Two Easy Dresses To Get You Back Out There

I’ve written about joggers, pajamas and loungewear more than I ever thought possible this past year. Don’t get me wrong–loungewear will always have a special place in my heart (and closet), but dressing up has always been my one true love.

I even wrote a post on how to dress up during the pandemic without sacrificing comfort (something we all clung to during coronavirus), but NOW, post-vaccine, I’m READY to get back out there. I’m ready to dress up again, to feel fancy, to get my pre-quarantine groove back. And since we’ve all become somewhat accustomed to comfort, I found two dresses that are perfect: post-pandemic dresses that are sexy, comfortable and forgiving. (And they work for both post-pandemic and post-baby pounds.)

2 Ribbed Bodycon Midi Dresses That Are Flattering AND Comfy (For Postpartum or Post-Pandemic)

I’m not sure exactly how long one can typically claim they’re postpartum, but I’m going to go ahead and say…forever? After having two babies via C-Section, there is a slight “shelf” on my lower belly that will just never go back to “normal.” (I mean, what is normal anyway, right?)

This is not a huge deal, of course, and my kids were 100% worth every single change to my body, but … it does drive me a little bit crazy. Bodycon dresses are usually not my best bets, but this? And this? Perfect for postpartum bodies. Both of these rib-knit midi dresses are just tight enough to be sexy with enough give to be flattering–and the thicker fabric is perfect for camouflaging lumps and bumps.

1. Good American Rib Knit Tie Waist Midi Dress

dress | plus size version | wedges

The genius of this dress is the tie waist. It not only cinches and highlights the waist but covers up the exact area I have a problem with (my lower belly). The material is stretchy and comfy, and the two slits on the side make it easy to move in while still giving you that slimming effect. I also love that you can wear a regular bra with it! I’m wearing a medium (2) here and it’s perfect. It also comes in taupe or black, as well as plus sizes.

The Wedges I’ll Be Wearing With This Summer Dress

When I ordered these shoes I was pretty sure they’d be uncomfortable. I mean, I used to wear nothing but super high heels and wedges, but that changed after having two kids–and even more so during the pandemic. I’m only 5’4″ though, so I’m always searching for that elusive sandal that will give me some extra height (but be comfortable) and go with all the things: dresses, shorts, jeans, skirts, flares … and these are those elusive sandals. I LOVE them, you guys. The wedge is comfortable and doesn’t feel nearly as high as they are. (And they’re perfect for those flares that are too long but that give you such a long leg look!)

dress: Good American Rib Knit Tie Waist Midi Dress – LOVE. Also in plus size and black or taupe. I went with medium (I’m usually between a small and medium) and it was perfect. Follow the size chart if you’re unsure…it worked for me!

wedges: Marc Fisher Alida Espadrille Platform Wedge – (7.5, typical size) Every year I look at the Marc Fisher wedges, and I’m so glad I bought these this year. They are a solution to so many outfits and make me tall!

2. WAYF Deena Off The Shoulder Rib Knit Midi Dress

dress | bag | shoes

I have always wanted an off-the-shoulder dress, but almost every time I try one it just falls straight down–my shoulders are size 2-4 while my booty/hips are like a 6-8, so this style just never worked for me. But with this dress the little straps keep the dress up and add a cute little detail (I love the cross in the back). The fabric is thick and stretchy, so although it’s body-skimming it doesn’t show every individual lump and bump. And, of course, it’s really comfortable.

Flirty But Walkable Shoes For Summer Dresses

I 100% bought these shoes because of the reviews…I ordered both an 8 (my typical boot size) and a 7.5 (typical sandal size). The 8s were WAY too big, but the 7.5 were perfect–so size down if you’re in between! They have a quilted footbed that makes them surprisingly comfortable, not to mention the heel that’s like a cross between a stiletto and block heel. Sexy but walkable.

dress:WAYF Deena Off the Shoulder Rib Knit Midi Dress (wearing a medium, also in ivory, light blue and pink) Super comfy, forgiving and versatile–can easily be dressed up or down.

slides: BCBGeneration Fillah Slide Sandal (in blush suede – they come in a ton of colors) Much comfier than I thought they’d be…size down if you’re in between sizes!

bag: YSL Monogram Quilted Leather Wallet on a Chain – I love this bag but this one is similar for much less $$ and I love this budget-friendly option–with a detachable phone holder and multiple colors to choose from!)

Shop Bodycon Dresses & Accessories

A huge thank you to Nordstrom & ShopStyle Collective for sponsoring this post! I’m SO ready to get back out there and these dresses and shoe combos are perfect! Abby, we always have so much fun together–love your work! And readers, thank you SO so much for your continuing support. You have no idea how much it means! ❤️

  1. Love these, especially the Good American and the wedges. A comfy dress is the best way to get used to “dressing” again. This might be a weird ask, but can you recommend a bra like what you’re wearing with it? I can’t find one low cut enough for necklines like this, and braless is not an option. It’s frustrating because a low v is my favorite neckline to wear.

  2. I was JUST thinking about nude-colored wedge sandals yesterday. I have a pair but they have seen better days. So many shades offered! Are you wearing the blush suede or the taupe? Love these!

    • I’m wearing the blush color here! I liked the slightly warmer tone… and I’ve also been wearing these lately: – they aren’t wedges but I love that they do that whole leg-lengthening thing and match everyone’s skin tone since they’re clear!

  3. These look so fabulous on you – gorgeous! I am loving your simple, sexy but in a mature way thing going on. And I don’t mean the negative “mature” that we sometimes hear. I mean “mature” as in I am a woman with stuff going on – I feel like your style has evolved to simple but sexy styles that just show authentic confidence and girl it is working!

Also, they were sold out of the black Good American dress in XS but I’ll keep trying since Nordstrom stock fluctuates day to day. I did buy the wedges because the tone-on-tone buckle is such a subtle, modern update!

  4. I echo Ann Marie. DAMN, girl! You’re killin’ it. Jaw-dropping!
Aaaand now I need to order that dress.
Thanks for the review on the wedges too—I was thinking along those lines ever since Jess’ link in the Weekly Sales Report last Friday!

  5. Hi Scotti! I ordered the Marc Fisher wedges and they just arrived and I love them! They are a smidge tight across the top of the foot. Have you worn them enough to tell me if they stretch out a bit? Thank you!

    • Hello! SO glad you love them too! Mine loosened up the first time I wore them, but just to be sure I’d wear them around the house for a bit . . . I feel like I could tell pretty quickly that they’d loosen up? When I first put them on they felt like they’d be too tight across the top but they’re good now!
