Much like a classic button-up, a white shirt dress — especially a slightly oversized version — is just one of those things that hits the mark for me. The mark being, it’s easy. Simple, wearable day-to-day, polished. I had one years ago that I wore all of the time.

3 Ways To Style A White Shirt Dress

I don’t know what turned me back on to them recently, but one morning I woke up and *bing!*…”I need a good shirt dress” is what popped into my head. So, [click click click, purchase] and here we are today.

Now, how I’ve been wearing it…

(FYI: I live in the Carolinas, so my version of Fall Dressing does not include a lot of layers, unfortunately. If I’m lucky by end of October I’ll be able to do a sweater or jacket over top.)

1. For Everyday: Shirt Dress Over Jeans + Converse

Keepin’ it casual by doing the whole Dress Over Jeans thing. I love the look, have always loved it. There’s something about layering with a dress, no matter whether it’s a long flowy maxi, a little slip dress with a high slit, or a chunky sweater dress, that makes me excited…and the shirt dress is no exception. I’ve been wearing mine halfway unbuttoned with these comfy, long-enough-for-this-tall-gal jeans and sunny Converse sneakers. It’s a casual, run-around-all-day outfit. My kinda thing.

2. For Date Night: Shirt Dress + Sexy Heeled Booties & An Interesting Bag

Sometimes I like to wear heels, it’s true. Not often! However, on random days I do like to tempt fate and see if I can successfully make it through a day without breaking my ankles. It’s a fun game.

With a heel & fun shoulder bag, the white shirt dress is more “let’s put on something nice for once and grab a drink at that hip new spot…what’s it called again? (and chuckle about how we are on the edge of losing our sh*t everyday)”. It’s very Ralph Lauren Meets The Suburban Mom.

Love it.

Note: My booties only have a few sizes left, but I love this chunkier-heeled option here.

3. Sporty Vibes: Shirt Dress + A Baseball Hat & Platform High Tops

Now, buttoned up with baseball cap…a bit sporty, but also maintaining that tailored look. I don’t do hats very often (they make me feel awkward, not sure why), but I am more apt to wear one if it serves as the “cherry on top” — really adds something to my outfit. I think it really does that here, collaborating with the soft grey of my Converse to make the dress a lot more interesting.
