeans (28) | boots
This shirt jacket is super cute with the boots I also scooped up from the sale. It is practically made to be paired with the Marc Fisher Chelsea Boot in Alice Suede and is a delightful match with the Pikolinos Aldaya Musketeer Tall Boot (comfortable doesn’t even begin to describe those bad boys).
2. Over A Simple Tank & Loose Jeans
jacket (L) | tank | jeans (29) | boots
On a cool summer day I’d just slip into my Birks with this outfit and head out the door, but I’m definitely stepping into these boots for fall when I go to the apple orchard!
3. With A Hoodie For Maximum Cozy
jacket (L) | hoodie | jeans (28) | sneakers
Arguably my favorite way to rock this shirt jacket this fall will be with a hoodie — so easy, so cute (so warm). Also, these jeans? There’re from Re/Done — my all time favorite denim brand — and if you were bummed to miss out on the two pair of ’70s stovepipe jeans in the #NSale, hurry and grab these ’70s straight legs on sale that can still be found in various sizes on a few different websites (Nordstrom, Revolve, Saks & SSense)! I wear Re/Done loose jeans in 29 for a slouchier look, but prefer 28s in every other style as they wear-in lovely being rigid denim!
4. With Ribbed Lounge Pants
jacket (L) | sweatshirt | pants | sneakers
The outfit made for cold weather days off. There’s something about wearing all neutrals that makes me feel very put-together and adult-like, even when I’m just wearing sweats (with a college logo on it, at that). This cozy shacket is the perfect pairing.
5. Thrown On After a Morning Workout
jacket (L) | top (similar) | shorts | shoes (10)
The fact that I can throw this jacket on over both my morning yoga outfit and a dress makes this the most versatile fall wardrobe piece of all time. Yep, I said it (shoot, do I need it in blue now, too?!).
6. Dressed Up in Suede
jacket (L) | tank (L) | skirt (29) | boots | bag
The #NSale has turned me into a suede-loving skirt-wearing kinda gal, and that is quite the surprise for a girl who leans towards beachy + athletic looks. These pieces are all super comfy, and I just realized that the extra tall boots is how I can get away with wearing skirts when the weather gets cold in Michigan (how has it taken me so long?!). This tank is something I’m wearing on repeat — only 20 bucks, a ton of colors, and I’m always sad when I realize it’s in the dirty laundry!
7. With BDG Patchwork High Waist Straight Leg Jeans
jacket (L) | tank | jeans (29) | boots
Alright, these jeans are a total hidden gem. One of the images online makes these seem extremely skater-vibes, but that could only be possible if ordered in a few sizes up so they can slouch down. Worn in your true size and these are edgy-meets-sophisticated. I almost didn’t grab these because of the skater look at first glance, but I love the way they take shape when worn fitted at your high waist and paired with a heel! I dance between pant sizes 28 and 29, and am glad I chose the 29. These have both a button, as well as an elastic waistband, but they would have been too tight in a 28. If you’re in-between sizes like me, go up!
8. With Cut-Off Shorts
jacket (L) | tee | shorts (28) | sneakers
The outfit I’ll be grabbing for bonfires and late summer evenings. This shacket has epic pockets made for packs of graham crackers and marshmallows and chocolate bars, if you catch my drift! I also found these Converse Lifts in the regular shoe (non-high top style).
9. With Jeans & A Cropped Sweater
jacket (L) | sweater | jeans (28) | boots
This sweater is another absolute hidden gem, and I’m shook it hasn’t sold out. It’s beyond soft, the perfect length for all high-rise bottoms, and comes in a handful of colors (the red would be epic for the holidays). This is a piece I don’t have to wonder about keeping, it has been an immediate favorite — plus during the sale it’s just under $40! These jeans are incredibly similar to the MOTHER The Hustlers that were in the sale and sold out (I was able to grab both to compare), so definitely scoop these up quick if you were wanting that style!
10. With Knee-High Boots
jacket (L) | dress (similar) | boots | purse
I adore this look: simple, perfect for date night or even a fall family photo-op. These boots come with (removable) cushioned arch support of which I don’t need but will be keeping in because wow. That, paired with the soft leather…I didn’t know a boot could be this comfortable.
The shacket is beyond, friends. I’m 5’9″ and wearing a large, as I do in most jackets to have enough room to throw all sorts of sweaters and sweatshirts underneath comfortably, so I would consider it TTS. This gorgeous camel shade is easy for wearing with just about anything, but if you’re looking for something a bit more unique, it’s available in the prettiest sky blue, too. It would also be rude of me not to mention that the price point is better than any other shirt jacket I own — and during the #NSale it’s a steal of a deal! The dream!
