Thank you to Saks and ShopStyle for sponsoring this post.
A year of sweatpants has given me a lot to think about. And while there’s much we could talk about from a Big Picture perspective, what I’m ruminating on now is far simpler, something I can easily put my arms around:
What do I actually want to wear?
If I treat the Fall of 2021 as a big sartorial debut part II (so to speak), which outfit(s) feel the most like me? Do I flounce out the door in a frilly frock? Something backless with a dramatic skirt? Perhaps luxe trousers a la Katherine Hepburn? After a year of sweatpants…which pieces of clothing get me excited about fashion again?
As it turns out…I’m a t-shirt and jeans kinda girl.
Stripes, gang. Stripes get me excited again. Stripes are one of my first sartorial loves. They’re something I never really stopped wearing, but something I admittedly pushed to the back of the closet for a while.
Jeans & A Tee: French Girl Vibes Fall Outfit Formula
Over the last couple of years, I had been reserving my stripes for an almost-cliched vacation outfit, but I’m finding that their classic, nonchalant vibe is very much what I want to wear. And rag & bone, maker of my very favorite white tee, just nailed the striped tee. Their striped tee is an instant classic that still manages to feel fresh and different. (Made from organic cotton, too.)
There are, however, other elements I find myself getting excited about. I’m suddenly very into dark-wash flares (with a high-waist and interesting detail), denim-on-denim feels exactly right with the slight ’70s vibe I’m cooking up, and accessories in varying shades of tan and caramel not only look luxe, but are definitely making my heart beat fast.
These Loeffler Randall boots are not only beautiful, but they’re also surprisingly walkable, thanks to the lower heel. I love when a heeled boot feels more like a flat — leg-lengthening and comfortable, the best of both worlds. And this Staud bag is unbelievably gorgeous in person…the kind of bag that is perfect for fall, but wouldn’t look out of place with a white summer dress, either.
PAIGE Denim’s Leenah High-Rise Wide-Leg Jeans are the jeans I’ve been looking for. I love the classic blue wash, made interesting by the perfectly-placed ripped knee. It’s not too much, but keeps the vibe interesting. The rise is high, but not overly so, and the inseam is naturally 32″ (I cut mine off). They run a tiiiny bit small, but I am wearing my usual size.
Lastly, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that I’ll be warming up this entire outfit with a denim jacket I bought years ago. L’Agence’s Janelle Jacket feels like wearing a cardigan (it’s THAT soft), but has all of the structure and tailoring of a denim jacket. If I had to make a top ten list of The Best Buys I’ve Ever Made…this jacket would 100% be on that list.
Shop My Fall Outfit Formula
For anyone else looking for interesting takes on classic pieces, or one heck of an amazing denim selection, I highly recommend Saks. Not only are they carrying several shades of my favorite denim jacket, but browsing through their jeans always makes my heart beat fast. It’s REALLY good.
My exact denim jacket, L’Agence’s Janelle Slim-Fit, Raw Hem Jacket, is available in a bunch of different washes. See them all, here.
