Restocked: The J.Crew Icon Trench Coat I Love

Earlier this year, I went on a search for a quality trench coat I could wear for years and years to come. I tried coats from Banana Republic and Nordstrom. I attempted to don at least one Burberry trench coat but they were already sold out. (Thankfully Shana just did a deep dive on two Burberry trench coats.)

One of the final coats I tried was the J.Crew Icon trench…and you probably already know I fell in love with it.

Annndddd…it promptly sold out. Around here at TME, we are not privy to any exclusive info about the inventory of pieces we order, fall in love with, photograph, and write about. So when something we love and have put a lot of effort into comes back in stock? Well, let’s just say that’s a good day!

The J. Crew Icon Trench Coat Is Perfect IMO

I am so happy to see that my beloved mid-weight trench coat is back this fall, just in time for the rainy season and cool weather.

This coat is so well made. And though my style leans mostly sporty and a bit edgy, a classic piece like a trench coat is my favorite way to add a little polish to a fall outfit or balance out an overall look.

A classic trench coat is a great way to add polish to a fall outfit.
A fall trench coat works with so many outfits here in rainy Portland.

Fall Color Combos: Beige & Green

I adore pairing my beige trench coat with greens (a combo I talked about in spring.) For fall, I’m swapping in my darker green Clare V trucker hat for the bright green Clare V sweatshirt (fangirl much? heh. It’s true love.)

And speaking of fangirl…this new Clare V Moyen Messenger bag I got after thinking about for months is seriously amazing. It’s the perfect bag. It was an investment to be sure, but it’s already become my emotional support purse…haha don’t laugh at me. It’s insanely lovely to carry, holds all the things (but not too much), and has two handle options (plus interchangeable clips for even more variety!) More on this bag soon, but add it to your holiday wishlist!

I love my khaki trench coat with a pop of green & a leather cross body bag.

It’s Those Classic Trench Coat Details

This coat is beautifully made with classic finishes like epaulets, leather details, belted sleeves, a storm flap AND a detachable hood (see my selfies below.)

For this Portland girl, it is absolutely necessary that a trench coat has a hood (we don’t use umbrellas here because, like, your hand would be permanently attached to one). This hood is an amazing bonus that not a ton of trench coats offer!

J Crew Icon Trench Sizing Details: This lovely trench fits true to size and I’m wearing a Regular 6 here. It fits over my hoodies just without needing to size up. I love the fitted look of such a classic piece that I’m planning to keep forever.

FYI, I’m 5’4″ and a size Small/6, rarely in petite sizing though, straighter through the middle, and have a slightly shorter torso. 32DD bra size.

I’m included these little selfies at the end here so that A) you can see the hood when it’s attached and B) I can remind myself that I am, in fact, capable of tying that belt and having it look cool. Look at that moment of styling clarity, y’all. I’m now studying my past self so I can hopefully repeat that genius in the future.

LOL. Until next time, friends…

xo,

L
