My most-worn, most-loved, absolute FAVORITE puffer of all time is back in stock, but…
I’m totally disappointed.
What the heck, Uniqlo?!! Last year there were six fabulous colors, and this year there are only four? And you went with a much lighter gray (that is sure to get filthy in the city) and a brighter purple that hurts my eyes?
And there’s no green??? Where did the green go? Green is my favorite!! In a year when green is THE color! Come on, Uniqlo!!!
Spoiler alert for the rest of the post: Even though I AM disappointed in this year’s color choices, I still highly recommend the black and navy mid-length Uniqlo puffers that I have worn for years; I am totally drawn to the shorter style this year. And if you’re as disappointed as I was that they took away green in the mid-length, their long puffer (shown below) comes in an absolutely gorgeous olive. Woohoo!

A Review Of Uniqlo Puffer Coats (Long, Short & Mid-Length)
For those of you new to TME, this will be my fourth winter of wearing and loving and writing about the Uniqlo puffer coat (feel free to fact check this: 2020, 2019 and 2018.)
Yep, been loving and writing about this guy since 2018! And yep, I’m disappointed in the downsized color selection…but let’s do a little review of what we know and love (despite this year’s changes), and then take a look at the new Uniqlo coats too.
1. The Black Uniqlo Puffer Is Forever GOOD!

Never a bad idea to review the positives of this classic favorite puffer: lightweight, not too constricting, nice lines that don’t make me look like a giant marshmallow, warm, covers my tush, and reasonably priced (for a good puffer). Comes in XXS-XXL. Size S fits me best.
2. You Can’t Go Wrong With The Navy Either

I’ve had the navy Uniqlo puffer since 2018, and it’s definitely still in the mix every winter. Such a good coat.
3. Light Gray…hmmm

I don’t know guys…it’s pretty in person, but I like the darker gray from last year better. This light color in this length would definitely be difficult to keep clean in the city, especially sitting all the gross places one sits in the city. If you’re a light gray/silver fan, though, and are good with laundry and stains…go for it.
4. Purple Uniqlo Puffer…Nope!

This year’s purple (lavender really) is similar to last year’s, but much “more so.” I prefer the slightly more subtle hue of last year’s. This one hurts my eyes.
5. If You’re Looking For Green…This One

The green is absolutely beautiful — reads completely as a neutral, and is great if you’re looking for a black puffer alternative. The olive green is very pretty (and my favorite by far), but it does come in black and light gray as well.
6. Oooooh…My Fav Puffer But Short
Short Puffer | Denim | Boots (Updated Version) | Boots (Old Version)
Uniqlo has carried short puffers in the past, but I haven’t fallen in love with the previous styles. I’ve tried the cocoon and the lightweight and the hybrid and the reversible, but this one is basically my medium-length coat (I love), but shorter. Which means…it’s good! I liked the natural color above and the black below, but I just saw the dark gray in the store, and it’s even better in person.

The comfy not-too-tight, elastic at the bottom is hidden, it feels light and airy, but is substantial enough that I would actually wear it on cold days. Sometimes the super lightweight ones just don’t feel heavy enough for me. Comes in a really pretty dark gray, black, natural, and blue (periwinkle). Sizing XXS-XXL. I’m wearing size S.
7. New To The Scene…This Oversized Swingy Parka
Hybrid Oversized Parka | Denim | Boots (Updated Version) | Boots (Old Version)
Woah — the surprise of my Uniqlo shopping experience! I am loving everything oversized and comfy and slouchy right now, and this swingy wide-sleeve coat is being added to the mix for sure. I love it! Apparently, everyone else does too because sizes are selling out SUPER fast. Click through here to see a better angle of the cool sleeves. I love it over leggings for workouts (covers just enough bum), I love it over flare jeans with high-heeled boots, and with slouchy denim or joggers as well. It even looks cute over dresses and tights. I’m wearing a size S here, but may try the XS if it gets restocked. I like the oversized slouchy look, but I have a feeling the XS might be better for me.
And that’s my Uniqlo puffer review for 2021-2022! Obviously, even though I was disappointed in Uniqlo’s decreased color selection in my fav Uniqlo puffer (and especially that they got rid of the green), I ended up finding a couple new styles to get me excited about the upcoming cold weather. And I will definitely be breaking out my old Uniqlo puffers from the past as well (love that I never grow tired of their classic style).
