This post is for those of us that love the moto jacket…but might be feeling uninspired as to how to make it feel fresh right now. I recently scored a new moto jacket on Poshmark and realized the key is to keep it oversized.
Find an oversized leather jacket, pair it with an oversized tee and voilà! — an easy-peasy outfit update. (I’m not sure I should use such a lovely French word and “easy-peasy” in the same sentence but I digress.)
What I’m saying is, with the right jacket, this is simple.
The Oversized Leather Jacket I’m Wearing On Repeat
This moto jacket looks casual but cute with fitted jeans. Pair it all with a chunky shoe, either a platform sneaker or lug sole boot, and you’ve got a fresh and easy look (no shirt-tucking involved!). This is the leather jacket and jeans outfit formula I’m returning to again and again.

I’ve been wearing this oversized jacket + tee combo with leggings or full-length jeans too, but my fav outfit is with the Frame Jetset Mini Boot jeans (you can also see them in my travel outfit post here.) They are pull-on jeans and that’s why I love them…no digging waistband or zippers or button-fly to deal with and they have a chic almost-pant vibe.
But back to my moto jackets. I feel like it’s the same game with jean jackets right now…give me an oversized jacket or I’m moving on to a different outer layer.
Where To Find Oversized Jackets & Graphic Tees
Try your luck finding a pre-worn or vintage leather jacket on Poshmark! That’s where I found mine — I tend to LOVE the hunt. But have no fear, if you don’t love the hunt or want to be able to return it, there are some other great options out there too. I’ve shared a few below, including a faux-leather option.
Oversized Leather Jackets I’m Loving
My Free People jacket purchase was originally inspired by an oversized bomber jacket from Tibi owner/designer Amy Smilovic. She wears the heck out of her brown leather bomber over everything and I LOVE it.
Her jacket was unfortunately out of my price range and I don’t think the Rebecca Minkoff option was out yet, so I headed to Poshmark to see what I could see and found this older Free People snake moto.
Want a similar vibe but need something lighter weight? Don’t skip out on the knit alternative from Free People (I have it in black). If you want something super comfy at a reasonable price, it can’t be beat — though some colors are going quickly. The widest range of color options is at Free People but the off-olive green can be found at Nordstrom.
As for the oversized tee, I think anything you love that is as long or slightly longer than the jacket works great. I love this Dolly tee from Etsy so much. I simply sized up to a large here for an oversized fit (it does stretch with wear since it’s 100% cotton so I could have probably gone with an M…I also think it’s unisex sized?)
A few other options I like are this black Anine Bing tee, any of these vintage-inspired tees at Gap, and this oversized tee from Billabong at Nordstrom. And of course Free People also always has amazing oversized tees…like, yep, this one.

Does This Outfit Formula Work For My Fitted Moto Jackets?
Sadly, no. It doesn’t work as well with my fitted moto jacket. It’s fine (sort of) from the front…but from the back? No. I even tried a tee that wasn’t quite so long but it still just didn’t look great or feel like enough of an outfit update.
I might keep trying or I might just keep wearing my AllSaints moto jacket with other things right now, like dresses, really slouchy trousers, and giant scarves to keep it looking a little more modern. I’m not getting rid of this babe, just not grabbing for her as regularly as I used to.

If you think of new ways to make fitted moto jackets feel fresh, let me know. I’m considering trying mine over a button-down shirt with long cuffs. I think that might look fun.
Here’s to refreshing some of our favorite pieces in our closets, eh? I’ve always been such a moto jacket girl and this is giving my outfits new life for sure. I’m realizing I did the same with a jean jacket upgrade by swapping it for an oversized denim shacket recently. You can check that out in my Top Fashion Finds of 2022 post from last month.
Thanks for being here, friends, and let me know what exciting updates you’ve found recently.

Hey, Pinners…

Beautiful photos!!!!
Thank you!
Aha! I didn’t even know this is a thing? All motos are too short on me… I am excited about this one, Laura! I’m off to go click on some links! I’m wondering if the beloved James Perse knit bomber from several years ago is longer now too. crossing fingers.
OOOH great! I hope you find something you love!
Love this whole concept! Thank you for sharing it with us; love the looks and your style.
Thanks so much!
so. a couple of thoughts for (our) beloved Balfern…1. wide leg adidas (or any joggers, really…i wore mine with the vuoris throughtout a recent Tokyo trip) and scoop neck t-shirt; 2. lacy/floral-y dresses (midi-length) and literally any shoe that strikes your fancy on any day (for me the only look that didn’t work as well was with dress and birks) but it’s pretty cool with some femme-ie shoes; 3. loose denim shorts and t-shirt with a pretty scarf around the waist for a belt. (it’s also sensational with the frame jeans you refer and the free people parachute pants and a tank).
Ooh yes same on some of these ideas and great inspo on your others. Thank you for sharing! Gotta try. Have always loved a moto to make femme pieces look more balanced for my style.
