I’m a jeans and tee gal — it’s what makes me feel most like myself. I’ll often start with just those two items as a base, then add a cool jacket, sneakers (or other rad shoes), some edgy accessories and there you have it: my most-worn outfit.
I’m at the point in my life when I’m done with buying cheap basics. For trendy stuff I want to try out? Sure: buying at an affordable price point makes total sense.
But, for things I wear on repeat, over and over, I have found I’m up for investing in really well-made, well-fitting pieces. Pieces where I’m not ‘settling’. Pieces where the wash, the fit, the fabric, the color, are all exactly what I want.
High-End Outfit Basics I Love: Moussy Vintage Jeans + rag & bone Tees
So, after years of trying on many, many pairs of jeans, and after years of searching (and wearing and washing) all the t-shirts, a few favorites have emerged. And while my jean favorites have shifted over time with the trends (skinny, straight-leg, flares — just kidding I hate flares)….my current two favorites are pieces that not only stand the test of time (classics, basically), but they’re also durable, too: Moussy Vintage Odessa Wide Leg jeans and rag & bone t-shirts.

I want go-to basics I can grab any time, basics I can rely on to look and feel amazing. Not only do these basics make getting dressed in the morning easier, but they help prevent unwanted purchasing. And the cost-per-wear we talk about…eventually becomes pennies over time.
The Designer Jeans: Moussy Vintage Odessa Wide Leg
I’m the most particular person when it comes the washes of jeans, and Moussy just nails it. For some reason, Moussy washes are consistently better than the washes of other brands. The distressing is always artfully done, and the faded blue is perfection. It was these washes that originally attracted me to the Moussy brand, and now that they’ve created a non-skinny pair? I’m hooked.
The pair I’m wearing is, technically, a wide-leg style, but the exact wash is also available in a straight-leg option. If the straight-leg pair is calling your name…it’s also available in a really cool darker wash, too.
Moussy jeans (of any style) are also known for being great on the bum. And, uh…yeah. They are.

Sizing Notes: These jeans run small; size up one. The Moussy jeans featured here are rigid denim, but they arrive soft out of the box. That said, they will require some breaking in. I’m wearing a size 29, and they have relaxed perfectly with a bit of wear.
Where To Buy Moussy Jeans
Some places call these Odessa Wide Leg and a few places say Odessa Wide Straight Leg, but from what I’ve gathered, comparing leg opening measurements is that if the term “wide” is in the description, they will be the pair I have and love. Stay tuned for a comparison of the straight leg option!
The Best Elevated Cotton Tees: rag & bone
I’ve had two tees from rag & bone over the last couple of years, and they are absolutely my favorites.
While I’m still a big fan of James Perse tees, the rag & bone tees have slightly thicker fabric, better sleeves, and a better fit overall. They are definitely an investment, but they’re one of those things I grab when I don’t have the energy to think about what will look good or fit well, and they always travel with me.

My favorite thing about the cut on these tees is the sleeve shape. They are so much more flattering on me than a longer sleeve that hits mid-bicep. Those tend to look dowdy on me, but the angled cut of these from rag & bone sleeves are perfection.

Lastly, I’ve gotta mention this adorable bucket bag from Rebecca Minkoff. It hits that perfect balance of adorable + edgy, yet is really versatile and has enough room to hold what I need (which includes a full glasses case). This bag also comes in a pretty taupe suede that would be a nice soft option for spring.
