We’ve all heard that denim is trending in a big way this summer, but sometimes rocking those denim-on-denim ensembles in real life feels a bit more costume-like than how they appear to look on Pinterest.
But I recently found a way to rock a full denim outfit that’s easy and totally comfortable — even as a mom of a toddler — and all you need is a white tank and brown accessories (and denim, of course).
The Easiest Way To Rock A Denim Outfit On A Hot Summer Day
My easy denim outfit, at its core, is one of the most common outfits I reach for on a daily basis: jeans, a tank top, and a denim button-up thrown over the top.

In my personal opinion, the denim on top and bottom don’t have to match (although it can be fun when they do), and neither do the brown accessories. The more variety of tones you incorporate, the more textured and personalized your outfit will be. But if you do want to match up the shades? It’ll look very chic. Those finishing touches are totally up to you.
The white-and-brown combo is both easy to accomplish (it’s almost impossible for them to look bad together, no matter the tones) and very fresh for summertime — and it looks great with denim!

Citizens Of Humanity Short-Sleeve Button-Up: The Perfect Lightweight Denim Top For Summer
I’d been wanting a lighter denim top for summer that I could wear in place of a denim jacket, but I wasn’t quite in love with anything until I found the Kayla Short-Sleeve Button-Up Top from Citizens of Humanity. I immediately loved the boxy shape of the shoulders and the longer sleeves, and it looked to be the right length where I could easily tuck it into my pants but not have extra bulk.
I was right — it’s perfect.

The weight of this denim button-up shirt is shockingly light (you never quite know when seeing photos online). It’s 100% cotton, very well made, and thin enough to wear on a hot summer day, while still structured enough for the short sleeves to stay rolled.
Looking for a similar top under $100? Try this one from Levi’s!
I’m wearing my true size, medium, in this denim top, and it gives me enough room in the shoulders to feel extremely comfortable picking up my flailing 2-year-old, while not being overly large or boxy.

AGOLDE ’90s Pinch-Waist: The Jeans I’m Grabbing Over & Over Again
AGOLDE is my favorite brand for denim, by a long shot. These jeans always fit my straight, zero-curves-frame perfectly.
I’ve gone back and forth between the ’90s Loose-Fit and ’90s Pinch-Waist jeans being my most-worn for the past five(-ish) years, but right now these ’90s Straight-Leg Pinch-Waist Jeans in the wash Focus are what I’m grabbing from my closet over and over (and over again).

While I prefer a size down in the ’90s Loose, I like my true size in the AGOLDE ’90s Pinch-Waist Jeans. As the name suggests, these jeans are a bit more fitted up top, but in my opinion it’s not actually pinched in the waist as much as it is more fitted and snatched in the hip area overall. The silhouette is one of my favorites; it flatters the booty while still being loose and casual from the thighs down.

Truthfully, I wish I had a buttery-brown purse to throw over my shoulder, but I haven’t found one I love just yet. Woven textures (this brand is incredible) are my current go-to for a light, beachy vibe!
The best part about my denim-on-denim look is that the bottoms can easily be swapped. If it’s too hot for jeans, opt for denim shorts. If you want to feel a bit more dolled up, reach for a trending denim maxi skirt (or hey, miniskirts are back too). It’s a great look to repeat all summer long.
xx,
Amy
