On the hunt for easy holiday outfit inspo? We pulled a few of the TME editors together to talk go-to outfit formulas for the holidays (think: party time). We love a good outfit formula on the regular, and the holiday party circuit is no exception.
So whether you are looking for something cute to wear to a friend’s house, headed to an office party, or planning to dance all night at some glamorous bash (gahhhh you lucky duck you), our editors understood this assignment.
5 Stylish Holiday Party Outfit Ideas
Some of our editors love the full-on glitz and glam (oh hi, Kat), while others went with a comfy, cozy twist on holiday dressing (Amyyy and — you guessed it — Linzi). Per usual, S is wearing a turtleneck. Laura is also staying true to form in black denim…but they both put a surprisingly festive spin on their typical basics.

Shana’s Holiday Outfit Formula: Slip Dress + Turtleneck
While S has been rocking this slip dress + turtleneck combo for years, she’s updated it a bit by swapping her usual booties and tights for tall boots, and her usual faux-fur for a maxi coat. The vibe is a fresh, festive take on ’70s chic. We like it.

Amy’s Holiday Outfit Formula: Bodysuit + Black Jeans + Statement Boots
Amy went a more cozy route, a holiday look that lets her chase the baby while also being photo ready. Black denim jeans and a simple black bodysuit are a great base for some statement boots (her green Staud chelsea boots are both understated and wildly gorgeous), and her look is finished off with a polished, cozy topper from Vince. The resulting look is both effortless and chic.

Laura’s Holiday Outfit Formula: Almost All Black, But Loads of Texture
Laura’s outfit is a study on texture and details. She styled up her PAIGE coated denim joggers with a silk cami, then piled on the texture: a faux-fur jacket, feather bag, edgy sparkly earrings, and suede pumps. The emerald green + black was another genius move: it reads monochromatic…but extra-special and so festive.

Linzi’s Holiday Outfit Formula: Jeans & A Black Top (But Quirky & Sparkly)
For those of us who rely on jeans and a black top, Linzi shows how to take it next level. Instead of the usual dark wash jeans, she found an amazing paint-splattered pair from MOTHER denim. Her formula (which would work with literally any black top or sweater) is then to simply pile on the sparkle: earrings, bracelets, bag, etc., The result is unexpected, playful and fun.
Sidenote: If you want to DIY this one…we have a tutorial on how to paint splatter your jeans.

Kat’s Holiday Outfit Formula: Shiny + Sparkly
Kat finishes off our holiday outfit formulas with a total show-stopper. Her goal? To look like “a Christmas disco ball”. This formula is actually more foolproof than it seems: mix metallics with wild abandon, pair shiny fabrics with sparkly ones, and don’t be afraid to mix reds with pinks, oranges with peaches, and mint greens with emerald tones. This kind of an outfit mix ends up feeling fresh and effortless, rather than fussy.
