I am obsessed with this outfit. I mean, even though we’re staying home so much more this year, I still want to dress up once in a while — whether it’s for a special holiday like Thanksgiving or just to give myself a break from all of the sweatpants and loungewear.
It’s nice to feel normal — like my best self — but I don’t want to sacrifice my comfort. Not this year. You all know how much I love my little sequin dresses…but 2020? Not their year.
So is there a way to dress up that’s fun and festive but still super-comfortable? Yesssss. Here’s how I’m doing it.
The Skirt That Feels Like Loungewear
Enter this sweater skirt. You guys, this skirt is insanely comfortable. It’s soft and stretchy, and it hugs your curves without being too tight or constricting. The two slits on the side help to give it some shape and movement when you walk (and make it easier to move around in). It’s casual enough to pair with a graphic tee and sneakers, but can easily be dressed up with an off the shoulder sweater and boots. It is the perfect skirt for 2020.

sweater (m) | skirt (s) | cami (34C) | boots
I love the look of a slouchy off-the-shoulder sweater with this fitted skirt. Tuck the sweater in or let it hang down, add some boots, or skip shoes altogether–this whole outfit is comfortable, so it’s ideal for special occasions spent at home. (And that stretchiness makes it perfect for Thanksgiving dinner!)
Hanro’s Allure Built-In Bra Camisole
My secret to wearing this sweater without freezing (if I wore just a bra underneath) or showing ALL the straps (if I layered a bra and a cami underneath) is this Built-In Bra Cami from Hanro. This cami has solved so many problems for me this year: from wearing off-the-shoulder sweaters without worrying about the straps showing, to donning deeper v-necks where I don’t want a tank top peeking out, or smoothing out tighter sweaters and adding a thin layer for warmth underneath short-sleeve tops or tanks. The bra fits really well — the cups are padded for some lift without being a full-on push-up, and there’s no spillage in the cups. It’s also really comfortable thanks to the smooth stretchy fabric.

Cascade Collar Double Face Wool & Cashmere Coat
If you do end up leaving the house, this is the perfect coat to wear. Aside from the fact that it’s beautiful, it’s made from wool and cashmere, so it’s super-warm and soft. It’s lightweight and less constricting than a typical top coat (there’s no lining) so it’s really comfortable–it’s the kind of coat you don’t want to take off the second you walk inside. (Check out the reviews…one of them included a picture of a woman wearing a belt over it. SO cute!)
Outfit Details
Caslon Ribbed Sweater Midi Skirt (s): This skirt is SO crazy comfortable. It’s like the skirt version of sweatpants or a comfy sweater. I tried on both a small and medium, and while they both worked, I like the more form-fitting size small.
Caslon Dolman Sweater (m, more colors here): I sized up to a medium to get that slouchy off-the-shoulder vibe and it worked perfectly. (And how pretty is that bright yellow color??) The black is currently sold out, so I rounded up a few with a similar vibe here:
Nordstrom Signature Cascade Collar Double Face Wool & Cashmere Coat (s, also in a gorgeous light blue color): This is such a beautiful coat. You can wear the collar open wide or let it cascade down on the sides.
MYA Stretch Bootie: I’ve been searching for boots exactly like these for years…I love the lower (walkable) heel and higher (stretchy) shaft of these sock boots that work with everything from dresses to jeans.
Hanro Allure Built-In Bra Cami (34C): You guys, this cami is 100% worth every penny. I have it in both the black and nude colors, and LOVE that this doubles as both a bra and cami. It’s perfect for layering under sweaters for a bit more warmth without having to add an actual tank–and while I probably wouldn’t wear it on its own to a family Thanksgiving gathering, it would be perfect for date night or a night out!
