You know those dresses that are so easy to wear anywhere? To just throw on and go? Those dresses that are comfortable and flattering and easy to dress up or down?
The Mini Dress With A Slit To Dress Up Or Down (It’s Under $40, Too)
I almost completely overlooked this t-shirt dress (with a slit!) because of the reviews, but am now so glad I tried it.
This dress is a perfect dress for summer (especially for travel) because it is that easy to style. It’s BP’s Front-Slit Ribbed T-Shirt dress (found at Nordstrom) and is also available in plus sizes. It can be worn casually with flip-flops or become something fancy with statement shoes. Throw it on over a swimsuit or wear it out to dinner. It’s crazy versatile and the best part? It’s under $40.
Fit Notes: The reviews on the standard version of this dress are mixed, but the reviews of the plus-size version are straight 5-stars. After reading all of them, I thought I’d try it for myself and sized UP. So glad I did–my typical size 6 (a small according to the size chart) would have been way too tight and even the medium was a bit tight for my liking. But the large? Perfect.
This knit t-short dress drapes so nicely without clinging and is suuuper comfortable. I love how it skims over “problem” areas without highlighting the,m and the fabric (made of rayon and spandex) is super-soft and stretchy. I also love the little slit in the front that makes it a little different from other t-shirt dresses (and is why, in part, this dress can suddenly be ‘fancy’). It’s just such an easy dress to throw on and go….anywhere.
T-Shirt Dress Outfit Ideas: Switch Up The Shoes
So, per usual, I decided to throw a few looks together, so we can see how we like it. I’m trying this cute easy dress with different shoes, and with a few different jackets down below.
1. Go Casual With (Waterproof!) Birkenstocks
How have I never tried these before?? They. Are. Amazing. All of the comfort of regular Birkenstocks but without the break-in time, in a bunch of fun colors, and for ONE-THIRD of the price! These are like the comfort shoe version of flip-flops that have no support. AND they’re waterproof?? Sold.
2. Get Fancy With Statement Shoes
I bought these for my birthday and LOVE them. Just the right mix of sparkle and studs. The square toe means my toes are never slipping over the edge. You know I love my sparkly shoes…even with just ripped jeans and a tee. (Gah, I wish I could walk in these!!)
T-Shirt Dress Outfit Ideas: Switch Up the Jacket
And, for when I’m wearing the t-shirt dress on those chilly days and cooler nights (Yoopers, you feel me), a few jackets for styling inspo.
1. Go Casual With A Classic Denim Jacket
My favorite denim jacket. The Merly jacket from ABLE is super comfortable and soft, and with just the right amount of distressing; you guys have seen this one over and over again. I added my new favorite wedges that give me LOTS of height without too much of an angle.
2. Add A Faux Suede Bomber
This jacket is SOFT…I mean really, really soft. It’s made from the same material of this drapey jacket we all love (I wore it here — omg Ozzie was so little!), but in a fun moto silhouette. This jacket works equally as well with denim and shorts as it does with dresses…and will be a great layering piece come fall.
3. Dress It Up With An Oversized Blazer
I sized down in the blazer after reading the reviews, and it’s perfect. The black is currently sold out in size xxs-xl, but I LOVE the tan and ivory colors for spring and summer. Also, these sandals…OMG, you guys I’m stalking them in the tan color because they’re SO incredibly comfortable especially for 3″ heels! They had me at “memory foam” padding.
