I mean, what even is this year, y’all? This is the second post I’ve done wearing a full-on sweatsuit…but I am HERE for it. Haha. If you had told this Forever-in-Jeans Gal a year ago that this is what I’d be writing posts about, I would have laughed in your face. Now? I do not give any you-know-whats. #Sweatsforever.
Do Madewell’s MWL Sweats Live Up To My Expectations?
I am, however, a little picky (no surprise) about which sweatsuits I do choose to wear in public. I’m pretty much only down for the matching ones these days, for the most part, and they need to have a good fit or some interesting details. So I was intrigued when I kept eyeing this newish set from Madewell, from their new MWL line, part of their eco-friendly Do Well shop. (There’s not enough info for us to put them in our TME Sustainable category quite yet, but we’ll keep an eye on it.)
Here’s the fabric description from Madewell’s site: “Made from 85% organic cotton/15% post-consumer recycled polyester. Do Well: Made from certified organic cotton that is grown without chemical fertilizers and pesticides from untreated, non-genetically modified seeds and pre-consumer recycled polyester that keeps plastic out of landfills.”
Definitely headed in the right direction, Madewell! My first thought when I tried on both pieces? The fabric is super soft! I loved the shrunken fit of the hoodie for something different and wearable. I’ve been living in oversized hoodies at home, but when I want to look less slouchy I do like a more fitted cut for my shorter frame. This delivers. I’ll for sure mix and match the top with jeans and other bottoms. The hoodie fits true to size. I’m wearing a small.
The sweatpants I also love, same soft fabric and a cool higher waisted panel, when compared to your typical sweatpants styles. There are only two downsides to the pants for me. One, they run a little bit big (I probably could have sized down to an XS) and two, they do stretch at the knees after all-day wear. That leads me to having to wash them after each wear, which isn’t uncommon for sweatpants, but I don’t always want to have to do that.
Another minor thing was what to do with the drawstring…do I leave it tied and untucked? Tuck it in? It leaves a little bump though, and obviously, I wasn’t sure which route to take. Lordy. You’d think after 43 years on this Earth and having dealt with drawstring waists for many of those years I could have figured this out. Haha. But I do think I might prefer it untucked and tied with this higher waist going on. Seeing as I’m just a regular gal, in a mask, trying to be safe and not look awkward sometimes these styling details get overlooked when we’re shooting in the wild. #notamodel
Overall takeaway? LOVE them. They also offer 20% off when you buy any MWL top and any MWL bottom. Sweet deal. They’re comfy, cute and the fit is adorable. Just perhaps size down in the bottoms. Ooh, and if you want a longer top this Betterterry Crewneck Sweatshirt has pockets! My friend Posy got the same set I have in the gorgeous Cedar colorway, and I can’t wait to see it. She got the XXL (her typical size) and says they’re definitely roomy and she’d probably size down, too.

Have you tried any of the MWL pieces? I’m now tempted to try a bunch more. I’m going to grab the bottoms in an XS to compare and I’ll put something on social media for ya.
Stay tuned for more from Madewell. Last year I wrote about breaking up with them, but they are drawing me back in with their…sexy sweats? Hahaha. They have some pull-on comfy jeans too that are seriously intriguing. I’ll try them out and keep ya posted! Ooh, and if you’re ever out in East Portland or the Columbia River Gorge, you gotta stop by Sugarpine Drive-In! Delicious food and a great view of the Sandy River! Until next time, Stay Gorge! 😉
