For the last couple of months, my regular stack of jeans and I haven’t been getting along. The fits all seem to be a bit off, or I’m unhappy with the lengths, or I’m simply just uninspired by them.
Enter: BDG corduroy pants from Urban Outfitters to save the day.
I think the reason cords are far more interesting to me right now is the color and texture they provide. However, not all of them are created equal (I’ve tried many, many pairs this year).
The Brown Corduroys Getting All My Outfit Love…(+ How I Style ‘Em)
Urban Outfitters has the best, most up-to-date shapes with their pants, and to my surprise, these cords are very easy to style. They’ve been the perfect solution to getting dressed when I just don’t like anything else.
Now through 12/14, get $50 off a future purchase when you spend $100 at Urban Outfitters.
Pretty much ever since the weather turned cool (I live in Michigan, so that was months ago), corduroys have been my main gig. Something about their soft, textured structure and almost velvet-like vibe makes them perfectly seasonal. They often come in warm color tones which means all you have to do is throw on your favorite sweater and it gives the effortless impression that you spent gobs of time crafting the perfect winter outfit!
Corduroys don’t always come in silhouettes I personally admire, so I was totally over the moon to see that Urban Outfitters had both a BDG High & Wide Leg, as well as a BDG High-Waisted Mom Pant style. The only problem was figuring out what colors I wanted, because they come in such good, unique hues. Naturally, I grabbed two colors of the wide leg because I couldn’t decide (and, uh, now I want a third).
Fit Notes: I’m wearing my true size in the BDG High & Wide Corduroy and love the fit. They are tight in the hips and booty (of which I lack), so you might want to go up a size if that concerns you. For a loose, lower rise look like some of the models are rocking, I would think you would need to go up more than one size.
How I’m Wearing The BDG Cords
This cable knit half-zip sweater (in color “brown” but looks cranberry in real life) has become the best pairing (for all high-waisted bottoms, for that matter,) and it’s especially cozy with the Autumn Turtleneck layered underneath. I feel like I’m ready for a day of drinking cocoa at the ski lodge.
Both pieces are well-made and very warm (I’m wearing a large in both.) The look and feel are so good that I might grab each in another color and call it good for the winter.
In addition to the wide leg, I also have the Corduroy High-Waisted Mom Pant by BDG (wearing my true size). I love a good pair of mom-style pants because you still get the tapered leg, which is perfect for tucking into big winter boots (or simply roll them with your tighter boot shafts, like I did here) but they’re not so tight you can’t move. Plus, I love a good high rise.
Colors of this pair have been selling out (which means you know they’re good), so I’m keeping my eye on restocks. While this cranberry is currently out, the tan and black are my next choices, and would be so easy for styling with the tops already in your closet.
The high rise of the pants makes them ideal for all my cropped sweaters and jackets. When buying puffers, I personally prefer a cropped cut every day of the week because longer versions make me feel like I’ve been swallowed, and not in a cozy way (but more in a “I can’t move” sort of way).
This jacket is lined with the softest fleece, and even the pockets are lined (the best surprise every single time I slip my hands in them). It’s so warm that it even held up in our latest temperature drop (“feels like -6” according to the weather app.)
Urban Outfitters has the best, most up-to-date shapes with their pants & these cords are so easy to style. They’re the perfect solution to getting dressed when I don’t like anything else.
I’m pretty sure my husband has heard me mumble about how much I love this coat every single time I throw it on and walk out the door. It’s one of those pieces that you are stunned by every time you wear it. I’m wearing a medium and it’s the perfect fit.
More Ways To Wear The Cords I’m Obsessed With
If warm tones don’t necessarily make your heart soar, there are lighter shades of the BDG High & Wide Corduroy Pant that are gorgeous. I adore color blocking with “winter whites” this time of year, which is just what I love to call any light neutral shades all worn together…in winter.
While these light grey pants sold really quickly, I’ve noticed these cords have been restocking with time. The “beige” is another great option for a winter white outfit — and would be perfect with this flannel (maybe even better).
My flannel is light and soft, with an updated drapey fit as opposed to a classic button-up (my favorite). Since it has that natural oversized fit, my normal size medium is what I went with. There’s a handful of really good color options, too.
The sweatshirt is thick and sturdy, almost more of a light jacket than your average hoodie (wearing a large). The embroidery is what is so special about it: the pattern changes depending on what color you choose, which would make for such a fun, unique gift!
Speaking of gifts, Urban Outfitters rounded up their top 50 holiday gift ideas right here (I’ve purchased a fleece for my husband the last three years in a row, and he wears them every single day in the winter). To be honest, I have been shopping at Urban Outfitters for many years, and one of the reasons is because of their home & gifts section. They not only have really rad original pieces, but source from the coolest brands, and often have unique colors or pieces in collaboration with other brands just for their store.

As for regular denim? I’m not quite sure when that will get back into my everyday wardrobe rotation, but with these pieces in my closet, I’m certainly not in a rush.
