So, let’s get right to it. I love a good J.Crew try-on…but for years their jeans have been a struggle for me. I love the look — they always look great on the site and occasionally a pair will sort of work — but overall they just don’t fit me right.
Yet, here I am trying again. And here ya go. I tried some trouser-style jeans this time and…they’re just okay. I think Shana would love them and perhaps Linzi but on me, they’re just eh, fine. Nothing to write home about and not quite my vibe.
I was feeling pretty blah about this whole J.Crew try-on…until I started grabbing pieces from my own closet, mixing them in with the preppy J.Crew stuff, et voilà…outfits that feel like me, featuring the J.Crew pieces that caught my eye.
I ended up with some fun fall tops and a pair of ankle boots that I’d highly recommend. You’ll see some cute fall outfits came together with some other (not J.Crew) pants I liked MUCH better.
See how this preppy J.Crew top becomes more my vibe with these black Agolde jeans? Yep. I love knowing this trick works.
Oh, and you’ll notice I got a much needed hair CHOP in some of these pics. I feel more myself already! (Sorry for the slight combover moments before the new cut…heh.)

Cute Tops, Fall Sweaters & Kitten Heels: My J.Crew Try-On Keepers
Sweaters, jackets, shoes and jewelry have historically been my go-to finds from J.Crew. (And swimsuits, but this isn’t the season.) And this try-on was no different.
These five J.Crew faves I’m highlighting below were the true stand-outs of my recent try-on — especially once I styled them up with other items from my closet. That’s one bonus for me that comes with ordering online and trying at home. I can combine what I’m testing out with things I actually wear all the time. It really helps me visualize if they’re a good match for my closet. Let’s get to it!
1. This Striped Lady Jacket
You’ve seen this lady jacket on Amy too and I think I can say both of us are smitten. It’s just a cool updated version of coastal grandma chic we saw a bit ago haha. But I love the nod to Chanel jackets in this uber preppy piece.

Of course, I paired mine with some baggy cargo jeans (these things are ah-mazing because they’re actually knit) to balance out the country club look. I can say that. I grew up in one.
I have so much striped stuff I think I might opt for the solid camel version instead, but it is a beautiful sweater. TTS and love how it wears like more of a jacket than a cardigan, but is soft and comfy.

2. This Cable Knit Sweater
Beautifully made and with a very slight puffed sleeve, this cable knit cotton sweater is so lovely. It’s a great slightly feminine piece in a good midweight for all fall. I love that it’s slightly cropped, too.

I can’t decide whether I’d like a size up or not or whether it should be worn fitted because of the puff sleeves. The stitch pattern is gorgeous!
3. This Striped Tee
Who would have thought a simple tee like this would get me so excited but the cut and the design are just perfect. How the stripes continue across the cap sleeves is soo good and I’m actually wearing this baby right now!
It’s soft and fits great and dips just a bit lower in the back but still about 4-5″ above my bra strap. It’s just simply a great tee. Get it.

4. This Black Button-Up Vest
I love a vest moment and this crepe-style fabric if this rad J.Crew vest is great. It has a slight matte texture to it making it less tuxedo and more everyday. I sized up because of the wide ribcage/bust issues I typically have and it fit great.

5. These Gorgeous & Comfy Ankle Boots
J.Crew shoes are some of my longest standing pieces in my wardrobe. I have a pair of riding boots from eons ago and my favorite pair of dressy heels are J.Crew. This season I am loving these gorgeous Stevie ankle boots. These kitten heel ankle boots are a must-try.
This color is so pretty with denim of any shade and the pointed toe is always my favorite, but especially paired with the baggy jeans we’re seeing right now. It’s a nice contrast to the wide fabric at the ankle.

These boots fit true to size and are super beautiful leather and comfortable to walk in. They’d be great with a slim straight leg, trousers or dresses, too!
Honorable Mentions
I’ve loved J.Crew sweater blazers for a few years now and this Cecile Relaxed Sweater Blazer (that I believe they also had last year) is a nice thinner option than the wool blends from two years ago. The only tricky thing here is the sizing. This one was described as oversized so I ordered a Small (the wool options ran huge) but obviously this isn’t sized the same.
I don’t mind the fit elsewhere but the sleeves are almost bracelet length on me. So I suggest sticking TTS or even going up a size for a more oversized vibe. Otherwise, the weight and color and shape are so good!
Blazer (S) | Tank | Jeans (30)
This roll-neck cotton sweater is so classic J.Crew and while it’s not in my top five, I do think it’s a fab find. It seems slightly more cropped than in years past, but just a bit. The fit is true to size and it’s so comfy without being thin. It has great structure that seems like it will hold its shape throughout the day (important in a cotton sweater.)

If you have any J.Crew faves this season I’ve missed, let me know what I should try next!
