It’s here! The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale preview has launched, and I feel like it’s the first day of school! I’m excited, slightly nervous, and planning what I’m going to be wearing for any/all upcoming events…except those events are a bit more “nice dinner out” and less “sleepover” (but I’m just as excited about fall pumpkin patches as I was back then).
Fall has always been one of my most favorite things in life. Living in a town that glows in marvelous golden tones when the leaves change is, honestly, straight-up magic…and dressing for it? Even better. It was not a painful task (though it was a hefty one) to flip through Nordstrom’s preview pages and dream about what I want to be wearing for the cooler months.
I was pregnant during the changing of seasons last year, so not only did that mean I wasn’t able to rock the latest pant styles of the season, I was mostly just not thinking about my wardrobe whatsoever.
Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2021: A Warm Neutral Capsule Wardrobe By A Postpartum Mama
Now that I get to have some serious excitement about refreshing my fall wardrobe, I still have my sights set on comfortable pieces that work with my ever-changing postpartum body. I’m envisioning these Re/Done jeans (from my all-time fav brand), these Blondo boots in my color of the moment (green everything, please!!), topped with this Open Edit sweater and the most beautiful hooded coat from Avec Les Filles that I’ve seen in a long time. Michigan’s weather is always a gamble, but if that sunshine stays warm in the fall months, I’m dreaming of dresses like this gorgeous wrap dress (paired with these suede boots, can you imagine?! SWOON!)! The stoke is high, my friends, very very high.
It’s almost cruel that this is just a preview period and we have to wait to shop – but the fact that we can save to our Nordstrom Wish List’s is, in turn, an organizer’s dream. You can always bookmark this post to act as your own mini wish list (ta-da!) and revisit once the sale is available for you to shop! So without further ado, here is my highly curated warm + neutral palette wishlist from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!
I’m not a huge jewelry person, but I do love having a few versatile, delicate gold pieces that can dress up loungewear, as well as complement a date night outfit. This chain necklace from Monica Vinader is on-trend but also a piece to keep forever, and it’s designed to give subtle twinkles in the light!
I worked hard at finding the perfect basic tops for high-waisted denim to wear this summer, and now I’m thinking this is the perfect one for the colder months! It’s a cropped cut from Open Edit, but seems long enough to just hit the top of our favorite high-waisted pants, maybe even enough to tuck just a tad depending on your torso.
In the spirit of refreshing my entire fall wardrobe, I want a simple, casual top to easily throw on — and this graphic tee is SO cute! The sunflowers give it a late summer/early fall vibe, and it would be the perfect piece to pair with all the trousers I’m loving to keep things a bit more casual. I’m a big fan of Billabong, and the dropped shoulders give it the best oversized look!
When I first clicked through the Nordstrom Sale Preview pages, I found myself saving a lot of coats to my wishlist — but this is the coat I keep continually clicking back to. It’s classic in fabric and color, but I think it’s the oversized hood that really does it for me. It feels like the perfect combination of casual and classy that could be dressed up and down — honestly, that’s the dream!
Free People sweaters were the one thing I was eagerly looking forward to finding in this sale — and THIS is the one I’m hoping to grab in time before sell out (keeping my eye on this other Free People sweater, as well). It comes in five colors and looks like the perfect top for both jeans and leggings (it’s long!), or to throw over a dress. Ready, set, GO with this piece!
My stomach actually has butterflies with this Free People wrap dress, because I want to try it so badly — just hoping I can get my hands on it before sell-out! It’s the perfect fall dress in my opinion, and the wrap feature makes it very versatile for a postpartum body. I want to wear it just like the model is online…with suede boots and a sweet little shoulder bag.
Helllllooo faux leather, I have been waiting for you! I’ve been eyeing up pants similar to this for a year, and I’m obsessed with this trouser style from Open Edit. The best part is that these are listed as safe for machine washing (many faux leather styles are not, although that doesn’t usually stop me, if I’m being honest). The belt is removable, and although the inseam could be a bit short for my long legs (listed as 27”), I’m thinking they will be perfect to pair with a higher cut fall boot!
The athletic section seems to be rich with smokey fall hues. This Nike crewneck is not only one of my all-time favorite sweatshirts (I own it in black) but also would be perfect paired with the leggings I have included in this roundup (or with a perfectly slouchy pair of jeans for your day–off like this pair from FRAME featured in the sale). It’s incredibly comfortable and a must-grab at this sale price!
Oh, flannel! The quintessential fall wardrobe piece — at least where I live! I gave up on flannel shirts a few years ago because I couldn’t find any that were fresh and inspired feeling, but this BDG shirt finally caught my eye! It has an updated silhouette that looks perfectly oversized, and in the most glorious color palette to match all of our new green boots from the sale.
Re/Done makes my most favorite pair of denim of all time — so I actually squealed a little when I saw a few styles included in the Anniversary Sale! I’m looking forward to trying these stovepipe jeans, but here’s another pair in shade “indigo” if you’re not feeling the black (or feeling them BOTH!).
I am eager to add a suede pair of booties to my wardrobe for fall! I think what I love most about this Marc Fisher pair is the lug sole with just the slightest back lift; I will grab this pair far more often than one with a more prominent heel.
Show me a green boot and make it waterproof? I’ve been sent to heaven. Without knowing it before this preview went live, this Blondo shoe is what all my fall boot dreams are made of. Here’s hoping my large foot size keeps it in stock long enough to snag a pair!!!
This Chinese Laundry mule is the perfect combination of slipper and flat. The faux shearling that lines the inside makes it a great choice for a house shoe (especially in Michigan, where it’s chilly), or an ideal choice if you live somewhere without snow all year. You can grab it in both a white color, too!
I’m seeing a lot of new takes on cargo pants for fall, which I must admit I do not hate! This wool-blend pair from Reiss is so pretty, and a nice balance to the dark denim and pants I’ve been picking out (but on that note, here’s a dark pair of cargo-style pants also featured in the sale that I’m drooling over)! I want to pair these pants with a shearling-lined mule like this one and drink some hot cider, please and thank you.
Turns out, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale has the most glorious athletic pieces, which I was pleasantly surprised to find (I’m very tough to please in the workout apparel department). Like with the Nike sweatshirt, I think I love the selection, mostly because of the deep hues like this smokey mauve legging from Nike that are included. They’re not only unique, but perfect for fall! These would also be adorable paired with an oversized sweater (and a hot coffee, cause, you know).
