My go-to daily style is ultra casual and pretty dang oversized. Think Gap’s unique, laidback denim and their wildly comfy “big shirts” — easy basics are quite literally on repeat in my wardrobe.

But recently, something came over me when I was perusing through Gap’s summer arrivals… I was smitten with the more feminine, romantic pieces on their site, the items I normally wouldn’t gravitate towards, and I knew I had to try a few before the season was over (or I would certainly regret it).

Gap Is Adding A Dash Of Modern Romance To My Summer Outfits

Two pieces, in particular, jumped out at me from Gap’s latest catalog: this flutter sleeve top and this garden party dress (which would also be fit for date night on a hot summer’s evening thanks to that striking color combo).

This dress is ready for any occasion that calls for an elevated look: a trip to the winery, family photos, a birthday celebration, or even a summer wedding.

What drew me in towards the top and dress is that they felt like perfect options for when I want to feel a little more dolled up than my everyday look, yet they’re both still soft and easy to wear. Neither piece is glam, which is the opposite of what I ever feel like doing, yet both are ready for any occasion that calls for an elevated look, be it a trip to the winery, family photos, a birthday celebration, or even a summer wedding (with the dress, of course).

This Flutter Sleeve Top & Black Shorts Combo Is Chic & Flirty

If there’s one category of clothing my closet is the weakest, it’s elevated tops.

T-shirts? I’ve got plenty. Button-ups? I’m swimming in them.

But a classic top that can be worn to achieve a more sophisticated outfit is easily the most difficult thing for me to find (well, to find ones I actually like, that is). When I spotted Gap’s flirty little Embroidered Flutter Sleeve Top, I was immediately curious.

The color combinations of Gap’s Embroidered Flutter Sleeve Top are bold enough to feel interesting while still being very romantic.

I think my biggest hardship in finding elevated tops is they can often feel so boring, or lacking in personality. The color combinations of Gap’s Embroidered Flutter Sleeve Top are striking and still bold enough for the top to feel interesting while being very romantic. I love how the embroidery gives off a coastal grandmother aesthetic (my personal favorite) yet still presents itself as a very youthful, modern top.

I was pleasantly surprised to find the top incredibly lightweight, making it such a stellar choice for hot summer weather.
I didn’t feel the weight of the gorgeous sleeve detailing, nor did the embroidery have any itchy, uncomfortable backside.

Taking a cue from Gap’s own styling on their models, I scooped up their Mid Rise Girlfriend Denim Shorts to pair with the top.

The Garden Party Dress I Didn’t Know I Needed

There’s no arguing the brown and blue color combo of Gap’s Tiered Midi Dress — it is incredibly unique and striking, AKA completely up my alley.

Let’s not forget these minimal brown sandals or Gap’s perfect tote bag -- accessories that can be thrown on with just about any outfit.

This Midi Dress would be a no-brainer to wear to a wedding this summer (bonus points if it’s a garden setting because this dress feels made for a garden party).

The dress has a soft and silky feeling, and probably my favorite part is that it doesn’t cling to my body at all. I feel breezy and cool wearing it. I truly feel like I could easily wear it from sun up to sun down without a complaint in the world.

I have the dress buttoned by the neck, which I loved for a delicate and formal appearance, but playing around with it later on in the day, I felt as though wearing it unbuttoned gave an equally attractive look that was just a little more casual and undone (perfect if you’re wearing it for a weekend around town).

These sandals are comfortable from the first wear + an amazing option for a shoe that is chic and dressy while still being easy to walk in!

It may have been my alter ego doing the shopping for this particular Gap order, but as it turns out, I think I need to invite her around more!
